  1. +1 I got back an inch of headroom in my bird, since no thick pad over the top. My head used to be jammed against the headliner. Chuck M.
  2. Well, you all have brought up a subject that vexes me. I have a '91 Bravo with the Monroy LR tanks. I *never* know how much fuel I really have. My best effort is to smear chicken's blood on the panel fuel gauge, mutter an incantation, and hope for the best. Anybody have good tips for knowing how much fuel a plane like mine actually has? Chuck M.
  3. The Bob & Tom radio show once did a bit abut a GPS Navigation system for autos that was very similar to a GPMS. It was called the "Nagigator". "Why didn't you take that last exit?" Etc. Chuck M.
  4. More people are getting outside and taking advantage of annual vacation time, or they see Fall approaching and feel pressed to make use of the Summer that remains. I bet some of these peole have not flown in a good while, but feel time pressure to "get some use out of that thing" before the weather changes. You gotta be honest with yourself, and slow yourself down when you sense that you are responding to self-imposed pressure. You can call it 'GetHomeitis", or "GottaGetThereBeforeTheFuelPumpCloses", or be like the twin-engine pilot a couple weeks ago who was trying to get to Louisiana late on Saturday night so he wouldn't miss Sunday church services the next morning - and obliterated the entire 7-person family when he ran out of gas enroute. If you're rushing, for whatever reason, sit down and ask yourself what is going to happen if you *don't* rush. If you're honest, you'll probably realize that the world isn't gonna end if you don't get there at the speed of heat. You won't find yourself in a bind if you leave yourself an out to begin with. Chuck M.
  5. We justifiably brag about how our Mooneys are built tough. But, the people in the Winslow accident apparently died of massive head trauma after the plane rolled over and landed on the roof. So, keep the oily side down... Chuck M.
  6. Try looking here: http://www.hweckhardt.com/engfasteners/selfretaining.htm
  7. Silly little 'dumb' mistakes can nevertheless get someone KILLED. I lost FIFTEEN friends during one overseas tour due to 'dumb mistakes'. I would have chewed his ass out right there, and reported his actions to the club mgr. Aviation is not a game. It can be very deadly. I've already attended too many funerals. Chuck M.
  8. For reasonable money, look at a Bravo. A bit more legroom in the rear seats, LOTS of baggage compartment room. With the mods my Bravo has, my Max Gross is just shy of 1000#. With, say, 70 gallons of fuel, you have about 570# lbs. of payload left. You can plan for 20-23 gph avg over a trip if you like to go fast. But remember, you'll be doing 185+ KTAS at altitude. If you pull back on the money knob, you can go slower, but burn less fuel per hour. Your choice. Chuck M.
  9. Not working in IE 7.
  10. Jimmy used MS Word to compose his post, and the Word metadata has messed up that thread's HTML. Can you un-f*** it?
  11. allsmiles: "There is nothing else to the story!" Yes, there is more to the story, Peter. Chuck M.
  12. I wanna see a picture of that kid.
  13. Parker - This hangar is owned by a real estate developer, but the land is the county's (county airport). FBO has a totally separate operation. This would be a 'personal' hanger, bunched next to about 15 other hangars.
  14. Quote: tony Chuck is Peggy asking for that?
  15. Hello, all - Want to move to a new airport to get a better hangar - one that's not water-soaked. The new hangar's owner wants me to show proof of Liability insurance. No problem, I say. He says it has to name him as an additional insured. Again, I say no problem. My aircraft insurer is willing to add the hangar's owner as an additional insured, but will not agree to a Waiver of Abrogation. I don't know if the hangar owner will agree to this. Anybody else dealt with this liability issue? Any recommendations? Chuck M. Douglasville, GA
  16. Me too. I've nearly departed the runway a couple of times due to this. Chuck M.
  17. Lycoming Service Instruction: SI-1462A Prop Oil Control Leak Test Chuck M.
  18. Hmmm... the events between the first gear-down event and the gear-no-workee event were a touchdown and a successful retraction (I'm assuming). (If you're a Monty Python & The Holy Grail fan, you'll appreciate this.) "So...logically..." ...something about either the landing or the subsequent retraction is probably associated with the root cause of this. Like, maybe the landing impact (even as baby-soft as I'm certain it was) shook something loose. Heck, it may even be something as small as a loose wire or a bad gear switch on the panel. Please update all of us when you discover the cause. Chuck M.
  19. Try again: Chuck M.
  20. Can't help it - I just like it better. Chuck M.
  21. Parker - My panel is all-white (well, UV-faded to a light beige). I really love that color in the cockpit. Jus' sayin' Chuck M.
  22. Yet another example of how poorly the Customer Service Call Center function is implemented in American (at least) businesses. Peter seems to be a "good guy", but that doesn't prevent one of his call center employees from giving out wrong info. It's great that you got a pleasant resolution to your question, but why did it have to be that way in the first place? Why did you have to suffer so much angst, and spend so much energy seeking a better resolution? Because call center people do not have all of the information they need, and they probably also don't have enough training. Business owners, please - do it right, or don't even bother. There... I said it. So there. Chuck M.
  23. Odds are the Fuel Servo is involved in some way. Or maybe fuel pump? Chuck M.
  24. The aircraft is owned by Anthony Enterprises, Inc. If that is Anthony Bruno's holding company, then the owner has plenty of cash, because of his business's recent success, and he may feel he can afford to sit on it. Owner is Michael Anthony, who owns several businesses around Boca, including food service establishments, real estate and a horse farm. The reality, though, is that t This a/c will deteriorate if not flown, especially in the Boca heat and humidity. Chuck M.
  25. My wife used to flinch whenever she rode in a car with me. I asked why. "You get too close to the other cars! I'm afraid you're going to hit them!" Fair enough. I modified my driving habits (a bit, let's not get carried away, now) to help her out. After I got my PPL, I asked her if she wanted to go fly with me. She assented, and the flight was wonderful - she enjoyed the sightseeing and the thrill of it all. When we got back home, I asked her how it was that she is so nervous riding with me in a car, but so calm in an airplane. "There's nobody else up there for you to run into!" Whatever works... Chuck M.
