  1. I always think of the scene from the film "Apollo 13" where the co2 dial is increasing. While the space that they were confined to was not tremendous, who would think that simply exhaling would actually cause their own deaths? Thankfully the techno-dweebs on the ground put their heads together to come up with a workable solution.
  2. I can say emphatically, with 100% confidence that the intensity has increased over the past few decades. Absolutely, and thinking otherwise is being disingenuous. As you are well aware (or should be), sea temperatures are the fuel and the increase has had a direct impact. You point to the "deadliest" being in 1900, but did you ever give any thought to the fact that other than watching a barometer plunge there was no way of knowing one was approaching? Floridian's like myself start gluing our eyes to the screen the moment the National Hurricane Center spots a thunderstorm forming off the west coast of Africa. Walk a mile in my shoes and you may just change your mind.
  3. Some of your questions could be answered by my fellow Floridian's who are paying 5 digit homeowners insurance premiums. I consider myself lucky in only paying high 4 figures for a three year old house that is built like a fortress to weather any storm that nature can throw at it.
  4. This does not qualify as an answer to my question because it hasn't been proven to be true (yet). What I was looking for are long held conspiracy theories that proved to be actually true. For example, if the CIA was found to have been behind the JFK assassination, or that little green men were found to have landed in Roswell. Those would have satisfied my question.
  5. Sounds about right.
  6. I'm not trying to bait you, but I am curious about conspiracies that turned out to be true. Can you list a few? My personal favorite is the moon landing never happened.
  7. Very much true, but this story will eventually go away. Hourly coverage of the border will not. Breaking news, Fox settled with Dominion for $787 million. I just tuned into Fox to see how they would spin it and they did. Neil Cavuto (who I watch and like a lot) read a statement and said that "Fox admits to no wrongdoing and acknowledges the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false". $787 million ain't chump change.
  8. For those conspiraciasmists out there, let me be the first to break the news to you that Fox is being sued by Dominion Voting Systems and the trial started today. The trial has something to do with Fox not reporting all of the facts that it knew were to be true about the 2020 election. Fox hasn't uttered a single word about this over the past 18 months (and employees were forbidden to mention it), so there was absolutely no way of you knowing about it. But do not fret because they are still reporting on the situation at the border at the top of each hour.
  9. I actually have. I feed the GTN 750 Winds/TAS utility with the required data (ie, CAS, Baro) using the temp from the trusty old factory OAT and the calculated wind/speed is very close to that of the GI 275. It's not always identical due to difficulty getting an accurate reading from the old pointer.
  10. Interesting subject. I have a GI 275 ADI and the OAT probe is mounted in the NACA scoop. Reading responses on the subject led me to believe that there would be a huge difference in temperature readings, which worried me because I love the wind speed and direction display that the -275 affords me. Now here's the rub, when landing I always compare the towers (or AWOS) wind speed and direction and the -275 agrees exactly with what is reported, even when the sun is shining on the probe. If the OAT was inaccurate, I would expect the display to be way off, but it isn't. Maybe OAT isn't a factor in the air data computer calculation?
  11. I think I'm the only other person here with you. For the past decade I've been fascinated by the sheer number of MS members that lean towards the right. It may be that left leaning members just don't post, but based on the content here, I would say 95% of contributors are conservative. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  12. Ah, you meant that you "disengage" the A/P.
  13. Surely you must be joking.
  14. I had pretty much the identical problem last year, delayed retraction and ultimately, no retraction. This occurred a few weeks before annual and had it investigated at that time. In the end it turned out to be the relay pack. The factory gave a lead time of six months for a new one, but after calling several Mooney service centers nationwide I was able to locate one, ironically, 10 miles from me. Hopefully your situation is different because the cost will give you a coronary.
  15. Is it really worth $165k? My '83 has just about the same amount of total time and 275 hours SMOH with new cylinders, plus a GTN 750, GI 275 ADI and KAP 150. I wouldn't have estimated its value anywhere near that. Maybe I just don't know the current market?
  16. I knew there had to be a simple explanation. Thanks for the tip!
  17. Correct, 750 Classic.
  18. I flew the plane for the first time since the GTN 750 was upgraded to the latest release, 6.72. While the unit works just fine, I was put-off to see my "own-ship" is now displayed as magenta, not white. Anybody else experience this?
  19. ++1 for Mr. Elliott.
  20. I think I bought it from you soon after your original post.
  21. Which was going to be my follow up question.
  22. For the carrier jocks out there.. do modern fighters have the ability to perform a totally automated landing on a carrier deck?
  23. Not sure those features justify the $6k investment however.
  24. My partners and I have discussed it and no sale. The only benefit we would derive is a brighter screen, which has never been an issue for us.
  25. Other than brighter display and faster processor, is there any difference in functionality?
