  1. A little unrelated, but I do that all the time in these threads: I have had the wind pick me up after I've landed and weathervane me towards the side of the runway. Fortunately it was a 150ft wide runway and I was on the centerline so I was able to correct before taking an excursion. A taildragger pilot says to me, "you've always got to keep those ailerons set for the wind direction." I experienced something like you described in a 180hp Archer before as well. I opted to do a go around when my approach wasn't right. The Archer had Johnson bar flaps with four "clicks." I grab it and start pulling the flaps up after applying full power and establishing positive climb. The ratcheting mechanism gave way and it dumped the flaps and I found myself falling. I wasn't stalled, but I pitched down like you would in a recovery and got out of it.
  2. ^ That doesn't sound right at all. Mine took around a month.
  3. Try leaning and see if the cylinder goes cold and stops firing first. I would imagine that you could also have an obstruction between the spider and the injector as well. Also; is there any chance that the "#2" probe might not be on the #2 cylinder?
  4. So all of this begs the question: Did they put all five of them in the helicopter?
  5. My registration is due for renewal by the end of june and I have not received a notice for it yet. I think it's important to get this resolved. Anybody know how to go about renewing a registration without the renewal code? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I'll add that JPI included the fuel pressure transducer and function in my EDM-900 in the price of the kit, because it was in the POH. If you read my previous posts on this back when I was deciding, I really had my heart set on the EI unit. Time and weather permitting, I may run out to sun-n-fun today and check the show specials.
  7. I would be careful what you put back there, a spilled soda can be bad for the spar.
  8. You hear him here around the 18:30 mark saying he's going break off to the north and wait out the weather. The last flightaware location is about a minute from then. It sounds like his voice saying "unable 3000 in the soup" shortly after the 20:00 mark and, if that's him, he's expressing concern over the other pilots coming in with the weather as it was. I listened to the tower transmissions around the same time and within a minute the winds went from 10kts to 15G21. http://archive-server.liveatc.net/klal/KLAL-App-Dep-Apr-20-2015-1800Z.mp3
  9. http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/aircraft-for-sale/MOONEY-ACCLAIM-TYPE-S/2015-MOONEY-ACCLAIM-TYPE-S/1332995.htm It's listed on Controller for $733,000 by Premier. I'm guessing they were flying it up to Lakeland for Sun-n-Fun. I wonder what happened. The weather isn't good today.
  10. 1 minor injury. Brand new Acclaim. http://www.baynews9.com/content/news/baynews9/news/article.html/content/news/articles/bn9/2015/4/20/small_plane_crashes_.html Looks like he was long established on final for 27. There are storms in the area, but the METARs look fairly benign. Last two points were at 82 and 77kts over the ground at 1000 MSL. Winds on the surface were <10kts out of the southwest
  11. There's all sorts of stupid in that one. It says they were students; was there an instructor on board? You've got a camera crew at the end of the runway filming the landing and nobody calls the guy up to tell him to go around? Or is it that nobody had a handheld radio to monitor traffic, even though the camera crew is on the runway.
  12. lol...reminds me of this: http://www.duffelblog.com/2014/07/man-charged-stolen-valor-failing-recall-horrors-supply-checkout/
  13. Maybe they had one in the trunk. Last time there was a plane related to those guys it was the guy who'd been drinking in the repaired submarine M20E and ran out of gas. IIRC, there was something else -- he was out of medical or the plane was out of annual; I can't remember. I've spoken with the Pressly folks before and they've been helpful and seemed knowledgeable. There is, at a minimum, a superficial risk associated with purchasing a plane from a salvage outfit. If both the submarine repair and this accident are the result of very poor preflight planning, both pilots clearly demonstrated a greater propensity towards risk-taking than most pilots I know and/or a lack of due-diligence in buying an airplane from a salvage outfit to begin with.
  14. I've flown into KVGT a couple years ago. I recall it being an excellent experience. The line guys weren't allowed to accept tips when I arrived. The arrivals and departure were also a lot of fun. There is an altitude window that you have to be between on the SID that I received.

  17. I may be wrong, so please verify, but I don't think the CGR30-P is certified to replace the fuel level gauges. That's one reason that I went with the JPI EDM-900 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Where on Dale Mabry? I'm pretty sure there are parts of it that are class B to the surface just east of KTPA
  19. Who's going? Vote on the poll to indicate intended dates and location. Also, can somebody post a picture or scan of a wristband?
  20. And if you do something that the guys in the tower at KFMY don't like, they'll be more than happy to let you know.
  21. What if your exploding battery damaged the O2 bottle?
  22. I'll go ahead and add since I'm in Florida and we have a combination of a LOT of GA traffic at controlled and uncontrolled fields, and a good amount of foreign students, that I am beyond clear at enunciating my position, intention and sequencing. If you're lucky enough to have a tower, at some of the fields that are not so busy you can end up with either a swarm of pilots who caravan in at once, distracting the poor fellow in the tower, or at uncontrolled fields you can have all sorts of confusion. I've bugged out on flying in to KLAL during a fly-in (not sun-n-fun) once. As it turns out, a number of others that were going did the same due to the confusion in and around the airspace.
  23. I purchased my mooney from an owner who had his maintained by Willmar for 20+ years. I had them do the PPI, which is generally frowned upon since they had maintained it. One thing I will caution you on is that the most damage and greatest expenses I've experienced since purchasing my airplane have been due to taking it to an IA for my first annual that was not very familiar with Mooneys that I used to save money on an annual. I would say that overall the oversights have cost me $4000, or more, in cumulative repairs and being grounded while out of town. Most of that has to do with the spinner not being properly mounted and the bulkhead cracking as a result. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. You guys are over the tops of the clouds while I'm getting kicked around and worrying if there's a build up that I can't see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
