....In the end I chose the MVP-50. I ordered it and got a little show special price. It was actually a tough choice. I really liked the remote tach and MP display that came with the 930, but in the end it came down to user the interface for me. The MVP-50 felt more intuitive too me and I figured that if a guy that works for JPI for a long time and demos the unit all day long at trade shows can get lost, I don't stand a chance bouncing around in the cockpit. I also liked the vacuum option as well. Hopefully I chose well, only time will tell...

Thank you for your order Sir,

I will be handling the fulfillment of this system and have received the order from the distributor.  When you complete the range marking worksheets please email or fax them to support@buy-ei.com or 541-318-7575.  Please let me know if you have questions or if I may be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Matt

Dave,

Its been two years since you wrote up your review and installed your MVP-50. Are you still happy with that decsion? How has your experience been with your unit?

Has anyone looked at the EDM900? In portrait orientation it will fit better right in front of me and in my scan where primary instruments belong. One thing I don't like and JPI needs to correct is the plastic display! They can easily put a glass display in the unit like the 930 has.

Over all, yes, I have been pleased with my MVP-50. It has not been 100% without issue though. I have had two issues, one being a problem with a CHT reading. There seems to be an issue with the wiring, or connections. It will at times erratically read from zero to normal temperature, triggering a warning. I tested the probe by switching the #3 cylinder (the problem one) wire with the cylinder next to it. This resulted in no problems... for a while. The problem returned and still on number three. This means the problem is not the probe, but somewhere beyond the connector, back to the unit itself. More testing is needed on this one.

The other problem has been erratic fuel flow indications. Jumping as much as a half a gallon an hour up and down. GAMI test is impossible. However, it has recently been discovered that there has been a serious problem with my fuel system. Supposedly, everything has been repaired with it (many $$$ later) and I may go to pick up my plane Friday after being down a month. :( I will be very interested to see if my fuel flow issue will be resolved.

I will say this, it is a very easy unit to use and understand. I do much prefer it over the original gauges. I was concerned about having the tach and MP display so far from the pilot, but in reality it has been a non issue for me. In fact, with my recent problem, the MVP-50 was helpful in pointing us in the right area to look for my engine running crappy when I had to leave my plane in Red Bluff. Without it, I would have had to spend more time figuring out which cylinder was causing a problem.

By the way, I have called EI several times on the phone with questions and I can say, top notch customer service.

I have had some issues, but overall, I would still recommend this device to others. It really is pretty cool.
