  1. It's all good..maybe you were not happy and they were having a bad month or shabby crew at the time. I was just stating I was happy, still am and mine certainly does not look like the photos you are showing. I would have been pissed also. I was only sharing my experience..there are a few other paint shops also located at Mena. Maybe he might have a look. I was referred to Mena by a corporate construction company who keeps their plane at my field and it looked great. To each their own I guess. No big deal, the man just asked for suggestions. -Tom
  2. Mena Arkansas has several paint shops at the field. I had mine done there..maybe 4 yrs ago. Pricing it fits your budget. Turn around time was 2-3 weeks. Mena Aircraft Painting So far, so good. -Tom

  4. I think they just had one in TX. I would really like to see them have a course in the TN or northern Alabama, Georgia area.. Lots of us have spouses that are very nervous passengers. Kind of takes the wind out of my sails sometimes..I've just learned to roll with it. If she wants to go bad enough, she will. That's okay though..I enjoy the "me time" while I'm up there.
  5. Not sure if yours is working properly or not, but I think it was AOPA mag last month that said only 20% of the planes flying are ADS-B compliant already. Now since they are considering the idea of some rebate money for future ADS-B installs ( I don't know if that is a done deal or not?) some owners are waiting for that to happen and have said to be cancelling or pushing their ADS-B installs up to wait for the rebate money. You already own the 300, it's relatively compact and it's not the year 2020 yet. I say hang on a while longer if it is working correctly. Never hurts to have that extra insurance. Just my .02 -Tom
  6. And as the OP of this thread nearing six pages and now the big Mooney interest in your companies senders and potential sales I'll expect no commission, just a worthy minimal discount for my E will be sufficient when my senders are belly up.. . These do look nice. Hope to see some for the E model in the near future..I do still maintain that pilots need to flight-plan more carefully with respect to usable fuel for the journey. -Tom
  7. Prefer marshmallow or hotdogs on a stick.. Pretty cool stuff. Figure a way to strap this on a Mooney. http://worldwarwings.com/f-16s-full-afterburner-test-in-the-rain-see-what-it-did-behind-it?a=mk&var=ww2-so-dry -Tom
  8. I think you have taken this way beyond the original post..Looking at your prior posts etc obviously one of your areas of expertise is in fuel sending units and probably much more.. My comment was a general blanket comment. These pilots did not have a electrical fire, failed mechanical components, or catastrophic atmospheric conditions...they just ran out of gas. I plan my flight, I know the route, I know I can fly 3.5 hrs on full tanks. I know at the end of 3.5 hrs I need gas. If the flight is 4.5 hrs..I need to stop and get gas. It's very simple. Your impressive reports, calculations and conclusions are fine. I'm a simple guy making a simple statement. With 52 gallons you can't make a flight requiring 53 gallons without falling out of the sky. -Tom
  9. Great resource..Now if we can get pilots to utilize it.. Very nice feature.
  10. I would bet the second..Often people will ask me about a upcoming or past trip tip. Always a standard question, "How many fuel stops will you have to make?, probably just one right?, you've got a Mooney". I always try to plan to stop well in advance..If I think it will be close and that one tank should make it, I know with two stops I will make it. I not trying to come off sounding like these accidents were from bad pilots, I'm just saying that I'm really frustrated and hate to see people's lives turned upside down just because they think they should be able to make it. It's difficult to convince people how safe GA is when it seems like every other GA accident is fuel starvation. -Tom
  11. As I watch the news lately I'm seeing increased coverage of GA accidents. The majority seem to have a common problem..RUNNING OUT OF GAS.. This morning we were watching morning news and drinking coffee. TWO stories they covered within an hour were about two small planes that went down. One crashes on a roof-top and another that made a emergency landing on a highway, both the result of running out of gas. What is the problem? No common sense. Are we getting that lazy that we need to try to stretch our limits. Some of these guys are just foolish and making us, the GA look like idiots that can't calculate fuel. We are supposed to be able to do all kinds of calculations to become a PP, but we can't manage our fuel? -Tom
  12. Very well written and entertaining. If you end up flying as well as you write your journal you will be a PP in no time. Great story.. -Tom
  13. Kristin, Looks like this will be a good time. I'm going to try and get some of our local guys to head over. We are in Dyersburg (KDYR). Looks like about 125 miles. Keep us in mind and I'll send some emails and texts to my locals. I'll give you an update if I can get a few guys to caravan over. Hopefully so of our MS guys can show up as well. -Tom
  14. Looks great! Nice Epoxy flooring will be even better. Good luck -Tom
  15. I usually wash it keeping the salt air in mind. I remember when we were going to Bike Week and Biketoberfest pretty regular years ago and the bikes always seem to have that salty air feel in the mornings. Probably more my imagination, but I do understand where you are coming from. You get this way when you are land locked . On the other hand when I lived in New Hampshire near the beach I never noticed or thought twice about the salt air and I was a fanatic about keeping my stuff clean. -Tom
  16. The small losses on resale have been tolerable for the benefits gained. Don, That's my kind of logic... My problem is I never come out ahead.. -Tom
  17. Mostly blame Chris and Bob and classify it under a mental disorder, "panel envy" ..As we say down south, "That's my story and I'm stickin' to it". -Tom
  18. Spent my allowance about two years ago when I had the GTN750 put in GDL88 Diversified and Flight Stream 210... I know overkill on a 74 E model..
