I'm looking for a pre-purchase inspection on a modified 231 in the Jacksonville, FL / Gainesville area. Does anyone know of a good mechanic who is either in the area or willing to travel for a reasonable price?

Also, does anyone have a good checklist of items to check on a 231 during a pre-buy?

I may also need some transition training. Does anyone know of a good instructor in the area?

Thank you,

John

Hi John,

Not sure who to suggest for the PPI, but search Mike Elliot on this site for flight training.

I don't know anyone in the Jacksonville area, but Aircraft Engineering in Bartow (KBOW) did all the work on my plane for the prior owner and they did an excellent job. They're not an MSC but have a great reputation overall.

John,

I had my PPI done by Chris Reilly of Sanford-Aircraft based at KSFB. He maintains several Mooneys and a few for some guys on here. He has an RV and will most likely fly to you as he has flown to me in Ocala. Chris always treats me fair and is one of the most thorough mechanics I have worked with.

For transition training, Mike Elliott (Master CFII) is excellent. He posts frequently on Mooneyspace. His email is mike@aviating.com.

We've met Chris Reilly and he is very conscientious and fair.

Good luck with your purchase!

If I recall, Bill Turley was the chief mechanic's name. He is an unquestioned Comanche expert. However, you pay for that knowledge. I've been told that he is similarly capable on other airframes.

I have a Mooney-familiar AI doing my annual in Lake City. I do not know if he's super proficient with Mooneys (he has done annuals on some) but I can give you his information if you'd like. He does a smashing job and is doing a spinner-to-tailcone refurbishment of my -C.

Likewise, I might be able to go put eyes on and get pictures if its somewhat local to me. I am of course no help with mechanics, but I can take plenty of pictures.

Thanks for the offer! Seems like there are a lot of active people on here.

With the help of this site, I found a mechanic last night. I'm going to give the cfi's listed above a call today to see if it'd be possible to line one of them up.

Thanks for the help folks!
