  1. This one might have a bit too much liability for me to want to make it owner produced.
  2. Hi bmcconnaha, I’m still not sure if I’m going to proceed with this project. I don’t know if I want to do anymore FAA/PMA parts at least right now while the FAA are still working from home due to Covid restrictions for them. I’m still waiting on a call back from them on an MEL and LOA’s for my full time job. It’s almost impossible to get anything done in a timely manner right now. Thanks, David
  3. Happy to send you a copy of it. My e-mail is sabremech@gmail. Thanks, David
  4. Like Don said, makes it harder for mice to climb in. They might help with noise a bit by controlling airflow in the wheel wells better and keeping air out. Just my thoughts though. David
  5. I haven’t advanced with this project as of yet. I’ll make contact with the folks who said they had some old springs for me to possibly use for the reverse engineering. Thanks, David
  6. Hi Don, I’m happy to hear the annual went well. The wheel wells were always on my list to do but life got in the way. I’m not surprised about the vent area. Nice to know it just needs to be cleaned up. Thanks. David
  7. Hi Marauder, You are definitely first to get this cowling when the kinks are worked out. I can’t thank you enough for your patience. David
  8. I haven’t installed one of these yet to fly. I was fitting it to the C that I use to own when the fit issue with the top cowling showed. I’m close to having it ready to fix the mold or a new mold made depending on what the composite shop wants to do. I’m ever so hopeful to get the time opened up after the holidays to wrap up my part and turn it back over to the shop. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks, David
  9. Good morning, Its been on the back burner for the last year with life getting in the way and the composite shop having major issues keeping talented mold makers. I picked up the cowling earlier this year and have made the necessary repairs to get the top and bottom cowlings to fit together. I have to get the finish right as I don’t want any mold issues going forward if I can help that from happening. It will happen and I will get them done. I’m hopeful to get a good restart after the first of the year. Thank you. David
  10. Definitely get your A&P, but I can tell you it’s not gravy. It can be fun but it can also be the most stressful thing in your life. Don’t take it lightly. Be serious and methodical in all that you do. Pay attention to minute details. There’s a reason why the A&P field is dwindling, it’s not easy work. David
  11. Just a word of advice on the mobile mechanic thoughts. Many airports have ordnance’s that require you to pay a certain percentage of your invoice if there’s a maintenance shop on the field. It’s not necessarily to dissuade someone from doing mobile maint but to even out the playing field when that shop has a large investment on the airport. Depending on the airport it can become an issue you don’t want to deal with. David
  12. Hello NM Mooney, welcome and best wishes if you proceed with this project. You’ll find plenty of information here. One thing I’m curious of is the $1300 A&P course at your local community college. Something doesn’t sound right but I’ve been proven wrong before. A normal A&P program is 2 years full time studies at a college certified in A&P studies. Can you tell us more about that program? Thanks, David
  13. Good question, but I believe you own it forever. Unlike a patent, you need to hold PMA to make any of the STC parts. Unless it’s written somewhere in the business agreement that they can be sold, they may just become unsupported like the ModWorks STC’s. David
  14. If we thought solely about that, we wouldn’t be involved in anything aviation. David
  15. Thanks much. Will add them to my possible source list if I proceed. David
  16. It doesn’t make it impossible but much harder for me to do a supplier audit every year. Local is the way to go if I find someone near me capable of manufacturing them. David
  17. I have a request to make some more seat cams. If anyone else is interested to get in on this run of parts let me know. e-mail is sabremech at gmail.com Thanks David
  18. That’s a good point although it might be difficult to do. What I would like to know is what models and years of Mooney’s were they installed on? Are there more than one specific Plessey part number of the actuator? Thanks, David
  19. Questions for the group. I’m considering working on an FAA/PMA no back spring for the Plessey actuator. If Mooney is planning to get a run made then it doesn’t make sense for me to duplicate the process. Do we think Mooney will carry through? Should I invest in the time and money to get them made and certified? Thanks, David
  20. Will let you know as soon as I have them. Thanks, David
  21. I will have 20 sets I believe next week as they are out at the powder coaters right now. Thanks, David
  22. I’ll likely have stock next week. Thanks, David
  23. Hi Alan, I might need several old ones just to confirm sizing. I’m also going to have to destroy one for the metal analysis. I do have someone willing to send me one to start the process and I may take you up on your offer just to confirm measurements so that I can return it. Thann you, David
  24. I would go with a PMA on this part due to the critical function of it and knowing that an AP would be skeptical of installing it. Owner produced is more in line with what I’ve done on the gear up and down lock blocks. Thanks, David
