Paul, the Lynx uses a WiFi connection for FIS/TIS. ForeFlight supports it and GP doesn’t.

Chris, Thanks for the clarification. Being WiFi really changes things. And you're saying GP doesn't support Lynx in any capacity? Bummer! but not real surprising either.

It does, but he is connected to his iPhone as a hotspot, you can see the symbol indicating this on his screen capture. Either he has to manually select FISB or disconnect the hotspot.

Exactly. I didn’t even think about that. I will turn off the hotspot on my iPhone. Thanks

@MATTS875, based on my experience with mine this is how it works: The device wifi needs to be setup with the 510 and paired via BT to the 345 the first time. Thereafter Garmin Pilot will connect automatically to wifi for database transfer. It will give you a message on the GTN. Once transfer is finished it will automatically drop the wifi and switch to the BT and 345 for ADS-B weather and traffic.

That’s the way mine is setup also.  My iPad connects to the flight stream 510 and transfers the flight plan to the 750. I get weather on the gtn but not on the iPad , so I’m thinking it’s not dropping the WiFi .

Yeah, nothing from the Lynx functions with Garmin Pilot. Interestingly, my FltPln Go is supported. Perhaps at some time in the future the features will make its way to GP.

And as I mentioned above, it really doesn’t matter. I get weather and traffic both on the Lynx and the Aspens. And traffic shows up on the GTN (yippee ).

There’s a problem if you are running back level software, FAA added new weather products a while ago, I had to update my FS, GDL88, and GTN software to get it to talk to my GP.

I did not know that the FS 510 had to be updated.

Yep, like everything else - there is software on it. The current version is  2.6 for the FS-510 - bring up your Connext menu on your GTN to see what you have.

The FS update was included in the GTN 6.70 update end of Feb 2020.

Does a Garmin dealer do this and if so how much is it or do I update it from a card reader?

The FS update is in conjunction with the Navigator update - such as the GTNs ver 6.7 I cited above. Only Garmin dealers can download the software and run the updater s/w. The patch is free but you'll probably pay for shop labor to do the update. After the update, typically your navigator AFMS need to be refreshed in your POH with the newer version as well. That is something you can download and do yourself.

Sometimes it can be free because it’s a required update due to some severe problem, in that case big G pays the labor cost, but not in this case. Shouldn’t be much more than 1/2 hour.

Update on Garmin Pilot. I flew an hour trip today and WiFi the iPad to the flight stream 510 and transferred the flight plan to the gtn 750. Into the flight I made sure I was on FIS-B and I no longer had gps or it said internet connection. This is strange as this has just recently started doing this. I could not even use Garmin Pilot on my iPhone while flying.  It loses gps. The airplane no longer shows up on the screen. Kind of out of solutions at this point. Any other ideas you all can offer would be great. Thanks in advance

iPhone has its own gps, no connection needed?
You say wifi, but I think FS 510 connection is via Bluetooth? You should be able to turn WiFi off in settings and still connect to the 510?
I have had issues with my FS210 where I lose BT and can’t reconnect, but Aera is still connected. When I try to recreate later it works.

I hope what you’re experiencing isn’t like the old days of GP. Back then, GP once in a while needed a damn good thrashing by uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Bit of a pain but when weirdness starts showing up, I found a fresh load fixed it. I would delete the app, close all other apps and do a full shutdown of the iPhone and iPad before reloading it.
