Here's a pirep for the other CFIs here...

I just finished up my umpteenth American Flyer on-line FIRC. They've made a lot of changes over the years and this go around was about as easy as it could be. Long gone is the requirement to spend 16 hours trudging through the course materials. You can go as fast or slow as you want. I found the information and videos quite good actually - much improved from the past. All in all, this course has to be about the biggest bargain out there and I see that they've dropped the price to $75 for lifetime renewals. Oh well, I'm good for another 2 years.  :)

Good to hear, I'm due again in a few months, and have been using American flyers for a while. Nice to know it isn't quite so painful this time around!

Good to hear about their improvement. I've never used them yet because of past reviews that amount to in a word - painful. Last one I did was with the new Kings course. I found them to be leaps and bounds better than any I've done previously and they handle all the paperwork seemlessly online. I'll probably use them again next time.

The last one I did a year ago was excellent! Quick and easy. I've used American Flyers for years to fulfill the renewal requirement.

However, I do not exercise my CFI priveleges. I only want/need to keep it from lapsing. For me, American Flyers is perfect. Were I a practicing CFI, I don't think it is as beneficial as being in a classroom with other CFI's where discussion amongst "those in the trenches" takes place.

Thanks, Ward. I used to do the AOPA weekend classes, then the King Schools online course (which is pretty good). In 2016 I might do the AF course for the lifetime renewals.

You're not alone... I'm willing to bet that 1/2 to 3/4 of the online FIRC completions are "inactive" CFI/CFII's that are keeping "current" in case of a rainy day!
