  1. Complete Brittain B5 system. These are considered approach approved. STC is most likely available from Brittain. They have been quite generous with this in the recent past. Includes items in the picture plus the altitude hold chamber. I am told it was all working when removed for upgrade (came from a customers aircraft, but not removed by me). Servos are leak free. Gyro spins up on bench. Altitude hold works on bench. Note that it does not include the altitude hold servos. I purchased this system just for those. I might be convinced to include them, but it would be extra since it is from my critical spares pool. Feel free to contact me for details if you are interested in buying. $1500 or best reasonable offer. Willing to split up as follows: Rudder or aileron servos: $125 each SOLD Matched dynertial and altitude hold: $700 Turn coordinator: $300 B5 head with working trim indicator, power supply and DG coupler: $350
  2. Hi. I'm working on my 1967 Brittain TC100 turn coordinator wing leveller. It works on vacuum but not electric and I've narrowed the problem to the LC filter in the remote power supply. Does anyone have the manual that might spec out this component? It's about the size of an AA battery. The gyro spins up when I bypass this filter so... But I'm thinking it suppresses the high frequency noise created by the power supply.
  3. I know nothing about Brittain autopilot but a friend has these parts for sale.
  4. The original Brittain PC (back before PC meant "politically correct") was installed as a no-nonsense, basic autopilot. Years later, it's still going. When it does stop working, the fix is usually simple and cheap and Cecilia at Britain is very generous with her support. My PC had begun needing more and more right wing down correction, so I figured there was a leak.....usually due to a leak around the rubber boot. I re-taped the boot, but it didn't correct the problem. Finally, I removed the entire servo (you don't have to have monkey arms, but it helps if you do) and discovered the servo was leaking but from the center, not the boot. I asked Cecilia she advised: "The sealant used is commonly known as “Perm-e-Tex” but its proper name is “aviation form-a-gasket”. You can generally find it at one or more of the national retail auto part stores." Now that is a cheap fix! Try fixing your King, or S-tec autopilot with Permatex.

  6. I’ve been a big fan of of the PC with Accu-Trak and AccuFlite, but lately have been tempted by one of the new autopilots coming to market. Both, the Accu-Trak and Accu-Flite just seemed a little sloppy in holding headings and track. I convinced myself that this is the way it always was. After annual, where I did the yoke shaft AD, it seemed a little worse. This past week, the system seemed exceptionally lazy for much of the flight, at times not even leveling the wings. This weekend I removed and cleaned the vacuum pilot valve....no real findings there. I started tracing things back, applying light vacuum to look for leaks and found the yoke disengage line was leaky. Pulling the yoke cover off, first thing I noticed was I had put the line on the wrong tube, it belongs on the innermost tube, however, I still had a leak. Focusing on the button, a visual inspection at the o rings revealed no obvious issues, however putting the button into the yoke revealed that the large (1/4”I’d x 1/16”) o ring was loose in the hole. Replaced it with a new one and it sealed up nicely. Test flight today in bumpy conditions and what a surprise. The system worked fantastic, has not performed this well in years...if ever. Instant response in wing level mode and held heading and track perfectly. It seems that a partial leak in the yoke button will allow the shuttle in the pilot valve to move part way....allowing some semblance of functionality, but not optimal functionality. In summary, sloppy wing leveler, check the o rings on the button. As a side note, in another thread I suggested removing the button if you want to disable the wing leveler for training or other reasons. Turns out, this likely wears the o ring in question, causing this issue. Otherwise this o ring remains static. Hope this saves someone a few $$.

