Cris Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Wanted: I am interested in acquiring at a reasonable cost the Moritz digital fuel guage cluster installed in the Mooney R Ovation as optional beginning in 1999. Specifically I am looking for one that has 89 gals or more ie 95 or 100. this may also have been in the M Any suggestions are appreciated short of contacting either Mooney or Moritz as I've been there done that. Thanks 1 Quote
John Pleisse Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 I went buy their site the other day..... I love the Moritz guages in 2000-4 long bodies. I had always hoped they would have those strip guages available for both voltages under some sort of STC. Not a chance... but when I went by their site the other day, they currently didn't offer any product similar to those strip guages. Almost all peice meal turbine stuff. How is the service history on those (I see many birds for sale with inop guages) and how is Mortiz support? Quote
KSMooniac Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 I love the look of those gauges too, but they seem to be very expensive and not exactly long-life items from anecdotal evidence I've gathered. Going for an STC'd engine monitor/replacement is probably a wiser choice these days. Quote
Cris Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 Well my experience with Moritz was reasonable I think. By that I mean I had to send back my fuel cluster which also includes the Batt/Amp guage for repair. In the prcocess I asked that the fuel indicator which read 37 gals per side for my S be reset to 45 gals per side same as the R which my Midwest Mooney 310 HP STC allows. Moritz said no way so I was dissatisfied. On the other hand they fixed the Batt/Amp guage & replaced lamps at no charge even on the fuel guage. The bill was $500 which I thought was a bit steep but they typically work on turbines so.... One thing I did find was that those lamps are not field replaceable so when they burn out it is expensive to have them replaced. Also they are running out of repair parts for some of these guages. I was "lucky" as the rep explained to me as they had the parts that I needed. Check out Moritz under one of the other threads for other opionions. I still like the units as mine work beautifully & am not ready to spend the $5000 or so for a full up set of STC'ed replacement guages. I'd just like to get the accuracy of the fuel that I now carry on my factory guage. Quote
