2jetman Posted September 16, 2017 Report Posted September 16, 2017 Does anyone know if there is a STC for higher HP engine conversion for the TLS Bravo? Quote
carusoam Posted September 16, 2017 Report Posted September 16, 2017 Would you be interested in starting the STC process and doing a FWF swap? Or Swapping your plane for a TN'd Acclaim...? Acclaims are available in 280 and 310hp versions... You also get a wider operational LOP window with that... Research this idea.... The TSIOL540 does have higher outputs with liquid cooling , 350hp in the liquid Rocket...? (Fuzzy old memory) Conflicting info... http://www.usaaircraft.com/aircraft-for-sale/10/1988-mooney-m20l-liquid-rocket has a Continental IO550 in it... in this example of an M20L. Saturday afternoon, PP ideas, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- Quote
2jetman Posted September 17, 2017 Author Report Posted September 17, 2017 Unfortunately I don't have the smarts or time to go through the STC process but I would like to hang a bigger engine on the front of the ole bird. What Acclaim do you have? Quote
carusoam Posted September 17, 2017 Report Posted September 17, 2017 I have the O... IO 550(n) Looked into mounting the Acclaim engine when I did the Factory reman... The additional hardware isn't that terrible for what you get performance wise. Unfortunately, the Acclaim and The O are different airframes. So an STC would be needed... PP thoughts only... not a mechanic. Best regards, -a- Quote
stevesm20b Posted March 24, 2018 Report Posted March 24, 2018 I was wondering if you couldn't put the lycoming 350 horsepower TIO 540 out of a piper Navajo in the Bravo. Quote
Bravoman Posted March 24, 2018 Report Posted March 24, 2018 I’m no expert but probably theoretically possible but would never be legal. Quote

My mechanic was just commenting on an early magazine article when the Mooney TLS came out. It incorrectly stated that the TLS had a de-rated version of the 350hp TIO-540 engine that was in the Navajo. My mechanic was Mooneys Chief IA back in those times and he said that about the only parts shared between those two engines were maybe the spark plugs. Quote
FoxMike Posted March 24, 2018 Report Posted March 24, 2018 Unfortunately no engine options are available. I would like something with better fuel specifics but I doubt their is enough market for anyone to go to the brain damage of doing an STC. Quote
