testwest Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 I stripped the shelf and primed it with Dupli-color self etching primer. It works great and is a little healthier to spray and more durable than zinc chromate or zinc phosphate. It is a dark green color but that does not show up well in the photo. Quote
PT20J Posted March 19, 2022 Report Posted March 19, 2022 Self etch primer is great to insure adhesion to bare aluminum. But be aware that it generally requires an intermediate coat of primer to seal the surface before applying the color top coat. Be sure to read the data sheets. Quote
testwest Posted March 19, 2022 Report Posted March 19, 2022 True for some products. But Dupli-Color self etching primer can be topcoated without an additional step. Quote
WAFI Posted August 27, 2022 Author Report Posted August 27, 2022 I just noticed my photos didn’t upload on my last update so, here you go. 3 Quote
WAFI Posted August 27, 2022 Author Report Posted August 27, 2022 Since these photos have been taken, I’ve already installed the last piece of upholstery on the door, fix the overlay on the emergency gear handle and 3D printed a wedge to mount my iPad. I’m in the process of 3D printing the plastic trim cover for the fuel selector and drain area. Also, a trim piece for the gear down indicator on the floor. 2 Quote

Can you elaborate on the wedge to mount the iPad? very nice interior! Torrey Quote

Torrey So, I printed two different triangle wedges to see witch one I like more but the idea is to lean the iPad towards the pilot side a little without blocking the RPM & MP gauges. Quote

Sorry, I haven’t had time to make the trim piece yet but I will post pics soon. Here’s a picture of the fuel selector plastic frame. Quote

Those are very nice looking pieces and I see how the angle turns the iPad toward the pilot side, but how is it all tied together and mounted to the instrument panel? You are obviously skilled in this 3d printing process while I barely understand how it works! Quote

You are obviously skilled in this 3d printing process while I barely understand how it works! For the interim “3M double stick tape” for the wedge to panel and “3M Durolock” for the iPad to wedge. If I like it then maybe I will bolt on the wedge but I plan on putting in a G3X on the pilot side and moving my AV30’s to the Co-pilot side so, I don’t want to punch hole in the panel yet. 1 Quote
