  1. Hmmmm. Does Cross State count? I also do a fair amount of local flying. I still have just a fascination & love of flying and I need to get my "fix" a couple times per week. Often times through the week since I live only 15 minutes from the airport I will on a whim hop up and go strap on the Mooney for a 1/2 hour flight, then I'm content. It's mostly just to commute (well at least that's the justification for owning it) but the fantastic thing about the Mooney is it economical to just go out and play with too!
  2. Also Dan if I can be of any assistance please let me know. Im based at LBE.
  3. Talk to Steve at Advanced Aircraft Maintenance at Rostraver Airport. They have a website. He is also a guru with th fuel tanks from what I hear. Good Mooney Guy. Weber is also a first class choice!
  4. Done. Thanks for posting Scott.
  5. I also have the Halo's and like them. I do have to say that I had a set of the Zulu.2's for a while which I really liked also. One of the downfalls of the Halo is the ear piece. In the summer the ear pieces get hot and almost impossible to get in your ear as the foam gets SO mushy. In the winter time it takes them quite a bit to expand. However, once they are in place you forget that you have a headset on. I do find that after about an hour my inner ear gets itchy from the ear inserts but not so much so that they are uncomfortable. The noise reduction is awesome and much better than what you would think you would get without any ANR taking place. They also hang very nicely on the hand mike if you still have that dinosaur hanging in your plane. If you took the time to get custom made ear inserts they probably wouldn't offer the same noise reduction but would be a lot easier to contend with in the temperature swings.
  6. Definitely a line of wx between here and there. The PAMP will not be there. You're more than welcome to cross that line and come have lunch here though. ;-)
  7. My west side pa group is bailing. What is everybody doing? How many do we have for sure?
  8. We went to see this on Thursday while we were on vacation and it was raining. (kids 8 & 10) Theatre was completely packed and it sold out :45 minutes before show start. Well before the theatre went dark to show the :30 of previews. :-) We all thought it was really good and hopefully it will plant some seeds in those young minds for future pilots. It was nowhere near as good as Cars but that one would be hard to top anyhow. Definitely worth the $$ if you've got little ones.
  9. Yeah I see Byron threw me into the mix up above there to and all I was doing was peacefully sitting on the sidelines being entertained? WTH? :-)
  10. Ding ding ding.......in this corner we have.........
  11. Wow. Thems fighten words
  12. No no no Anthony........that doesn't count! I will be there and the only thing that will stop me is if I have less than 500' ceilings over the ridges. Oh and thunderstorms in my way.
  13. Damnit!! Well then I'm taking my ball and going home.
  14. Hey all just an update on attendees. There are 4 Mooney's coming from the west side of PA at the moment. 3 J models and 1 Bravo. Seems like we're going to have a great turnout!!
  15. Mark, Thanks for that reply. I hope I didn't offend you. I was just noting what I've noticed looking at Flightaware and it makes perfect sense now. I was not aware however, that you could get the fuel flows down that low in the Missile. Even in "my" J running LOP I run about 9.3 gph with a TAS of around 155 kts. So I could literally move up to the Missile or "O", get TKS and it's only going to cost me approx. $10 more in fuel per hour than my J and get another 5 kts min on top of that? Is that true? That's extremely tempting! Seth do you run LOP? Are you seeing the same numbers? Mark you've had the plane less than a year. Do you just not like it or is it not what you thought it would be?
  16. I really like that setup! Thank you for posting the pictures. I'll have to check out my ceiling and see where something like that might work for the front and rear.
  17. That's awesome and was precisely the solution I was looking for. Can you post a picture?
  18. Im 90% and will more than likely be there early. Chris i hope you show as i want to see that Aspen first hand. And Im on vacation so i wasnt working today. Chad (our new Mooney member) is filling in for me.
  19. Nope Mike I was thinking of something on the ceiling like the Cirrus has.
  20. Does anybody have a set of headset hangers either mfg'd or homemade installed in their Mooney? I hang my Halo's on the hand mic on the pilot side but the other headsets really get in the way during passenger loading and unloading. Just think it would be nice to have a set of hangers that keep them up and out of the way. Ideas's?
  21. I've looked at upgrading to an O and I will at some point (more for the TKS than anything). I've also seen this Missle on here but looking at past flight plans I don't see that big of a performance boost.......well as far as the flight tracking anyhow. I know they can be off but it routinely shows 150 ground speed. What kind of fuel burns are you seeing to get that speed? Seth? I know yours is fast but does the TKS come with a big speed penalty?
  22. I currently use Zululog but I think I'll check Into this one. I remember when they announced it but had forgotten all about it. If its Fltplans it has to be good right? Thanks Doc
  23. You forgot v2 + 20 ;-)
  24. Once you have your airplane and you finally get the maintenance under control (the airplane to a level of airworthiness you feel comfortable with) then the costs are quite reasonable. I could take a guess at a usual $2000-3000 annual with another $2K during the year for incidentals. However there is always something else you want to do to "your" airplane. Its kinda like your home. The projects are NEVER done!!! Im still working on that first part..............well thats what i tell the wife. "darling we wont be spending nearly as much just as soon as we do this one last thing"
  25. I think the accelerated course is a great way to go and just as others have mentioned its the experience that will really count. Once you have your ticket you can call on the local instructors to go with you until you feel comfortable. Some of the most fun i had flying was "baby stepping" into what i felt comfortable flying in while IMC.