  8. Hi everyone. Does anyone have an owners / users manual for a Brittain Accu-Trac system? I have searched online and cannot seem to locate anything for them as they have also shut down their company. My plane is a 67 M 20 F with a single axis and PC system. I'd like to review and learn more about using the system to its fullest potential. Thanks, Michael
  9. Hello everyone, Cecilia Henderson again. First let me say thank you for the outpouring of condolences we have received from all of you. We miss Jerry very much and your kind words soothe our otherwise miserable souls. Now for an update. There is a lot of interest in purchasing our intellectual properties which leaves me very optimistic that Brittain will live on in some form or fashion long after the "Walters" have left the building. Doing all I can from here to insure a quality buy and ongoing support for the Brittain product line. We have put together a prospectus and are entertaining all offers over $40,000.00 for the next few weeks then we will make a determination of which deal is the best fit for all involved. If you are interested in purchasing a small autopilot company give me a call or drop me an email. We are also selling our machine/metal shop separately from the IP. Meanwhile we are in full liquidation mode as our property is leased and we must vacate the building by April 1st. We have about 60 seals for the Mooney aileron and rudder servo assemblies which we are liquidating as "seal kits". Many of you remember a time when all Brittain offered was a seal kit that allowed you to repair your own servos. Although the FAA frowns on this approach our situation has obviously changed so get them while they are available. Each "kit" comes with a seal, safety strap, O-ring and new compression nut. Each will also come with a four page specification on how to re-assembly the unit. We are asking $100.00 each for these kits, credit card or Paypal only. Please do not try to change out your seals while the servo is still installed in the airframe. Proper removal of the servo followed by re-build and re-installation is recommended for best results. We also have a few "button valves" (on/off yoke valves) and pilot valves in repaired state which we are discounting and selling "as removed" (with no maintenance release) and if you already have an Accu-Trak system (i.e. if you already have a servo control valve P/N 20464-200) and are interested in adding heading command (B-12 Accu-Flite) we have one remaining system, less the DG, in new production (DG Adaptor, Accu-Flite on/off switch and cable, installation manuals, flight manuals and STC included. G502A directional gyro not included). Sorry fellas but we sold out of the step servo seal so they are not currently available. All hope is not lost though as the tooling has been secured and new ownership can bring this repair line back up within a matter of weeks upon close of a deal, so once again, please be patient with us. Thanks again for all the kind words and the endless support the Mooney community provides us.   10. Hello All - My partner and I purchased our 1968 M20F back in June of this year and the prior owner indicated that the retractable step servo boot had been patched but was in rough shape. He also conveyed that he had been placed on Brittain's backorder list (more than a year ago) for the servo boots for when they started making them again, but he and others indicated it could be quite a while. We recently received communication from Brittain that they were producing and shipping the new parts now and asking if we were still interested. I was wondering if anyone has already recieved their new servo boot and had any reviews on them. Apparently Brittain is insisting you ship the old servo unit to them and they will ship the unit back to you with new components (boot and perhaps others?). Thanks!
  11. Hey everyone, new mooney owner here looking for the components to convert my PC wing leveler to an accutrak system capable of flying a course from a GPS which is a looming avionics upgrade for me, i know these are like a white whale but worth a shot, thanks everyone!
  12. How difficult is it to remove a Brittain T/C? The pneumatic hoses are all off but there is an electrical connection to an inverter. The inverter is mounted up in the footwell on the sidewall and would be a bear to remove. Is there a simple way to disconnect the electrical connection (grey wire)?
  13. I need to replace the hoses on the Brittain system behind the panel (original from 1977). 7/32 ID wiper/vacuum hose is the recommended replacement. It is offered in latex or silicone or "synthetic rubber". What are the pros and cons of each?
  14. I'm looking to add heading hold to my set-up and would like to know if anybody out there has a B-12 Accuflite II system they want to sell. This consists of the panel mounted switch and the Bi-818 computer module.
  15. I purchased this unit from Brittain industries to install in my mooney so that I could add a heading bug and roll steer to my positive control autopilot wing leveler in N242TS. As many of you know this airplane was in an accident so I no longer have a need for this unit. It was never installed and is still new in the box from Brittain.   16. I have had the parts/pieces for adding an Accutrac to my PC for a long time. Every time I get the urge to install it and get it working, I stumble on a very basic part of the installation: Where does the brain-box fit into, or under the panel? For those of you pre-J guys who are lucky enough to have an Accutrac installed, can you tell me (pictures would be great!) where you found to put the "box"?
  17. I need to remove three 40 year old servos to send to Brittain for overhaul. Is it okay to fly without the servos in place? I read somewhere that you should definitely not cap the vacuum lines to the servos after they are removed. Otherwise will wait until the airplane is down for annual to remove them.   18. I am in the process of replacing the Brittain autopilot in my 1967 F with an Stec 55X. Unfortunately I really do not like the way my current pilot's yoke has to be modified to accommodate all of the buttons that will be required. In the unlikely event that someone on this board has a couple of newer yokes, and also has a use for Brittain parts, I would like to swap. The Brittain items that I have available include EC100 Turn and Bank, AccuFliteII heading hold (DG is not included), Altitude Hold. All associated servos, switches and controllers have been removed from my plane and were working well when I flew the plane to the shop. Alternatively, if anyone would like to purchase the Brittain parts, or sell me yokes, let's talk.
  19. I have a 1965 M20C equipped with a Brittain autopilot with heading, cap, track, and loc selection knob. At this time the auto-leveler does not work but I plan to fix it. I am upgrading my aircraft with a GTN650, GMA350, and a course indicator GI106A. The GI106A comes with a VOR/ILS or VOR/ILS with course datum for an extra $500. Does anyone known if a Brittain autopilot can interact with a GTN650 and a course datum to intercept a course?
  20. I just did a couple of flights in my '67F model with the newly overhauled Brittain autopilot. How sweet it was! I had way more time to pay attention to navigation and engine management, and even to enjoy the scenery. It made my 3.8 hr and 4.2 hr legs way more relaxing. I had the main control box overhauled only. Make no mistake, I still have a few bugs to work out. It turns right faster than it turns left. And the T & B aileron trim knob is stiff to the point of feeling like I am breaking it off when I turn it. I figure I'll change out the 47 year old T & B and then start working on the servos next. However, once I trimmed out the ailerons and kicked in the autopilot, she held her heading fine within a degree. A big thanks to Kevin at Brittain for the wonderful job he did on re-soldering and replacing the defective main unit components. Life is good. Paul K
  21. Brittain Autopilot system. Avoid the factory 2-3 year wait. This is a complete Accutrack and Accuflite system. It contains all the major parts, you will only need a few fittings, hose and hookup wire. I have this same system on my plane and its an easy upgrade for anyone who has the factory PC or wing leveler. It will track up to 2 nav or gps sources as well as any heading dialed into the DG. The DG does have one knob missing which most shops should have laying around. Unlike Stec, Brittain will check out/ repair their used systems and give you the STC for a very reasonable amount. $2500, washing machine not included.

  23. When I got my M20F 50 hours ago, the Positive Control (PC) system worked great. Love it. But it seems to be developing an increasing tendency to turn left. I can zero this out with the roll trim knob in the panel, but now the roll trim knob is cranked over to the right quite a ways. It's not rigging because when I press the button to defeat the system, the plane tracks straight and level hands off. The turn coordinator appears to be functioning normally. The Brittain user manual says the roll trim knob might need to be turned as much as 90 degrees off center to straighten the plane and they still consider it normal operation, so maybe this is "normal", but I think I'm getting past the 90 degree point. Anyone else have this happen to them or have any ideas?
