  1. Maybe the glass tail light lens that has the same format was the one I saw on that Mooney wingtip. Do you have a part number ?
  2. Luc I went through the same exercise .... I am thinking your J has a serial number somewhere between 24-0024 and 24-1037 the lens is made of plastic and is Mooney part 202816. If you have a parts catalog, it will be in section 57-20-00. You will not find a Whelen part number beacause Wheelen does not make that part. The Wheelen STC that for the A650 system includes all similar "flat wing tip" models but does not include the J. I will let you decide why it is that way. Only Mooney makes it. Please, don't pass out at the price for a small piece of plastic. You would nee a field approval to install the A650 system. If you look at early Js, you will see that their lens is always opaque, ocre looking and cracked. If / when you change the lens, it will become opaque very quickly ... fun ...!!! So might as well order a few in advance. I saw once a Mooney that has that exact lens made of glass and I wish the owner was near so I could ask him how did he get a glass lens replacement. I was never able to find one. Sorry for using a bit sarcastic tone today.

  4. most of the paint off I have seen is near on LEFT wing root and on the left stabilizer must have something to do with the prop wash ??? I used the tape at some point and it works great at protecting the surface. It is easy to apply but it is a struggle to cut and apply without leaving finger marks. Also, you will need solvent when you want to remove it as it leaves hard to remove glue (kind of like duct tape)
  5. ok thanks. that works. When I take water, it is usually in a (capped) bottle rather than a cup.
  6. I have seen a lot of discussion on cup holders and wondering what I am missing. What does a cup holder brings as far as "cockpit management" goes ?. Are you realling looking at having a cup of coffee or glass of water there ?Or what am I missing ?
  7. Another reason to let the fed be involved is the need to have a universal fuel we can find anywhere including Canada, Mexico and the rest of the world for those with longer legs.
  8. I would be thinking that follow up for Garmin or King wouyld be a unit that is a combination of GPS + WAAS + ADS-B out and in Slide in replacement would be perfect. I hope it is doable and that I am not the first one to have thought about it.
  9. looking forward to the STC. Talking to Wheelen recently (Oshkosh), I think heat dissipation was the main issue with LED systems but that they had a good grip on it. looking forward to an STC that covers all Mooneys.
  10. Do I understand correctly that the Galactica wing tip position/strobe light does not require a strobe power supply box ? could be a great option when those old hoskins box break.
  11. Having the possibility to upgrade the position / strobe lights on the "square" wing tips Mooneys would be great. The A650 was never STC'ed for Js as Mooney developped its own plastic lens strobe light (most have noticed how it looks yellow, opaque and uggly on most early J's). Hopefully Aveo will provide the option.
  12. Good afternoon I have an FSM 5000 Loran installed and .... now in a permanently turned off position. Any thought on what it would take to upgrade that with a GPS sensor ? (beyond the need for a new antenna at the top) Thanks
  13. No question that the KX-155 is a great Nav-Com: proven , sturdy , simple to use, reliable (more than a Garmin from my experience) and still great looking. I have a KX-155 and have no intention of trading it for anything else. However, if cost is an issue, you should look at TKM radio http://www.bennettavionics.com/mx170b.html You will save yourself quite a bit of $$$ with the rewiring you would have to do with the KX-155 as it is a slide in replacement and it costs a lot less than a KX-155. I have no experience with it though and indeed it uses more space than a KX-155.
  14. Sven I believe you are looking for a slide in replacement com with 760 channels instead of 720 channels What kind of radio do you have ? is it a King KX-170 ? In which case a TKM MX-170B could work.
  15. Chief aircraft sell them and they used to be around $70 - $80. The Chief web site does not list price anymore and you need to call them to get a quote
  16. that's a very good one. thanks for pointing to it. I believe I may have seen it before but did not realize it existed with lighting as well. thanks !!
  17. With time (30+ years), the plastic has become more brittle and cracked while being taken out. There is no hole but it does not look good. I had in mind of cutting (straight line / square shape) the part that was cracked and replacing it.
  18. Anyone has a tip on how to repair a glareshield ? '77 J model. Mine is cracked behind the post (after the numerous times it has been been taken out) Any source for the same type of platic that could be used to make a patch ?? Thanks !!
  19. Anyone flying to the Reno Air Race at Stead ? what is the best way to get / fly there ?
  20. flew over 88NV or Black Rock City aka Burningman Very nice view from 10,000 feet but i did not have the guts to land. Maybe another year. Then to Carson city for a early dinner.
  21. I can't really see the fuel leak. (on the gear door maybe ???) Anyway, price looks low considering even considering the thin market for an N registered aircraft in France. very basic aircraft though without a basic A/P. Most 77 J model, I believe, were equipped with a Century IIB
  22. The shop in Gnoss filed did A/P work on a friends Cessna and he was happy with it. Easy drive from the bay area since that's a consideration
  23. Thanks. I will look next time the dash is off
  24. I (think) I know where most items are but I have trouble seeing where the voltage regulator is in an early J model Anyone has an idea where it is located ?
  25. how much would the installation cost ? very little space left inside a J cowling. how can you add a TN !!!
