Right on Byron!  I had to go bright.  I like the way you have the shields painted.


I will take some pics of the cowl mod when I pick my plane up.  They did say that it was pretty simple to install and apparently the cowling is VERY tight now.  He didn't take any pictures of that install.

We observed a ~40 degree reduction but our old seals were totally shot, the rear top seal was blown out backwards.  The seals on the bottom had staples in it from 1977.


Since then, we rigged the cowl flaps to close completely, and brought the timing back up to 25 degrees, so now the CHT is about 20 degrees warmer than after the seal change, but still totally manageable.  We can still rig the cowl flpas open 1/4" per the Mooney Service manual if needed.

I just found this unapproved parts notification from the FAA. Does anybody know if it is this still valid?


How can a legal replacement with silicon rubber seals be done?
