  1. Perfect entry into the most significant part of the whole Portugal thing. Eliminating the cost of police enforcement, jails, trials, etc with the increased revenue from taxes will provide needed funds for exactly those uses and to help reduce the mental illness lack of care issue really responsible for violent crimes like Sandy Hook, etc. Thank you. I couldn't have done it better myself.
  2. Not to speak for midlifeflyer but I think you missed his point. He only said they aren't as likely to drive not that their driving wouldn't be impaired. A reduced likelihood to drive would result in a lower likelihood of an accident. I also agree with him that pot smoking is much more pervasive than most think and that there have been pot saturated drivers around for long enough for it to have been statistically relevant already. I don't recall ever hearing about an accident attributed to pot (clearly an anecdotal statement).
  3. The Democrats want to tell us how we should live and the Republicans tell us how we shouldn't. Surprisingly, these questions have already been answered on a large scale over a long enough period to give meaningful answers. Portugal decriminalized essentially all recreational drugs. All of them including heroin, cocaine, meth, you name it. The net result has been no significant increase in usage and a huge decrease in regulatory costs and violence. Not to mention the increased tax revenues. This question is asked and answered. I'm not saying any of these are necessarily good for the individual using them nor is it condoning those drugs when they are decriminalized (just like legal alcohol isn't encouraging people to use it) but from a larger perspective, society is severely damaged by keeping them illegal. We have standards with respect to alcohol and operations of machinery and cars and planes that help guide responsible people to make responsible decisions. With these drugs being illegal, period, how does one make a reasonable decision if one has reasonably used MJ in CO? And, by the way, while there is evidence that even small amounts of alcohol in the blood can effect driving skills (hence the new discussion to reduce the legal limit to 0.05) there is no evidence to support that it will actually reduce accidents since almost all alcohol related accidents involve blood alcohol levels north of 0.12. We should concentrate on what matters not what just has some effect of no significance. If you don't like pot, don't use it. If your worried about refer madness, there is no basis for that fear. If you care about society more than the individual bent on hurting themselves no matter what, forget about it and let them do themselves in. They're going to find a way anyhow. Back to my libertarian leanings. I always try to look where government should get involved and it is always when ones actions interferes with the rights of another and never when ones actions harms themselves (children excluded). This is an individual knowingly acting in a harmful or potentially harmful manner with only themselves at risk.
  4. Mine has no odor at all. So it must dissipate completely.
  5. I'm usually there from Thursday afternoon through Sunday and I volunteer at the medical facility Friday - Sunday mornings.
  6. Only 5 of the 10 committed have actually placed their orders so far. Please don't leave the 5 out in the cold with the group purchase thing. FYI, the Huskey group has also purchased 2.
  7. For those who mentioned an interest in a set, I just noticed they are on sale on the Quiet Technologies website for $359.
  8. Although I just found this and couldn't come even if it wasn't full, thanks to Mike and Ron for sponsoring this. If it continues, hopefully your timing and my schedule will come together in the future.
  9. A Sonex builder told me his plane gained 22 lbs when painted. The Mooney has to be significant;y more, of course, there is already some paint there to begin with. As to the real value of a godd wax: your plane looks better, you can comb your hair in the relection (if I had hair so could I), you can see if the FAA is sneaking up on you from behind as your getting in, you can use the reflection as a flashlight to see way back into your hangar, you can blind the guy your passing. There are so many reasons.
  10. Marauder, you won't be dissappointed. You'll enjoy the security of KNOWING what speed to fly and you should see a significant improvement, assuming you need any, in your landings once you trust the information. It took me a few trips to altitude to confirm it was really working since it slowed me down so much I was uncomfortable on approach until I was sure. Bumper, it is a group buy and you need to ammend your order to show MooneySpace on your order for Rip to know it qualifies for the discount. For the benefit of you Husky fliers you might want to start this anyway. The use of an AOA is even more importnt on short and soft fields. You'd have to ask Rip if the group buy would apply there and how many would be required.
  11. Marauder, I've seen the Alpha System letter. It is included in Rip's documentation also. My IA was a little more conservative and wants either a specific letter about the CYA-100 or a more general letter that clearly covers all AOAs that fit the description. Fantom, Bnicolette - average install time is pretty easy. Since I've only done one the math works out - I don't think I spent more than a couple hours doing the entire installation and another 5 hours at home making one housing after another until I was satisfied! If you have any experience making a housing, I'm sure yours will go much faster. I kept thinking this would be a great application for a 3D printer. The toughest part was getting the wiring from the outside into the plane. I finally found a hole in the floor the wires fit through. Someone asked right or left wing. I installed mine on the left for no particular reason but Rip noted above that since most patterns are left, the left wing is more prone to stalling fist and so that is where most are placed. Rip, how would you like to handle the paperwork?
