pilot716 Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 The auto trim has not been working properly. once set to ALT mode the A/P holds for about 3-4 minutes then of course it wants to trim..the trim light and alarm automatically come on and I never can feel the trim wheel move or try to move. the manual rocker trim switch works fine and disables the A/P when touched. the A/P functions all work fine except that part. We had the pitch servo replaced and when ground tested it worked fine...today it is doing the same thing again, any thoughts, guesses, suggestions? has this happened to anyone else? I actually flew an ILS down to minimums on A/P APR mode and it works great but the alarm ringing for 45 min or more is quite annoying... Quote
Royski Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 I had some KFC-150 problems (pitch issues) caused by a faulty attitude indicator - might be worth investigating. Quote
Cris Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 It is well known that the KFC 150 as opposed to the KFC200 or even the KFC 225 has issues with the sensors that determine its health. The autopilot itself is terrific but it can be a maintenance nightmare if you have the sensor issses. These sensors frequently declare a fault when there is none. Assuming that the unit seems to work except for the constant alarm I'd check the trim warning sensor circuit before replacing expensive parts like servos. This may be a call to autopilots central for their thoughts. Quote
David Mazer Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 As silly as this sounds, I was having a problem with my A/P kicking off because the electric trim rocker switch was accidentally getting turned off when I pushed the throttle forward and hit it with my knuckle. It took me a while, too long, to realize the problem was me! Quote
carusoam Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 Mazerbase, You have brought up an interesting point. The AP (mine is the KAP150) mounted above the engine controls leaves me wondering.... This is an excellent "heads-up" for those new to this AP arrangement. Power settings and more often mixture adjustments (more time of the hand on the control). A slight bump in the road, knuckle brushes the AP buttons and then the AP is magically in a different mode without you knowing it. It is near impossible to set LOP ops in turbulence without bumping the AP buttons. lean, look out window(vmc), check jpi and FF, check AP...repeat.... Creeping..... Best regards, -a- Quote
