I watched it and I registered on the site.  It will be interesting to see what it develops into.  Looks like a nice weather presentation, but at this point has no flight planning capability.  That means using either DUAT, DUATS, or FltPlan.com to do the flight planning (route, times, fuel, log, etc) and then needing to log into LM if you want to use it to get a final check on the weather and file.  Not too convenient at this point but definitely worth watching.

I played with it a little.  At the moment, I'll probably continue to file through aopa flyq.  Then I'll call in for a record of the flight briefing.  --I don't understand why there was no translate button on the weather.   The cryptic encoding is just an opportunity to miss something important.

I assume you are talking about the LM site.  On a few (but not all) of the weather screens there is a 'plain text' checkbox that makes it more readable.

What does it have that DUATS or fltplan don't?

Can I start by saying no advertisements on every page in your face?  Referring to fltplan.com

For Filing Flight plans:

Anytime you file a IFR or VFR flight plan and you have to edit a plan filed through DUATS or fltplan.com, don't call AFSS.  They are a competitor and do not send any information to Lockheed.  You are then on your own and have to file/edit through those vendors.  If it is under 30 minutes to filed time of departure, it's too late for them to do anything and it's already sent to the center computer.  They can't do anything.  If you call Lockheed, they have no information that you filed through the other vendors and they have to ask you background information for you to fix anything.  If you had filed through Lockheed online, it is then in the computer system history that a specialist can pull up to ease the information pull from you.

Anytime you file VFR, Lockheed does get partial data, but does not get pilots name or phone number to call for search and rescue and it does add time to the search by having to contact duats or fltplan to ask for the information.

For Briefings:

Pilot portal gives a great textual AND graphical weather report translated in plain language or in its original form

Downsides for now:

Pilot portal does not plan your flight time figured for wind right now unfortunately.  I still use flight aware for my ovation for now.

Pilot Profiles:

With or without pilot portal, you can set up a pilot profile.  It's a system that allows Lockheed to link your caller id to up to 10 tail numbers and your name.  It saves tail numbers and aircraft data making it easy to call in and file online or over the phone.  With the portal, you can quickly edit aircraft information saved to your profile or even save routes.

These are just the ones that come to mind.
