Any work done recently? Radio pulled reinserted? The flag gets a signal through a dedicated wire from the radio. I would look for something obvious there - but would get your friendly avionics specialist looking into it in any case.

I got a quote from planexhaust.net for 525 plus 100 core charge and another from aircraftexhaust.com - theirs was @ 1200 if memory serves but that was for muffler and risers complete. I wound up having mine repaired locally.

Quote: rogerl Installer made a call to local FSDO to confirm that indeed the only certified replacements are for the EGT/CHT functions on these units, confirming others' conclusions on mooneyspace. If one was not interested in having anything as certified for replacement would it be feasable to buy and install the 740 or is that truly just for experimental? Mike

I used the Ram mount as well - though I have the yoke mount I went another direction. After "cleaning up" the right panel I had a lot of clear area, so I mounted a ball base on the upper right side of the right panel. The Ipad or for that matter any other Ram mount fits there nicely. Given the proximity to the audio input it will double as an information platform or an inflight entertainment center for my better half.

Looking things over this afternoon - the right rear riser was loose at the cylinder (looks to be that the washers cracked and disappeared...) but the worse part is that the weld at the stub that goes into the muffler is cracked all around - is this something other members have seen and had repaired - or is it time for a new muffler? Any insight to a great place to buy a muffler or a great place to have the muffler rewelded would be greatly appreciated. Mike

Although I doubt it would not have it done already there is a service bulletin addressing the trim wheel on our vintage birds as well (I own a 66/67 F as well) the SB number is M20-154 - Retrofit of trim wheel sprockets. More than likely it's as others have suggested - a bit of cleaning and lube does wonders. All of the service bulletins can be found at this link http://www.mooney.com/servicepdf/index.php Welcome to the family!! Don't forget to post some Pictures!! Mike

Quote: carusoam Maropers, Look for the thread on this subject. There is an ingenious idea / home-made tool made out of PVC tubing that fits over the fuel selector switch. Al Mooney must have been spry. It wasn't hard to reach when I was in my 30s , but became more difficult for some reason a decade later...... -a-

What was your longest Day? (total flight time)
MARZ replied to scottfromiowa's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Quote: scottfromiowa Maropers. Great Pic. I've got to get reverse on mine too. That would make getting in the hanger a lot easier... -
Quote: DaV8or Anybody know if a vintage Mooney can be upgraded to the larger late model trim wheel? I sat in the Acclaim at the AOPA summit and really liked the bigger wheel.

What was your longest Day? (total flight time)
MARZ replied to scottfromiowa's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Two Long days - both were this year going to OSH from Houston and back - 6.5 up VFR @ 7,500 until Joliet then down under the overcast. Going home was @ 8.25 with head winds and weather diversion into LA then west to TX - VFR 8,500. Both legs involved a fuel stop in Missouri at KUNO. (great little airport by the way) The picture is at KUNO - we backed up a bit to let the copter at the fuel island. A memorable part was flying the I10 corridor in Houston between Bush and Hobby -
Prop/Engine question. 2700 RPM max?
MARZ replied to Capt_CrashN_Burn's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Some calculations based on prop and speed as well as some tables on Speed of sound - basically it looks like the tips of prop at 2700 rpm don't start to approch the speed of sound in our operating environment. Prop/Engine question. 2700 RPM max?
MARZ replied to Capt_CrashN_Burn's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Quote: Capt_CrashN_Burn I don't see where that compensates for altitude though. Temperature is a minor variable compared to elevation. -
