I have a 1986 m20k going into pre buy inspection and would like use a checklist to help make sure the mechanic checks all the important items.  I have used this mechanic for years and he has been great but has only done a few annuals on mooneys so he has some experience but by no means a mooney expert. thanks,

A PPI is a one time expense to protect your wallet...

It makes a lot of sense/cents to take it to a person that has seen all those trouble spots before.

My thoughts of buying a 100 AMU device without a warranty...

Antares' example above is possible for any piece of machinery, not just aviation...

Best regards,

+1 on Antares example

Spend the cents and save the dollars in the long run.

I have had several failed prebuys on Mooneys

Some of the stuff that was identified, like repairs that were not done consistent with Mooney data, would not have been obvious to someone who was not intimately familiar with Mooneys.

Agree with the others that you would be well served by having someone who has spent their life inside and underneath Mooneys do your prebuy, even if it is not convenient.

Good luck and please keep us posted

There is a nice check list on the Lake Aero Styling (LASAR) web site.  It is no substitute for an experienced Mooney inspection.  I can only say "if I knew then what I know now". Good luck and welcome. :)

Ended up finding a mechanic that worked for mooney shop for years and he helped my mechanic do the pre buy. Good news is that they both thought the plane was in great shape. Only a few minor Issues that are getting addressed, can't wait to start taking some cross country flights soon.
