An HSI and autopilot go together, I know it's not necessary but the real ease of flying with HSI/Autopilot is just awesome. I never had one before this airplane and it took me a while to get used to it (about 10 -30 seconds !!).

It wasn't until I got an HSI that I knew I was working a lot harder than I needed to be... At least the ADF is gone...!!

Check out M20C N9237V at All American Aircraft in San Antonio.  Straight down the line Mooney resellers and at least two MSCs within a reasonable radius for a pre buy that can be negotiated into a fresh annual.  Get started right.

Here's the first draft of the sorted list.  It's subject to change and I'm posting here asking for comments and advice.  The budget will be $50K.  I'm interested in how far down the list or how many items on the list would fit into that budget.

$50K will get you a pretty nice plane.  GPSS to link the GPS to the AP would be icing on the cake.  Everyone will also tell you to budget 20% of plane costs for incidentals over the next year.  You hate to have a grounded plane b/c your budget dried up.

Are all HSI's Slaved ? Mine is slaved to a sensor out in the wing. Are there HSIs that are not slaved and should be adjusted like a vacuum operated DG ?

Not all HSI's are slaved. Century has a model that you need to adjust like a DG. It is still a great improvement over the DG, however.

They are from what I am aware of. The King series I believe uses a magnetic flux detector like a KX-112. Aspen uses combination GPS - magnetic antenna combination. Sent using Tapatalk

My Aspen PFD includes the equivalent of a slaved DG and the old Narco 100 I removed was slaved with a toggle switch to turn slaving on/off. The flux detector (pic) was mounted out in the wing.

Bob is your Aspen antenna mounted behind the rear baggage door? This is what my dual antenna setup looks like.

B 26, I don't have an airplane to look at the moment frown but to the antenna is similar to yours except on the center line and right in front of the dorsal fin.
