The on/off switch is also useful in initial programming. I originally had my unit on the glare shield in its own box and have moved it to a different airplane and installed it in the panel. The panel looks better but the glare shield location was better during approach and landing for visibility and, in hindsight, I think that was better for obvious reasons

I sold my Rocket and the bought a 25% share in an M20F but the CYA 100 stayed with me and is now installed in the F.

You guys think my F is too slow.

145 mph? I've been looking at knots. -

I think climb is pretty anemic but I was used to the climb in a Rocket. You know, point the nose up, sit back, and look at the sky until you reach your desired altitude. -

I'll start looking into these suggestions next week as I'm actually working (I hate the thought) too much this week and won't have time. This F is a 3 blade and I usually run WOT, 2400 RPM, 50 degree ROP at 6,000 to 8,000. My JPI 900 shows high 60s for %HP. -
In another thread several other F drivers noted they felt my F was too slow. I'm trying to figure out why. I've attached a few pictures of things I feel might be creating more drag than other F's out there and would appreciate comments on the likelihood these may actually be the culprit. Sorry about some of them being sideways. Thanks. Two of these antennas: The overhead vent closed and opened: Various belly protrusions:

I can't speak for a larger dog but my 25 pounder will hop onto the wing and get right in the back seat. I preferred to remove the back seats and lay the backs down to make a large area for a dog bed and to eliminate the possibility of his nails hurting the upholstery. With the back open there would be lots of room for the dogs. I can't speak to W&B shifts either but I doubt that even both dogs moving to the back would substantially alter the flight characteristics if that was considered in loading. For high altitude trips, I had an O2 device that tapped into the ships O2 system and fed him O2 without any problems on a FL190 flight for 8 hrs (2x4 hr legs). The pic below is him in a SeaRey. He loves to fly.

You mean these planes fly east also. Dang. No wonder it always take so long to get back home. I'm not an ambi-flyer (for those Zoolander fans out there.) I believe a C is faster than an F (smaller airframe but smaller engine too) and most flight planning software uses 130s for flight plan at cruise. I don't have any speed mods that I know of either.

I have a 74 F and could give you a ride sometime. I'm in Orlando at KSFB.

Last time that happened, and the only time, it was new engine time. Sorry.

Depends. If the cost of fuel per hour exceeds the hourly variable cost and you don't count the pilot's time as having any alternative value, it does. Even at the current reduced cost of 100LL, the hourly fuel is greater than the hourly variable cost (say $50 vs $35/hr) but it isn't a lot. The real savings come in fixed costs (annual, insurance, etc) and even more so since I sold my Rocket and bought a 25% share in the F. All in all, my costs are less than half on an annual basis. Furthermore, my current mission is too short for a Rocket. I barely had time to get the engine set before it was time to prepare for landing and undue it all. I really felt I was doing a disservice to the airplane using it in ways not best for it. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to confirm my decision was the right decision despite the emotional angst of flying so much slower, climbing so much slower, and flying so much lower. I do miss her but I'm sure it is better for her to be flown more to her nature than mine. Can't I be a little ambivalent about the whole thing!

Ah, I remember those days. Now I'm regularly seeing 130 kts indicated and ground speeds as high as 140 kts in my 74 F. On the flip side, I'm using about 25% less fuel on a given trip that takes 50% longer to accomplish.

I like that Rainman can use his to put his K on the ceiling! Save a lot of floor space too.

Silica. Easy to use and reuse by drying in the oven at low temperatures overnight. Attached are the directions for the unit I used. Engine_Dryer_Sport_Avi.pdf

Anthony, I can tell you I had to major overhaul my engine after 8 weeks idle time at Venice airport in Florida. Now, Venice is right on the Gulf of Mexico and the salt is very real. So is the humidity. The dehumidifier is cheap insurance. I also advise against the open circuit as the air gets drier each pass in a closed circuit (or uses up your descant more slowly) and only gets so dry on an open circuit.

I can recommend one in Orlando, Chris Reilly - http://www.ksfbamc.com. He did the pre-buy on the Mooney I sold and the new buyer seemed very satisfied and I've worked with Chris for years on several Mooneys.

Where might you be located? I have a tug I purchased and used for several years but don't need anymore since I sold the plane. If you are in the mid FL area it might be worth your drive to come get mine for a reasonable price, say $125. If your interested, I'll see if I have pictures but it isn't the portable type. This has a full lawnmower engine on it (4 or 5 hp I believe).

The Bendix King AOA is much more significant to install, The CYA is uniquely simple to install since it only has two wires from the probe to the plane and only the indicator to install in the panel (I believe all the others use pitot tubes from the wing to the plane, a box in the plane, and the indicator).
-
They are completely out of their minds. I installed the unit myself, under the supervision of an IA, and there was no way it took more than 5 or 6 hours (not including installing in the panel itself). At $100/hr and adding 100%, that is only $1,200. Find another shop whom you can trust!

You can also wire it directly to your headset so only the pilot hears it but then you have to use resistors for volume control and it isn't adjustable.

Thanks for all your help. Always helps to have the voice of experience available.

I'd love to do the 201 mod but I don't think that is in the cards. I actually have the person to do the installation but I'm looking for where to get the windshield itself.
-
My windshield is old, like as old as the plane, and needs to be replaced. I have someone to replace it but I need to get the material. Does anyone know where to get the best value for a new windscreen for a 74 F? Thanks for your help.
