  1. Fun. Thanks for sharing the link.
  2. THAT is how to buy a vintage Mooney! Well done.
  3. Thanks Marauder...Glad someone got it.
  4. That is a 1000% increase in price in ten years...No new old stock...? What a rip-off...
  5. That is a lot of products...Does that make you a Mooneysexual? Good Mooney grooming is critical. Thankfully no nose or ear hair...
  6. I pulled a Robin's nest four times before she gave up the ghost. She would sit on the deck rail and chirp at me as I told her "Find a tree", My stereo speaker (white) was a muddy poopy mess...
  7. TRUE-When I GUP'D my plane the runway was shutdown. This resulted in FAA/Tower in Cedar Rapids being notified and triggered the FAA actions (check-ride's). The airport is focused on GETTING THE PLANE OFF THEIR RUNWAY. Can you imagine the DOT and local officials AND utilities hyper concern on getting road open/wires/power restored? Your airframe takes a "Backseat" to expediting removal. I am Gld I was there and was pro-active. They would have put a strap around the coowl and tail and lifted it...CAN U IMAGINE THE DAMAGE? I removed cowl and they secured to motormount. We used the tail tie-down to rig another lift point. I assured them that once lifted I could drop and lock the gear...which I did. Easy-peazy to get toed back to the hanger...THAT is a long ride looking back at your wounded bird...knowing you were the culprit. This driver may or may not want to "discuss" his event. I don't think this thread with all the photos is the proper way. I don't ever want to see a photo of my plane on it's belly. Can you imagine seeing the footage of the forklift lifting/dragging your plane? I am done commenting. I stand by what I said. This was NOT the way to do this. Glad no one died. I am more interested in teh pilots condition than how/why at this point.
  8. The plane is overpriced. The online info seemed to suggest very little negotiation on price. The plane should be priced as if it needs a $28k engine overhaul. How old are other accessories? Were all updated with last overhaul? If no, MORE to do those. Center Stack is a mirror of my current avionics. It is fine for VFR as GPS suggests, but will need a costly upgrade to be a solid IFR plane. I would not pay over $33k for this plane in current condition... That said, I spent over $50k for a plane in WAY worse condition ten years ago... My must have's or price deduct accordingly on an M20E would be: -1,000 or less on engine with at least 50 hours flying EVERY year since overhaul. -Tanks resealed or bladders. Even if NOT leaking they WILL. $6500 -Garmin 430W ($15k with head) -Auto Pilot w/altitude hold $10-15k -No corrosion in tubular frame structure, gear wells, spar and wings-DEALBREAKER The rest are details... A plane with these items checked is worth $70k 'cause you will spend that much to get there and you WILL want these things. Start at $40k WITH the engine and go from there... I have spread my "pain" over the last ten years to get close to the above in my plane. Still no 430/650... I would NOT sell my plane for under $70k...price guides would say less, but I know what has gone into the airframe. $70k would be a bargain...
  9. Thanks for your input/information John. I have known all my life I am color deficient to red-green...Not "blind" like my brother that can only go by what light is lit on a traffic light. I had lasik surgery about ten years ago. Vision went from 20-30 to better than 20-20 with procedure. I can still pass the close-vision FAA test, but getting tougher each time... It has been a few years since a thorough vision test was completed (beyond FAA) so will go and get tested and do advanced color plates. The procedure was NEVER administered properly for me. Distance, lighting in room...as well as time allowed (perhaps that was in my favor) as I was always given a lot more time...including the last most recent test administered.
  10. HHmmmmm. Thanks much. The Dr. did NOT discuss the alternative plate test...Only the flight/practical. Did not want to go down that road...I will pursue the alternative plate test. Nice to have an option. Would have been even nicer to have the Doc...whom I have gone to for ten years discuss that option. Apparently pretty rare?... Again, THANK YOU much! Don't fly much at night, but can clearly identify gear indicators/street lights taxi/airport lights...Now seeing a red golf tee on green grass...or a red windsock on green grass...That is tough for me... Can a brother get an orange windsock?
  11. So, I went to complete my flight physical last week. After ten years of successfully passing the red-green color blindness test...I failed. I have always been red-green color deficient, but could always see enough of the numbers to get them and pass. No idea why the change...age? Fading of book at test site? Who knows...Bottom line is my medical now prohibits me from night flight. NICE. Paid $145 bucks to lose part of my pilot privileges. Even NICER. Anyone else a red/green sufferer out there? Probably just me
  12. Link is: M20-E Exposed for annual & int/Side window Refurb
  13. It's good that everyone walked.
  14. I got mie from Wilmar several years ago. Try some of the Mooney Service Centers.
  15. If that was your plane would you want it posted on Mooneyspace?
  16. So is a 327 with GDL 88 Mode S 2020 compliant, or do you need a 330?
  17. It's semantics...I guess. Words are powerful...or not. Fly safe
  18. I just flat disagree with "FEAR" in association with flying General Aviation aircraft. Respect... Comfort... The unknown or lack of experience might create anxiety...and hopefully cause additional assessment, calculation and comfort from knowing "it's alright"/I am alright/competent/mission ready. I don't disagree with your decision NOT to fly until the cause was known and repairs/correction undertaken....But FEAR? NOPE. Not like someone was going to be shooting at you, had a gun to your head forcing you to make the flight. If I had FEAR I would NOT be flying. I don't use the words FEAR or HATE lightly. LOVE, that is a word to use too much.
  19. You asked for opinion...so here it is: You did not discuss oil level at the dipstick. What was it? What was the cause for the leak? I change my own oil. I have a quick drain. I only add six quarts. If quick drain is closed and dipstick is snug, I am good. If I had a puddle of oil and I am down a quart I want to know where this aggressive leak is. My horror was NOT in dthe apparent trickle of oil, but in a $700 oil change. Good God man. I wish I made your money as I could NOT pay $700 for someone to put $30 worth of new oil in my plane. It takes me a minute to remove the lower cowl. Another minute to hook a hose to the quick drain and feed to a plastic bucket/open the drain...Another minute to remove hose/close drain. Three minutes to add oil... The world is crazy...and I believe your reaction is also over the top on this. My opinion only...You did ask...
  20. I had a pretty extensive post when I did my side windows. A lot of photos of process in my gallery. Good luck. Scott
  21. Don't you need 330 transponder to be compliant in a few years? Why not do that now?
  22. Nebraska='s Mooney-with a Columbian cousin='s threesome='s John's Hanger. YUMMY!
  23. I stand corrected...Read an AOPA detailed review a long while ago...Maybe that is why he checked weather a bunch...as a VFR pilot. Somebbody fact check me on the bad weather brief...My recollection is he checked a BUNCH and was given a poor brief that suckered him in.
