SkyPilot Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 I've been thinking of economical ways to lighten up the airplane and hopefully get more speed. I've pulled out the old ADF including the wire clothesline antennae. I removed an old Narco radio and I even put in a Skytec starter. Total weight loss = 7 pounds.Total cost including new radios = $12,000. So last month, I was sick with an amoebic parasite. I felt terrible. My doctor successfully treated me thank goodness. I researched the causes and was grossed out. I'm planning to get an MRI yet to be sure the shapeless fiend has not nested in my brain. But I work in the jungle of Borneo so I don't always have a choice of what to eat. This month, I'm feeling good and have hit the diet and exercise program not hard but steady. I weighed 240 pounds when i got here. So far I've lost 13 pounds and it's still dropping. I'm feeling pretty darn good lately and that elusive 6-pack is only a couple of inches down there.. Not only is my weight loss nearly free (I'm using a relatively tame dietary supplement) but it has the advantage of reducing exposure to amoebas (I skip supper), lowering my blood pressure, and moving my center of gravity while flying back just a little to the good. Total cost = $79 (supplement) I really need to get down to 200 pounds. Not only will that increase my feeling of wellness, but it will decrease my gross weight the cheapest way possible. I'll be buying a treadmill when I get home in February Paul K 1 Quote
MHemperly Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 Exercise is a must in my life, great job man! and agree, best way gain useful load! not only that, you will lengthen your life so you can continue to enjoy flying! fly safe have fun! mike Quote
Ned Gravel Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 Paul: I am with you on this. About the same conditions (weight-wise) as you, but without the parasite. I also pulled an old Bendix T12C (with the long wire antennae) for a KR-87 and changed out the old generator and starter for the Plane Power conversion for charging and the 149 NL SkyTec starter. Total savings there was about 13 lbs all up (but $9,000 in cost). My overseas work is in Bangladesh (and my aircraft is Canadian registered as well). You story motivates me. Quote
kris_adams Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 Parasite sounds kind of scary. Glad it worked out for you! Quote
SkyPilot Posted January 11, 2014 Author Report Posted January 11, 2014 I've heard that before. I think they were talking about the co-pilot.. Quote
rakesb Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 Congratulations, Paul! Hope all stays on track with your recovery, diet, and exercise. My '66 M20C is missing its ADF antenna. Did you hold on to your ADF antenna? Would you be willing to part with it? Thank you, Bobby (573) 337-3447 Quote
SkyPilot Posted January 11, 2014 Author Report Posted January 11, 2014 I kept the ADF but if you are talking about the wire sense antennae, I am almost sure I threw it out. I didn't think anybody would ever want another one, despite how well it works. I'll check into it but don't get your hope up. Quote
HRM Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 Jeez...where can I get one or two of those amoebas? I could definitely stand to drop some weight. Quote
garytex Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I got mine in Mexico, had it for seven years. Killed it with Flagyl. Quote
kmyfm20s Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 Perfect if I loose 375lbs then I could justify an Acclaim will fulfill my mission profile. The problem is I weigh 230:( Quote
SkyPilot Posted January 14, 2014 Author Report Posted January 14, 2014 I got mine in Mexico, had it for seven years. Killed it with Flagyl. Yeah that's what got mine. It's easy to catch things here in Borneo. I walk around with Hand Sanitizer in my pocket. Where I'm at, Malaria is a concern. One of our RIg crew just got hemorrhagic Dengue fever and had to be hospitalized. He made it. I just watched a completely stupid episode of "Naked and Afraid" filmed here in Borneo. Ha! Last thing I'd be doing. Hopefully the giant woman owns a Mooney, she lost 30 lbs.. Quote
Marauder Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I'm going to lose 200 pounds next year when my son goes to college! I think I can actually then safely go up a pants size... Sent from my overpriced iPad using Tapatalk Quote
