  1. The one for $155K has had one gear-up 6 years ago. Chuck M.
  2. There was another list of rules for pilots back then. One of them proscribed wearing spurs while flying. Chuck M.
  3. Sounds like you're a novice in the tax deductions arena. I would consult a tax specialist, like a CPA, to learn more about the whole shebang. None of the things you mentioned have any relevance. Simplistically (very): Your % of flying time spent on the business must be > 60%. Multiply that percentage times the money you spend directly on the airplane and your required training and any other required expenses. Take that result and subtract it from your business entity's gross revenue. Report that result to the IRS. I'm not a CPA, but business school covered some of this stuff... Chuck M.
  4. Quote: rob Where do you see 1880 SMOH?
  5. 1880 SMOH, so that's one reason. Off-field landing, plus a gear-up, so that's two reasons. Chuck M.
  6. Quote: Shadrach "CHTs will tell the story as OATs will not be warm enough to not mask what's going on in the combustion chamber..." FIFY. Chuck M.
  7. Quote: Magnum Don't fly at peak, even with 65% or below. I burned my exhaust system within 150hrs flying at peak (the flame tubes in the muffler were gone). Quote: jetdriven Also, logic says 50 LOP is the exact same as 50 ROP so I do not know why the flame tubes are burned away in your muffler, EGT is EGT. ROP or LOP. He wrote PEAK, not 50 LOP. Chuck M.
  8. Fastbyk - Where did you uncover that info? Chuck M.
  9. PK - Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with AAA. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you did not do your deal with David McGee. If you had, your experience prob. would have been much better. Chuck M.
  10. I'm guessing Walter winters in Naples, FL, and goes back to Onekama in the summer. Probably retired, lots of money. Maybe just wants to unload the plane quickly. Chuck M.
  11. Quote: Kwixdraw So you're saying the sleazy place in Florida contracted with AirMod in Ohio to do the work that they installed? AirMod in Ohio is packin' a pretty good reputation and has done quite a few of the AOPA's sweepstake airplanes because of the quality of their work. Are any of you Danes 'cause this is starting to fail the sniff test for me.
  12. Quote: rturbett ... Skywarrior, have you spoken to the real Randall Sims? I am sure he is aware, but it would be good to be sure. I know Trade a plane was contacting him as well. If you have his number, please feel free to pm me. thanks, Rob
  13. Recommend you look for a local computer shop that will build to order and be there if something breaks. Nothing like proximity. Chuck M. Addendum: Just looked at the iBuyPower.com site. My son would love them. (That's not a compliment.) I would stay away.
  14. Just spoke with THE REAL Mrs. Sims. She was VERY intrigued by all this. She said that Trade-a-Plane had already called the house and left a message for her husband to call them. She told them that he will call WHEN HE RETURNS HOME FROM WORK. So, he's not "in Red Sea". My guess is that Sims had this plane's pictures available somewhere and the scammer just put them to good use. Everything else is public record. Chuck M.
  15. Might be a leak of the front crankshaft seal. Chuck M.
  16. Quote: danb35 Technically, you're right--no state can require you to pay sales tax on a purchase made outside the state (whether the Internet is involved makes no difference). However, they can (and do) require you to pay use tax on items used in the state, which happens to be the same rate as sales tax.
  17. The press release answers most of your questions... Chuck M.
  18. yep... Georgia hit me for 7% of sale price... Chuck M.
  19. Tell ya what... just make it simple for yourself and hoof on over to AAA in San Antonio and find one from Jimmy and David's inventory. No TX sales tax for you. They were very up front with me, and I got a great bird at a good price. And no B.S. You can hire someone to help bring it back home for you or one of Jimmy's staff can deliver it to you. Chuck M. 20. I agree that a lot of really good advice has been offered, and I do appreciate it. I'll keep an eye on the ASI - ya never know... A problem I *do* know of is that my stall warning goes off at weird times, usually in the pattern, at speeds sometimes as high as 90 knots, if there is any bumpiness. My instructor asks me to fly at 83 knots on final just to make sure we don't get a stall warning. I don't like that idea, but I do see where he's coming from; i.e., you don't want to make a habit of ignoring the stall horn. Chuck M.
  21. George - Be sure you get down to King's restaurant in Tamuning for some eggs and fried rice with chorizo sausage. Chuck M.
  22. Interesting FlightAware plot. Apparently, that pilot needed a refresher on VFR altitudes... Chuck M.
