  1. http://www.chiefaircraft.com/airsec/Avionics/MfgAI/BendixKing4.html the bezels and lens are sold new ... the lens is what you want. Expensive for a small tiny piece of plastic
  2. '77 J
  3. it is connected to the outside not to the "icebox" cooling box. I need to check if it is pointing to the flux capacitor.
  4. Anyone knows wht the tube in the attached picture is for ? looks like a vent.
  5. I bought my J from AAA in 2003. Happy with the transaction and happy with my plane. :-)
  6. i believe 25 is at the bottom of the triangular tab add 7 gallons and it will get you to a full tank (about an inch below the cap)
  7. just saying that avionics / panel have been advancing much faster than powerplants and airframes. I understand that's how technology goes sometimes. Not a perfect world. I fly to go somewhere rather than to look at my my panel. What I have on the panel is only there to help me get there safely. Else, i would just configure flight simulator with the avionics I want.
  8. what I would want in an engine ? just like what the airlines got: more power, less fuel as they go from 4 or 3 to 2 engines. VOR/RNAV and Loran are/were bullet proof.
  9. just wishing there was as much technology progress on the powerplant side as there is on the pannel side to keep a certain balance. We still fly behind piston engines developped several decades ago.
  10. I did not say Garmin was the culprit. I did not say they did or did not deserve to make a profit. They are in the business to make a profit and it is good for them if they do. I am sure their marketing team understands how to market and price their products. I am not sure I would be crying over their margin if I knew what it was. A WAAS upgrade on an old GNS430 is $3000. Turning now to installers/shops, it is frustrating not knowing upfront what the final cost was going to be. Also, I have not always been happy with the collateral damage done during an install (like cable mess behind the panel and broken plastic).
  11. last time I checked, Garmin was not in the non-profit category. Why wouldn't they charge as much as the traffic can bear ? In my view their purchase of ups a few years back (around 2003 if I can recall) was not a good thing for the cosummer down the road.
  12. In the future, we may be pushed into bulk purchasing. Could be good to have a "parts of interest" section in tis space.
  13. I believe it is called the Latch/Storm Window P/N: 917013-000 probably avaialable at a MSC or try to google the number
  14. much will depends on where you want to install the receiver and how much space you have there. The KNS 80 is great but uses a lot of space. You may want to consider a KLN-89B or 90B (about 1500 or less used). Those are IFR units. The installation cost will to a large extent determine the total cost. Could end up staying under 2500 if you can find a shop willing to install for less than 1 amu Wonder why many chose to stay with antique avionics in the panel and handheld
  15. every 50 hours, with filter opening and UOA. I was wondering if some one could describe how to access the oil screen. It is a pain in the a.. to reach and have refrained from opening it so far.
  16. there is prop specific paint. I believe the prop is supposed to be painted at every annual.
  17. procedure is described in the service manual. You indeed need to remove an access panel in the belly.
  18. I have been using a Concord 35XC and no probelm at all with good cranking I use a battery minder.
  19. Probably best to hoist the engine AND tie down the tail (with very simple hardware and a sandbag or 2) Good point about climbing in the plane while it is on jacks In any case, lifting is a 2 persons job.
  20. I guess i could attach one of those pulley / chain on the steel beam of the hangar. would save space and easy to install if I can find one. Anyone know if we can that at Home Depot or Kragen ?
  21. does that mean lifting the front using the hook on top of the engine ? where do I get one of those cherry picker ?
  22. Any suggestion for a yoke frame jack to lift the nose ? I understand MAC do not recommend tying down the tail (although they do not forbid doing it if needed)
  23. it is what the market can bear. I mentionned this already in a previous post: I was sad to see how Oshkosh was dominated by electronic toys makers like Garmin, Aspen, etc ... (I don't think Apple was there) instead of airframes, engines and prop OEMs
  24. The natural addition to a Century IIB would be the S-Tec 60PSS (adds Atl hold, VS and GS). I am not sure they still make it. The combo works very well for me.
  25. Very simple question: If a used PFD equipment is airworthy and does not require any repairs, how much will it cost me to have Aspen allow me to transfer the STC I purchased to someone else ?. I respect Aspen (and every OEM) choice of how they want to run their business. I only need to understand the value (and depreciation) of what I am buying.
