cliffy Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Yes I know it's old and not supported but there has to be one shop out there that works on them OR maybe I could find a non-working unit and scavenge what I need from it. Mine is stuck in the night mode for screen brightness. I have the repair manual and I am conversant with electronics. Swapping boards (which is all they ever did) is not an issue. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks Quote
Bob_Belville Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Where are you Cliffy? Avionics shops may have something laying around. When I redid my panel I sold one on EBAY for $1050. You might try there. Bennett gets $1900 but are showing out of stock. Quote
BobAustin Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Try Bevan-Ravell at 316-946-4870 they do many avionics repairs and sell items too. I am buying a used KX-165 to replace my unrepairable one. Quote
Andy95W Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Cliffy- did you ever get your 155TSO repaired? I am considering installing a GPS in my '64 C, which currently has nothing, and I really can't justify a GNS-430W based on the type of flying I do. Based on your airplane, do you think the 155TSO a worthwhile addition or is it just too old? Quote

It certainly was better than no GPS and legal for enroute IFR. Quote

The thing about IFR certified is that it must be installed and legal for approaches, per se'. Also a current database or the waypoints individually checked before using for navigation. Sucks because my kln89b and garmin Aera 500 are pretty precise, heck, one even steers the autopilot but since no annunciators, no dice. Advisory use only. Advisory will get me to an intersection 500 miles away, though. Cliffs, see if you can figure out what the photocell sensor is, and change that. KX-155 kings have that go bad too. Quote
cliffy Posted November 5, 2015 Author Report Posted November 5, 2015 Reviving an old thread just to close it out. I found good deal on another 155TSo and put it in. Will look at the photosensor on the other one also. Quote
