  1. Hello, all - Still trying to master my new beast (M20M). On takeoff roll, I have max right rudder trim dialed in, plus I press on the right rudder pedal. We barrel down the runway, tracking along fairly straight. So far, so good. At 60 kts, I pull back slightly to lighten the nose. Immediately, the aircraft starts heading for the infield grass. I push harder on the right rudder pedal, without much noticeable effect. Do I need to just press *even more* ?? I don't *think* that I'm touching the left brake. It's unsettling that I can't get it to do what I want it to do. Chuck M.
  2. Same thing happened to me on a recent trip. While still in the run-up pit, I leaned a bit to dry off the plug(s), then re-did the mag check, which was then within limits. OK, *now* I believe in leaning while taxiing. Chuck M.
  3. Quote: Skywarrior But, if you're determined to get a turbo model, get a 252 or a TLS Bravo. The automatic wastegate in either of those planes is a great feature that a "K" does not have. -------- Many do have the Merlyn... OK, then. I had been told that by a former MAC test pilot. Chuck M.
  4. Finally... a subject I know something about... Your avg. mission profile sounds very "J"-ish. I wouldn't even look at a turboed Mooney. Put the extra money toward your maintenance fund. As I just discovered, a Mooney has so much more performance than supposed competitors that you can easily over-buy, thinking that you *need* to. But, if you're determined to get a turbo model, get a 252 or a TLS Bravo. The automatic wastegate in either of those planes is a great feature that a "K" does not have. Chuck M.
  5. You said you have already purchased the glass, but I am concerned about darkened windows in a plane. Chuck M.
  6. Have to chime in... If there was ever a time to invest (yes, I said invest) in a Mooney, this is it. I just bought a very nice bird that I would not have otherwise been able to afford, simply because of the recession. But, buyer enthusiasm for Mooneys has already started to pick back up... this is no time to wait. Chuck M.
  7. Hope I'm not assuming too much here, but I would guess that the A/C in question has not been flown much since 1993. Chuck M.
  8. Flying with an instructor to son's wedding in Kentucky. Will be interesting to see what the weather is... "Stationary front to the left of me, Earl to the right, Here I am..." Chuck M.
  9. Quote: Dan My training is over and I am looking forward to do some flying. The question is now what to do.. buy a Mooney, buy a slow Cessna and build some time, rent a slow Cessna. I am a bit hesitant now to buy a low wing complex aircraft right out of the gate. My CFII has recommended a C172 as a first airplane to build some time. I wonder about this and wonder what others think of this idea. I would also keep whatever I buy in a grass strip (for the summer months) which is not flat. There are bumps and slight hills and at times the C150 I fly kind of jumps up a bit when I hit these. Not sure the Mooney gear would like this so much. I would like to solicit opinions about this. My CFII has a bonanza that lands there and has been for years and years. He and others who fly it have no issues landing there. What to do... Dan
  10. Hi, Dan - If you can afford to base your new plane at Hayward, then go for a Mooney. You will tire of a relatively slow plane very quickly. If you use your new plane for business, you will appreciate being able to bring prospects to see a boat without the trip taking forever, and forcing an overnight stay for them. If you plan to use that grass strip a lot, you will be risking takeoff/landing accidents, because of the gear. If you need to cross the Sierras, you'll need a plane that can go high, and still have enough climb ability, once there, to overcome downdrafts, etc. If you just want to leisurely sightsee over central/northern California, and don't want a lot of speed, something like a 172 will be fine. Chuck M.
  11. Hello, all - First, I must say that his list has been extremely helpful to me as I embarked on airplane ownership. I thank you all for that. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I need a Mooney-familiar instructor to fly with me Sat. Sept. 4th to KY and back to Atlanta. (My son is getting married.) I don't have enough time in the seat for my insurance yet. This *might* involve RO1N in KY. The plane is a '91 TLS Bravo.
  12. Thanks kindly for the answers. SkyChartsPro will be unbeatable if they can implement a decent low enroute charting graph--same goes for the VFR charts. Also, once they get geo refrencing on TPP charts that will be a huge advantage. I still have not had the opportunity to test SkyCharts airborne so I have another question for you regarding enroute georefrencing. Any particluar IPAD settings that have to be either enabled or disabled to make it work? If so what are they? Also, what technology is the IPad using to do the airborne georefencing?? I thought WiFi wont and cant work airborne and I already know from my iphone that most of the time you cannott get a 3g signal airborne at altitude. Therefore I am at a complete loss to understand how it could possibly georefrence at altitude. Assuming some function of the Ipad allows for this to work how accurate is it? or will it be one of those things where the airplane symbol appears then consistently dissapears etc? so is there a better GPS system that can be added and would it even be worth it. Yes, lots of questions but all of you have helped me immensely!!! The iPad has its own GPS antenna, in the "3G" model. The georeferencing uses only GPS and the stored charts inside the iPad. Chuck M.
  13. I need to look closely at my existing conguration. It *looks* like I'm sliding over the tops of nice, receptive, existing holes that are just *waiting* to embrace the seat's plungers. But the seat just slides over them. I asked the broker what was going on, and he said that those 'holes' I see are not really holes, they're just 'starter' holes. They need to be fully drilled out. That doesn't make any sense to me. I just don't know what the hell is going on, frankly. I am obviously very short of knowledge about Mooney seats. But, I simply cannot fly this plane until I secure that seat in a further-aft position. Chuck M.
  14. Hello, all (again) - I gotta sit farther back in my plane - the control wheel hits my left leg, so I can't turn left. Also, my feet press on the brakes, and I can barely operate the rudder without tapping the brakes. I've already nearly crashed the plane on takeoff once because of that. Was told I need to have an A&P drill out the holes at the rear end of the seat rail. ????? It looks like holes are already there, to me. Are these holes only partially drilled through? ??????? Chuck M.
  15. Ask your instructor to put you through 2 simulated checkrides - tough ones. You'll appreciate it later. For the Oral, remember that the examiner is looking for FAR/AIM knowledge, of course, but REALLY wants to hear good judgement. Good luck, Chuck M.
  16. Er, umm, yeah, my wife mentioned that, too. Chuck M.
  17. Hello, all - Sat in my new-to-me Mooney for the first time, and found that I am just slightly out of headroom while wearing my David Clamps. I need a headset that has nearly nothing on the top of my head. What do you all think about the Clarity Aloft headset (no ANR)? Are there any ANR "Madonna mike" headsets out there? I simply cannot wear any headset that has anything on the top of my head (I'm 6' 4"). Thanx, Chuck M.
  18. RJBrown is Randy Brown. Randy owns a 201. Chuck M.
  19. Randy - All American Aircraft currently has two Rockets for sale. Chuck M.
  20. I had eyed the Icom AC-14. I saw it for $200. Looked like a lot of bang for the bux, and it had glowing reviews on the site. Anyone else heard anything about it? Chuck M.
  21. Hello, All - Need help picking a handheld radio. Opinions? Recommendations? Models to avoid? Thanx, Chuck M.
  22. Gary: Si, mucho dinero. Chuck M.
  23. Quote: OR75 A slightly different question ... I wonder what parts a Mooney owner must keep in stock
  24. Nobody has to know it's your name!
  25. Sunglasses! Good point. I need a pair. Any recommendations? And do polarized lenses really mess up your view of, say, a GNS-530? Chuck M.
