KSMooniac
I have no doubt they could duplicate just about anything, but coming up with a striking, original design is a completely different task. I *thought* I knew pretty much what I wanted, but after going through the process with the designer I ended up with something quite different, and much improved. I too started with pics and copies of other schemes I found on the web, but nothing can really match going through the iterations with a professional... it is such a subtle art to lay down a curve that is "just right" and make it look great on a Mooney. If ArtCraft has in-house design services included, then that is great, but I think we're comparing apples and oranges here. I have no doubt they're doing top-shelf work with the paint job, and in hindsight I wish I would have taken my Mooney all the way there from KS instead of going where I did... I could have taken a week's vacation while waiting on them and come out ahead of where I am today after messing with warranty work. Quote: Mitch With that said, I feel so confident with ArtCraft, that once again, if one provides a very good photo, they will get exactly what is pictured. Also, with their willingness to make the customer completely satisfied, they will make changes after the fact. I just witnessed this feature. Amazing to me! Jeev
Quote: aerobat95 Either one is a winner but I would say my favorite is the one on the left. But whichever way you go you will have a really nice looking plane. How long is it going to take the paint shop to do your Mooney?

Jeev
True Gary. But, with Jeev's close proximity to ArtCraft, we were just offering him our experience that he too could participate and enjoy the layout/colors process with them. With that said, I feel so confident with ArtCraft, that once again, if one provides a very good photo, they will get exactly what is pictured. So, I'm off to the airport to put final touches on Jolie's newly painted Mooney for our fun w/e ahead. Happy flying everyone. Have Mooney will travel.................... Saltaire
Jeev, Jet-Glo is great paint. Super durable. It’s a “pure” polyurethane and the white will go on supper glossy, no need to clear coat. If you choose the scheme with the black bottom, once again the Jet-Glo black will give you plenty of gloss without clear coat. If you decided to have some metal-flake in the stripes and “N” number, base coat/clear coat may be the way to go. Good luck!

I am debating on clear or not so if anyone wants to chime in that would be great and they include a 1 year warranty on thier work.
N1026F
Jeev, Just food for thought: I received my IFR training (the last of three instructors) from a Mooney factory test pilot, Dylan Foley. He explained to me that the factory paint process is so exact that the paint is applied by considering the unpainted weight and balance and then offsetting any off-axis balance issues so that the plane stays in trim and minimally affect useful load after the paint dries. He has a web site: foleyaero.com. I'm sure he'd be more than willing to share any of those issues with you. And yes, having this guy as an IFR instructor made ALL the difference in training; he was and is first rate. He's also an incredible person. Personally, I'd go with a real original paint scheme that's a show stopper! If you're gonna spend the money and keep the bird. Have you ever seen the thunderbird yellow Acclaim? orangemtl
A bit off topic, but: Dylan is an EXCELLENT instructor. I've worked with him as recently as May, and I cannot say enough positive. Calm, extensively experienced with Mooneys, and a heck of a nice guy, as well. Plus, he knows (from his experience w/Mooney first hand) many Mooney details that others might not. I'll fly 1000 miles from AZ to do IFR work with him in TX, once I'm ready.

N1026F
Jeev, 1YG has all the speed mods so it'll be a show stopper when you're done. What's the time and $ cost range and options (single color, two, three colors...) Regarding Dylan Foley: I'll jump to the IFR Students thread... 231Pilot
I worked with the paint designer Fantom recommended, and he is excellent. I was torn between ArtCraft and Straube when choosing a shop, but went with Straube because of the costs involved in getting to and from ArtCraft (a couple of AMUs between air fare for me and fuel costs for the Mooney) along with the per day fee after completion until the plane is picked up. I do admire ArtCraft's work, but have seen Straube's work locally and it is good too. Straube has a good reputation and is close enough to make transportation costs insignificant and warranty work very close by. The plane goes in for paint in early January. I'll post pictures when I have them.
