Jpaultaboda Posted May 28, 2020 Report Posted May 28, 2020 Hello all I’m attempting to keep up with fuel mx on my 77 J model. Per my serial number I’m guessing I have a older style gascolator. I’m looking to purchase the packing kit for the re install but didn’t see p/n for kit in the IPC. Secondly, I have GAMI fuel injectors and I plan on removing them and using the hoppes #9 soak method per Lycoming & GAMI. The only thing I’m not sure about is do I need to order Lycoming packings or specific GAMI packings.
StevenL757 Posted May 28, 2020 Report Posted May 28, 2020 (edited) Unless you’re an A&P, removing and replacing injectors is not something you’re allowed to do under CFR 43. If however you’re doing an owner-assisted annual, this can be allowed at your A&P’s discretion, and only under his direct supervision. As far as injector parts, you would order the Gami-specific o-rings etc. I’m in TX at annual presently with my 9th owner-assisted annual and went through this exercise yesterday on stock CMI injectors. jetdriven Posted May 28, 2020 Report Posted May 28, 2020 Lycoming IO360 injectors have no o-ring. Also, there is an ad 15-19-07 associated with the fuel injectors, lines, and clamps. Be sure this is complied with after any work on those is done. 1
PT20J Posted May 28, 2020 Report Posted May 28, 2020 Probably everyone knows this, but the AD Byron referenced has to be complied with every time maintenance is performed on the injectors or lines and also every 110 hrs of operation. It has to be signed off by an A&P since required inspections are “maintenance” and not “preventive maintenance”. Skip
carusoam Posted May 29, 2020 Report Posted May 29, 2020 Gascolator cleaning has become interesting around here lately... Keep your eyes open for any failed seals at the screen... PP thoughts only. Not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-
