flyboy0681 Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 After two and a half weeks in the shop, here are the results... The only issue is the angled cradle for the Aera 510. It's blocking the right panel and the KX-165 under it. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Very nice. Let us know how it is flying behind it! Quote
Piloto Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Looks nice but why would you need the Aera in addition to the GTN? José Quote
LFOD Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 Probably for a more economic weather solution. Looking forward to hearing some pireps. Quote

flyboy0681 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Report Posted April 27, 2011 Gary hit the nail on the head, backup system with integrated Wx. We've been looking at the GDL-69A and just can't justify the $5k price - or even the $3k that they are going for on eBay. Besides, the net cost for the 510 after trading in the 496 was $100, so why not? Quote

flyboy0681 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Report Posted April 27, 2011 I've been called a lot of things in my day but PIA is not one of them. My trips there weren't to check up on them but to deliver stuff such as the ATD-300 unit and then another trip for the antenna then another for equipment that was being traded in. Quote
Magnum Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Does the ATD-300 show the traffic on the Aera? They wanted to implement that feature some time ago, is it working now? Quote
flyboy0681 Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 As luck would have it, Monroy is located in my town and I have met with Jose Monroy on a few occasions. His new units have the ARINC 429 chip in them but the software is not yet ready. Our shop wired the ATD into the GTN750, so once the software is ready traffic will display on the new unit. I don't believe (although I could be wrong) that the Aera has an ARINC 429 input. Quote
fantom Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 If you have WX on the Aera, you can't also show traffic. Only one input port. Quote
pilot716 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Looks great Mike! Send a Pirep when your ready.. Quote
DaV8or Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Oooo... Super nice! Love to hear the PIREP. On an unrelated note, where did you get your yoke clip? It looks really solid like it's clamped on and I would like something like that. Quote
flyboy0681 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Report Posted April 29, 2011 I won't be climbing into the left seat until late next week. The initial reports from my partner is that although the unit is intuitive for the most part, there's still a lot to learn and studying the manual is essential. Quote
PTK Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Looks awesome. Hope you really enjoy it!! If you don't mind me asking what did it cost just for the 750 installed? Quote