  12. I just don't understand how to explain that it is the ASI that is more likey to lead you to the 5 kts mistake than the AOA when you are heavier than you expect on a hotter day than usual and your stall speed has increased more than you think it will. The AOA makes it possible to always, if you chose, to approach at 1.3 VSO rather than possibly at 1.1 without knowing it. Of all the areas of aviation (military, commercial, GA), the military depends, and maybe the A/P logic in airlines too for all I know, on AOAs to maintain safety under the most difficult environments and they do very well at it. Why shouldn't we learn from their success?
  13. Now in (assuming all questions are answered): M016576, Fantom, Hank, BobAustin, Marauder, Wishboneash, Aviatoreb, Rocket Aviator, N4352H, and mikerocosm. Maybe: DaV8or? Fantom, did you get sufficient pictures? Did you look at my CYA-100 thread? There are also pictures there. As for taking your lives in your hands, I can only tell you I've flown with 3 different AOAs and this is the easiest to install and calibrate and has worked well and reliably. Not a large sample but better than blind faith. Almost there. So, let's get all the remaining questions answered and one more person and get Rip working on sending them out.
  14. Now in (assuming all questions are answered): Fantom, Hank, BobAustin, Marauder, Wishboneash, Aviatoreb, Rocket Aviator, N4352H, and mikerocosm. Maybe: DaV8or? 9 or 10 in with maybe 1 to go. Almost there. So, let's get all the remaining questions answered and one more person and get Rip working on sending them out.
  15. Bennett, the indicator is very small (2 x 1.25 x 0.375 inch). If you go to the website and download the installation manual there is a template for the display.
  16. Now in (assuming all questions are answered): Fantom, Hank, BobAustin, Marauder, Wishboneash, Aviatoreb, Rocket Aviator, and mikerocosm. Maybe: DaV8or? 8 or 9 in with 1 or 2 to go. Almost there. So, let's get all the remaining questions answered and one more person and get Rip working on sending them out.
  17. Now in (assuming all questions are answered): Fantom, Hank, BobAustin, Marauder and mikerocosm. Maybe: DaV8or? 5 or 6 in with 4 or 5 to go.
  18. Wishboneash, I think your comments that less precise information leads to better decision making isn't one I can really accept. I also think your IFR/VFR analogy isn't the best considering the number of VFR to IMC accidents that occur every year. I'm glad your in though since I'm certain once you have it and test it at a safe altitude, as I did, you'll find it very useful.
  19. I have a short video that shows the start up sequence of the display. I haven't been able to upload it but if you email me, I'll be happy to email it back. I just don't want to post it on youtube. I've mounted the unit in a small aluminum box I made and velcroed it to the glare shield. Works great. You can see pics of that on the CYA-100 thread I started some time ago.
  20. That would be Marauder and mikerocosm. Did I read that DaV8or is also in?
  21. Guys, I appreciate the difference of opinion. PTK has his and most of have a different one. Fine. Personally, with no financial interest in this, I'm intersted in making sure that those of you that want what I consider a major safety item to install at what I also believe is the best price you'll find, have an opportunity to do so. So far many of you expressed interest, we are waiting for Marauder's IA to get back to us with the FAA letter, and two have tentatively committed. Who esle is interested if the FAA letter comes through? Rip is only willing to give the 10% for a min of 10 units so 8 more are needed.
  22. Okay, so how do you proceed with your orders? Do you each agree on here and at a count of 10 Rip contacts the buyers or some other way? I'm not sure how these group buys work on MooneySpace?
  23. I thought about an oil separator too but after my engine was rebuilt there wasn't any oil leakage to separate. Makes me wonder if you are covering up a problem rather than solving it.
  24. On my Mooney, and I presume on most, there is an escellent inspection panel location just back from the leading edge and far enough out to be out of the prop wash. It is the second inspection panel out from the fuselage. The vane is so light and creates so little pressure on the plate it didn't even require reenforcing. About as easy as it can be. I drilled 3 holes in the panel and, even if I have to remove the vane, the holes are so small, they are meaningless.
