  1. Mike, I should be registered to fly with your great CFI team, will we get something on the actual schedule or should we contact CarolAnn or Abe or...
  2. Well, ONE of us actually knows a little something about the '66 M20E... mostly learned the hard way. Congrats Lance! Look forward to meeting you in New England. Happy flying! Flyer from Minuteman this week: http://us6.campaign-archive2.com/?u=d7fc7517ab13edf6e8b8434d0&id=0db7f8e15c&e=783c1d0a33
  3. I still remember New York Control's instruction for a flight from Danbury to Linden: Fly the west side of the river below 1500'(?), turn right at the Lady.
  4. A C model, with a fixed step, external camera, and the roof vent open... still smoking anything else in it's class or price range.
  5. Clarence, I don't disagree and I'm amused at Lycoming's comment on Mooney's SB that was precipitated by Lycoming's unhappiness with Mooney's recommendation using a prop yoke stand which we discussed here at length. FWIW, we lifted the plane slowly with helpers steadying the wing tips and only high enough to lower and lock the gear. ISTM this was less problematical than it would be to use a engine hoist, perhaps for days, during an annual. This engine was going to need be removed, torn down and reinstalled which made a difference in my mind.
  6. If it happens to you in a Mooney, take off the top cowl to get to the engine lift hook, lift the plane with a chain from a tow motor (with a weight on the tail tie down) high enough to lower the gear which is unlikely to be harmed. Tow the plane to the ramp. Not 10 minutes but not a lot longer.
  7. Yeah, I report my position and intentions to extend but he did not respond to my request for an update on his position.
  8. Yup, but there is more info including closing rate and target airspeed on the traffic screen. And all the non traffic clutter is gone leaving a high contrast display. Try it if you have the GLD88 and GTN750 or similar.
  9. I have recently added a step to my landing procedure. I flip the GTN750 to traffic mode and zoom in close as I near the airport. One more set of eyes. I was coming in from PDK last week as a Lear was approaching our uncontrolled field from the east to make (non standard) right traffic to Rwy 3. I stayed to the west of the field, extended my downwind and tried to get a visual on my speedy friend. He beat me in, I never saw him. He did broadcast his presence and intentions from 15 out. He did no followup.
  10. When you guys get to be my age you will take precautions as to mislabeled bottle. No one drinks anything out of a Prestone jug. Just sayin'
  11. Used to fly all the time, alone, with a gallon Prestone antifreeze jug.
  12. This thread got me thinking and I placed an order with mypilotshop.com so that I am not in pain on 3 hour flights, maybe even have coffee with breakfast or carry a thermos like I used to when I was young. Travel John Portable Toilet 18 Pack $28.95 (That's $1.61 per pee. Many's the time I'd have paid a whole lot more...) mypilotshop has a better price than Sporty's or Amazon, at least today. http://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/2632
  13. I have O&N bladders in my E. I could get their newer option to add 5 gallons on each side which would take my E to 64 gallons matching the F. And this might make sense if I wanted to fly 5 hours legs with just 2 on board. Even with Oxygen and a Travel John I prefer to break flights into smaller legs. And even if I wanted to macho it my co-pilot and wife of 51 plus years would nix that idea.
  14. I've had 4 real (>170#) adults in my Es quite a few times for flights of a couple of hours. Headed to KQMI or KMRH -- less than 2 hours in what is approximately like an Airbus window seat beats 6 or 7 hours fighting traffic in a Japanese car any time. I've never had someone decline a ride to the beach because the ladies in the back felt cramped. (I'm short. A 6'4' pilot would need to steal a lot more of the legroom behind him.) The bigger issue might be that the short Mooneys have a 2575# gross and about 900# useful. The F is 2740# and maybe over 1000# useful.
  15. Clarence, what did you do to the pr valve? Mine is apparently adjusted as far as it will go and the OP dips below 60 psi (bottom of green) at climb/cruise power unless OTemp is below 200F. (AShell 100W) I was told by an engine builder that OP is very sensitive to valve lifter clearance. (If the bore is at the high end of spec and the stem dia is at the low oil pressure is lost.)
  16. Sabreliner and 172. Apparently both "approaching to land" Brown Field. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Reports-of-Plane-Down-Otay-Lakes-Road-Officials-321995182.html
  17. I haven't really shopped one, Ms. Google brought up Chief who shows a complete conversion kit at around $500. I think that included the genuine Lycoming part.
  18. That's exactly what my A&P did with mine. We sent it to Triad in Burlington NC. Haven't seen the bill yet but I expect it to be minimal.
  19. The point is that druidjaidan has a budget of $60k. He wants an IFR, his partners wants an F. I noted that 2 planes on the LASAR site met those specs. The owner of the $48k 69F has owned the plane for over 30 years, the paint is fine (if you're s Tar Heel fan) and the interior is supposed to be 1 year old. The panel is very old but the rest of the story looks promising. I would want to talk to that long time owner to get a feel for where his priorities have been over the years. The '75F in Louisiana might be a better buy at $55k newer plane, much better panel, long time owner, low time engine, nice paint...
  20. The baggage door is the same size on all Mooneys, at least through K, isn't it? And the F/G/J/K only added a couple of inches to baggage area and 10" to back seat leg room, I think.
  21. You would benefit from the LASAR mod that moves the cooler back behind #4 cyl. "Oil cooler relocated by Lake Aero Style STC SA2513NM"
  22. There's a Lycoming SI for the reaming, probably requiring renting a tool from Lycoming. Or do what we did, shipped the filter conversion housing off to our friendly engine builder who turned it around in one day. The seat can only be reamed 0.010". A new Vernatherm is $300+. A new conversion part kit might be $700. if the seat is too far gone.

  24. Have you considered dealing with All American (Jimmy Garrison), Premier (Richard Simile), or another reputable dealer? I bought my Mooneys in private sales but several here report dealing with these guys is the way to go. Some have traded with All American multiple times. As admitted novices, I suppose a reputable broker/dealer should be able to earn their share of the transaction.