  19. I agree..I read these discreetly when the other half is around. It's hard enough to get them to fly. Just awful and so sad. -Tom
  20. Steven..Quick to pick up on the plurals on Aspens. Thanks to input from all of you I have decided to sink more $ into the endless hole. I had already ordered the Aspen Pro + and thanks to the input from a few forum members I also decided to add the companion MFD1000. I know I missed out on your package, but I didn't have all my ducks lined up when you posted so I was not sure what the budget would handle. It all worked out pretty good. Obviously, I'll own this for a while..or my estate will. Well over invested, but should be a competent bird. This was the final list after all and done. The surgery starts in July. JPI-930 Aspen Pro Plus Aspen MFD 1000 STec 30 A/P w/ GPSS Electric Trim Remote Garmin Audio Panel USB Clock (mentioned in the other thread) Remove/Replace Yokes with new 201 style. If all goes well I have it scheduled for tank reseal and Monroy Long Range Tanks installed in October. -Tom
  21. Dan, Sounds great. Be great to meet you. If near lunch time we can grab lunch and talk Mooney. Call me at 731-287-7800. I should be around all day.
  22. Thanks Don..I'll check it out this evening.
  23. Bob, That's what I thought.. I was hoping I might have a "freebie" in my GTN750 paperwork. While trying to figure this out I noticed still had the coupon for the free first time update wit the CD tutorial and POH. It downloaded the coupon code even though it said good for 90 days after purchase..it's been three years, it still validated through 2016 with all data with exception of the charts. That's the only one it did not take. I'm assuming like you said because it is a separate subscription..Go figure..I may just keep using the Ipad until the Aspens are put in and go from there. There's going to be plenty of a learning curve as is. Thanks.. -Tom
  24. Okay..I've had my GTN-750 a few years now and as a VFR guy used it for my VFR needs. As posted prior I've been working on my IFR on my own (primarily ground school and practicing approaches using the GTN750 and Ipad). I've been doing as much as possible on my own to get a handle on the procedures etc..My plane goes in the shop next month for some avionics upgrades so to not waste money I have not seeked the advice of a CFI instruction just yet because with the planned upgrades it will be like starting all over getting familiar with the new avionics. I'll continue with what I've been doing. I think it will benefit me to learn basic IFR approaches and aircraft management even before CFI work. Back to topic.. I've never really used the chart functions on the GTN750, I've just compensated when needed with IPad and whatever portable I was using. Here is what I've been trying to figure out..The 750 will load an approach, activate etc and display IAF points on the regular moving map. If I try to display charts it reads "Charts Unavailable" or something along those lines. As I've been practicing lately I've just defaulted to the IPad charts when needed. I think I have the most recent data and software updates on the 750. It will show the regular moving map and approach fixes. Just won't display the charts. I'm sure it's probably a $ add-on from Garmin or Jep, but odd it does not display any charts at all? I have not asked my avionics shop yet, but I have done several forum searches and Youtube searches. I'm overlooking something, maybe not programming correctly or just don't have a correct subscription. I've been making good progress with the IFR and look forward to really getting to the meat of it after the avionics upgrades. Now...where are those darn charts on my 750? Any help? Thanks in advance. Thanks, -Tom
  25. Brian, Awesome write-up and congrats.. Now I don't know if you've made me more nervous about continuing working toward mine or more excited to push harder..Reading all of that just made me realize..Geez, I'm not even close to ready and have a long way to go. A big congrats to you though! Sounds like you were very prepared. Now I'll go look some of that stuff up that you mentioned..lol -Tom
