Earlier this week a Texas family of 7 was lost when their PA32-260 crashed close to Kingston Ontario on their way to Quebec City.  A tragic loss with 3 children on board.

The investigation is underway.

I saw that in the news since it’s rather close to where I live too.  Was that Wednesday mid day?  That was the day I posted on the 2019 flights how I cancelled my flight for weather reasons and so weather wise I’m like 75 miles upstream of that weather was worsening already in Kingston.  By 3pm there was even thunder snow reported on the meters for Ogdensburg - Kogs - which is about the between here and Ogdensburg.

do you know what time.

a family of 7 is just horrible to loose in a crash.

Icing?

There seemed to be wide spread icing and deteriorating where I was which one reason I did not launch despite tks.  My comments on the weather are on that 2019 thread I wrote Wednesday.

Thunder Snow.  Experienced it one time.   It was my third time to snowboard.   We were on the lift when it started.  The instructor started talking I just strapped in and went.  I did my best run evar on a board.   rode the whole way down the mountain without stopping.   Exposed peaks and lighting is something I am very afraid of.

I would be too if I were an exceptionally tall Yetti.

I was just reading this article and there is video.  He looks like a very happy spirited person I bet I would have really liked.  https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/otabek-oblokulov-kingston-crash-1.5377787

I just found just now it was ~5pm as did you.  In that article above a lady who heard the actual crash she was that close mentioned it sounded like the thunder she was hearing just a bit earlier, the same thunder snow conditions I was reporting was in Ogdensberg at the time and also right here 75 mi to the North East in KPTD.  Those were some crummy conditions Wednesday night.  Icing and thunder all in the same ugly clouds.

Here in KPTD the ceilings were low but we are east of the st Lawrence seaway and sometimes immediately west (upstream of the moving air)  of that big river the clouds can be a bit higher so plausibly one could scud rud as the terrain on that side is very flat - not for me - but it could be done.

I won't speculate but I do feel as a weather witness I had something relevant to say since I was proudly reporting my cancelled flight for noonish also on Wednesday.

The flight which I made on Friday (yesterday) and returned home today.  In gorgeous weather most of the way other than a IFR departure (MVFR) yesterday quickly popping to on top,  Severe clear on arrival there and severe clear return home today.  I think of that old saying that the weather is always beautiful for the search and rescue.

(Side story - I had wanted to do the cancelled flight then on Thursday, but in leaving my hangar on Wednesday disappointed in cancelling my flight - I had left my hangar keys in the hangar!  I have multiple airplane keys but only one hangar key - so being Thanksgiving in a small town - no way to get the master key from the manager til Friday..oh well..I caught up with my family eventually).

Sadly he flew right past the Search and Rescue airbase later looked for him, this one and one other close to him would have worked and he almost made Kingston by only a few miles.

Its very sad.
