  1. My son and daughter are still on our family plan and I pay the bill and they reimburse me. My son upgraded to the top of the line Apple product last summer. In prior months we never came close to running out of data but after he got that phone we ran out a week before the end of the billing cycle. I talked to Verizon about it. He checked and said my son was using a disproportionate amount of data and explained to me that my son’s phone could inhale such a large amount of data in a short period of time. All the ads and crap that we see to the side of the subject we are hunting end up totally downloaded where with the old phone he would have continued onto another search and all those ads etc would not have been downloaded due to the time constraint and lack of down load speed. Maybe I don’t want a lightening fast phone or maybe the Verizon guy was wrong. But, it made sense to me.
  2. I have double clicked and swipe anything that shows up away. I do that on a regular basis. Rebooting the phone does help but still the volume, lack of mic sensitivity and my cheek touching the screen and ordering unwanted commands, like mute, is just too much anymore. I’m thinking the used phone idea is probably a good move provided it’s been refurbished or I know the person who has it and can verify it’s performance.
  3. Can only block a limited number of numbers with a flip phone. That’s something I didn’t know. Hmmm
  4. Don, my phone isn’t loud enough to easily understand someone. I also have to cup my hand around the mic in order for the person at the other end to hear me. When I press it against my ear it goes to speaker mode or mute mode or whatever else it wants to do. It seems to make a ton of calls (butt calls) no matter how I turn it off and no matter how many times I make sure all is erased prior to shut down. The battery sometimes runs down fast even though nothing seems to be open. The phone will sometimes over heat in my pocket. I know I’m no brainiac when it comes to modern technology but I tkink some of the problems are mine but many of the problems are with the phone. When I mentioned a flip phone I am really considering such. They are cheap, get the job done and when the lid is shut the phone is off. The cheap flip phone would allow me to justify a second iPad.
  5. My dad is 97 yrs old. He recently bought a new car (an American car). I meet him and his buddies at McDonalds for breakfast about five days a week. I accompanied him on the Honor Flight about ten years ago, that was awesome and very, very touching. Around that same time I took him over to Paris where he had spent VE Day at war’s end. We then visited Normandy; another place that brings tears to your eyes for both sides of that battle. From there we went south to Nice where he had landed late in the war. He was and still is amazed at the changes in France since ww2. My father in law, who has been gone for about fifteen years, was also a wwII vet. He spent the entire war in a Japanese prison camp. He did the Bataan Death March and somehow survived. I’m,grateful he did as I was able to marry his future daughter and we now have An adult son and daughter. There is good reason those guys are considered The Greatest Generation!
  6. So, in reading the review, it sounds like the XR is priced at $750. At that price I could buy another IPad and a flip phone which I would almost rather have. Is there a non Apple product priced at about half that?
  7. Not sure if this is the right spot for this topic but it seems to fit? My cell phone, an iPhone5, has about done its time so I’ll be back to the Verizon store this week to replace it. I’d like to get something I can get in my pocket but the screen is big enough and memory big enough that I could load FlyQ or other aviation apps. I don’t want to spend a stupid money on a phone just looking for the biggest bang for the buck. Should I shop it at Verizon or am I better off elsewhere? Suggestions appreciated.
  8. Really enjoyed it! How old is your dad? Actually the two of you made the trip an excellent tutorial. That north west trip through the Rockies looks challenging. Almost tried it last September myself but the wildfires and my inexperience told me to stay at home. Maybe next year.
  9. Bryan, I’m rather anal when it comes to oil leaks and I’m only satisfied when I find the source. When I bought my J it had a small leak at what I thought was the passenger side rear of the engine. The bottom of the fill tube appeared wet. Looking through the logs that fill tube was removed and resealed several times so I started looking elsewhere. It turned out there where two small return hoses under the cylinders and one had a stripped hose clamp so it wasn’t doing it’s job. I replaced it and the oil leak went away. My engine is now pretty dry and I’m satisfied. Just keep cleaning and looking, you’ll find the source and you’ll feel good knowing it’s fixed.
  10. I agree. That much fuel couldn’t have been hiding under a panel and neve found its way to the ground. I bet the stains you saw under a panel were there prior to the patch. Don’t be too hasty. You may have a hell of a nice plane even of it needs one more minor touch up to a prior patch job. Or maybe it isn’t even leaking. Fill it again and recheck.
  11. That’s a good sign!
  12. I would consider these to be more south than Midwest. The prices down there and Florida, Georgia etc always seems to be way less than the Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, etc, etc.
  13. I think along your thought pattern but passenger car gas prices have been down for awhile, way more than two months, and they are continuing to drop. Aviation fuel around Cincinnati seems to be going up. Sporty’s (I69) is $5.45/gal and most of the small airports in the area are all pushing $5/gal with LUK and CVG both well over $6. Just looking at gas prices on FLYQ around the country there seem to be fewer airports selling under $4/gal. I do hope they start to trend down but I don’t see it yet.
  14. Auto gas has dropped substantially in the last six months and yet aviation gas seems like it may have actually increased in price over the same time period. Seems like we should see a drop one of these days. Anybody know the reasoning for the lack of movement?
  15. Inside the case will be higher pressure than outside the case due to blow bye past the rings. So maybe that’s why it only leaks from inside out? If the vent is plugged or restricted the inside pressure would be a lot higher.
  16. Clarence, what do you think about verifying the torque on the 7/16 inch screws as suggested by N201MKTurbo?
  17. If there is a leak in the gasket, I would think an oscillation would happen when the oil was at the gasket line due to oil sloshing back and forth over the leak spot. As the oil went under the line the pressure would stabilize at a lower pressure. If the vent tube was partially plugged wouldn’t the crankcase pressure rise and push more air through the hypothetical gasket leak? The pressure difference from the intake side of the pump to the pressurized oil pan would be even more significant. Maybe cleaning the vent tube would help?
  18. I am thinking air is being sucked in from inside the engine crank case not from the outside.
  19. What a cool little plane!
  20. My mind always goes back to an automobile engine as I’ve never had an aircraft engine apart. A typical auto engine would have the pickup mounted from a tube that would go to the oil pump. I had invisioned a leak or crack in this tube at the 5 1/2 quart line. I assume this tube does not exist but is rather part of the case and sump. What is mentioned above makes a whole lot of sense. If the gasket between the two parts is leaking it would be sucking oil above a certain level and air below that level. Maybe the joint between the accessory case and the sump just needs to be tightened up? I have no idea how difficult that might be or if it can be done?
  21. Ok, that makes a lot of sense.
  22. I was told once and remember, as it’s true, raising the oil pressure comes at the cost of lowering oil volume to the moving parts. Pressure regulator just reduces flow. The pressure is usually measured at the oil pump side of the pressure regulator. The amount of oil at the other side of the regulator is what’s important.
  23. Curious, how much was the annual? That might(?) add some insight to the wheel bearing issue.
  24. Typically if the plane has a three blade prop there is no AD. Just a tip while you’re hunting.
  25. After blowing up the photo I think you are right. In fact it looks like a wrap of some sort.
