  1. I am all for it. We are looking to get the real 201 MPH from the M20J. SO far, it has gone from 183 to 186.

  3. We have those lower wrap baffles and a wedge intercylinder baffle as well. CHT even with brand new seals etc can still get above 365 f.
  4. 60k can come real close to getting an early 201. With it, the longer fuselage, improved instrument panel, and fuel injection (LOP!) .
  5. Quote: scottfromiowa By the way don't you just love your Mooney? Aren't Mooney's the best airplane ever? Don't you wish everyone had such a great plane? I sure do LOVE my Mooney....and everyone else that fly them because well they are just better, no make that BEST. By best I mean safest, cleanest, sexiest, best smelling, best tasting smartest airframe ever. Why do they even make other planes when there are Mooney's?
  6. Old G-35 has wingnuts that go on the studs. The new Concorde has M8 bolts. So just use the supplied bolts?
  7. We just bought a Concorde RG35AXC battery but it does not have the studs made into it like the Gill G-35. It is tapped for a bolt. Can I buy studs to put in the battery, or use bolts? Who else has done this?
  8. put a 1 gallon ziploc or other plastic bag over the filter, and turn slowly until it begins to drip, then shove the bag on real far and spin it fast.
  9. I also drain the oil cold. W100 takes 2-3 days for a quart to run out of the engine into the pan. This can be seen by the rising oil levels after 2-3 day sitting. At least we drain more of it out than after it is run.
  10. If you have a filter and change the oil every 23-30 hours its like topping the tanks and pumping an additional 5 gallons on the ground. It may not harm anything, but that money can be better spent on things that do increase the life and safety of your airframe.
  11. Funny thing I noticed is ther staunchest critics of bladders, LOP, or running oversquare have never tried it. Their trusted 30 year A&P told them that bladders burst, LOP and oversquare burns up cylinders and they believe it. BeechTalk is another good forum. People don't call each other socialists, liberals, or stupid. They also have some Bonanzas that have 2000 hours SMOH running LOP, oversquare, and pulling large amounts of power off. Its good reading. They tend to believe data there, not some admonition from an A&P.
  12. Ah hah. an 89 cent fix. Those are the best!
  13. For us at low altitude, on a stock 201, is full throttle at sea level full rich nets 335 CHT at 17.5 or 18 GPH. leaning slightly nets 380 or more, saving 1/2 GPH. Going to the lean side, it must be at 10 GPH or less to keep CHT below 380
  14. Try safe tying the prop governor stop screw!
  15. Cheap tip: torque filter to 18 ftlb and mark it. Torque to 20, safety then back off to 18. Safety wire is now taut.

  17. 3/8 id rubber fuel or vacuum hose from the auto parts store about 3 ft will do. Just push and turn 1/4 turn to the right to lock open. That's it !

  19. If the prop only required minor dressing it's not classified as a prop strike. Says so right there in the service bulletins. Further, if you are worried the crank was over stressed which is made of steel and strong enough to lever a 737 off the ground perhaps you should have the prop overhauled as well with blades replaced, as they are aluminum.
  20. I wonder how an out of round front seal boss made it out of the overhaul shop. It would have to be hella out of round to leak. Either they measured every dimension or they didn't. That makes me wonder about everything else in your overhaul. That's what you pay them 23k for, to get it right.
  21. It would be easy to put nutplates behind the spinner. Parts catalog I think shows screws there. Jim, can you check if it's fixed or floating nut plates on your upper boot cowl?
  22. Snake oil. Any data? Show us the data.
  23. It is 4 machine screws behind the spinner and two more on the firewall toward the bottom.
  24. Its no more harmful than filling the tanks and then pumping ten gallons on the ground after. Just unnecessary. Check out VAF forums and beechtalk. It's been covered many times. 25 hours is a holdover from the days before oil filters. Engines only had screens which clogged with carbon.
  25. Every 25 hours is a waste. Plus you start up your engine with an empty filter every 25 hours. Cowl fasteners get cycled and things get disturbed twice as often. We have oil analysis at 55 hours that shows the oil is clean. Also google aero shell 15w50. Most lycomings that have cams fail were running aero shell 15w50. Synthetic blend oil has no business in a lycoming.
