  1. I will do my best to arrange my schedule to meet for lunch on 11/13 or 11/20 1 or 2, Paul N231HY
  2. Okay fellow owners let's not make this a contest on how much we paid as a result of inadaquate prepurchase inspections. I for one am still upset that the first annual two years ago was a lesson in personal finacial management. All that I can ask of all fellow owners is, TAKE CARE OF YOUR AIRCRAFT. We are the caretakers for all future owners. I for one thought the previous owner and mechanic knew what they were doing,(Wrong) . I hope as with all future mooney owners not to screw the next guy with inadaquate maintenance. The guys at Webers( MSC) have been sincere in which items can be defered vs must items. Would you take your Lamoborghini to the ford dealer?.....no. 231HY may not be beautiful, but my continued investment gives me the comfort that when my family flies with me I know she will take me where I ask. Yes, there are a few items which still need addressed that the previous owner neglected or removed such as glareshield lights (Why), Fourth person O2 connection missing(Why) 530W.....new interior......Okay, but she is fast and efficient
  3. Wish me luck. N231HY is in for her second annual as of friday this week at Weber's in Lancaster PA. A great group of mooney guys. I paid for my mistakes during my last annual with an inaccurate prepurchase inspection(Not done by Weber). I will consider last year as my post graduate work in Mooney Science and Engineering. I am excited to think that my wife of 25 years said that if this annual is reasonable I can add a 530W. Of course, I did make sure that I was not standing on a loose rug when she said that. At the same time she has in the past and continues to hint that maybe a malibu or a matrix may work for her. Temptation is an evil mistress.
  4. First off.....Thanks for serving our country, you lucky son of a gun. I can offer no real advise. However, my wife would like me to sell my 231 and move down to a Beech A36 or a light twin. I am wondering what our group is finding with respecst to selling is this market.
  5. My wife and I love the speed and the cross country capabilities. Recent fight to Florida proved to my family that the only way to go is in our own plane. (No pat down or cavity searches) A baron flying V1 northbound never caught me. Cockpit space is great for me at 5"7". The problem is half way to florida my now full size teenage children started to ask for more leg room. My wife wants me to trade the mooney for more, maybe a A36. The last thing I want to do is give up the speed. What's a guy do?
  6. Looking for some help on my next trip to maine. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can pick up a few fresh lobster near an airport in Maine. I want to provide them with a quick trip back to Pennsylvania in my mooney. I am sure they will enjoy the flight as much as I will. Paul
  7. Family vacation in Hawaii has kept me from OSH this year. I hope someone can post a few pictures of the mooneys that get to Oskosh.
  8. Has anyone heard any rumors as to when the KSN770 will be available?
  9. I believe the '79 231 use the same seating components as the 201. I see a run on RAV 4 parts. They look great.
  10. No major problem with gear system to date. Only problems is that gear would not retract due to the fact the rear passanger had kicked the emg gear handle up. Checked handle once before departure, did not figure problem out until landing at my destination one hour later. Long hour with gear down and to make it worse, I was passed by a 182, ugh.
  11. I am in the planning stage to redo the interior of my "79 M20K. Painting the interior is not a very good option due to the number of cracks. I feel covering the interior is the only way to do my mooney the justice she deserves. Does anyone have a resource for fabric covering? In addition, how much material will I need?
  12. Little hot on the east coast today. On departure and in a hurry to get home my TIT peaked at 1650 for a few seconds (I leaned her out too quickly). I immediatly pulled power, full rich and opened the cowl flaps. Cyl temps and oil temps ran normal for the balance of the 20 minute flight. However, the TIT gauge which nomally shows nice smooth temp changes was bouncing all over the place with 200-300 degree temp changes. After landing I allowed for additional cooling. Please share your thoughts.
  13. My 1979 231 has a useful load of 907.35 lbs. Had the mooney weighed and the W&B done at the last annual. The load limit is starting to be a concern, both children are growing fast. I can only off load so much fuel and remain practical. If I can hold out four more years they will both be off to college and then the spouse can take a second pair of shoes.
  14. Bought my first mooney, N231HY last may. I will be the last person to talk you out of a 231. I would highly recommend a prepruchase inspection or even an annual from a moony service center or a mooney expert prior to purchase. I would never suggest a piper or cessna mech is not qualified. However, I fell into the trap a using the resident cessna guy. Bad mistake, my first annual was an education in mooney ownership. Thank god for a understanding wife. Find it, check it out, and buy it as an informed owner. Fly high, fly fast and leave everything but fellow moonies in the dust. Paul
