  1. Install this.
  2. A small vacuum cleaner should work fine. Before energizing, have some sort of relief, could be just a large hole in the hose with a sleeve, that you slowly close while watching your vacuum gauge. HF carries vacuum pumps for air conditioning work, but those are probably overkill.
  3. These are the settings that EI put in my MVP-50 (IO-360-A1A). Savvy flags high CHT at 450º.
  4. That in itself, regrettably, may be the best feature of the deal. Vintage Mooneys do not do well outside.
  5. When in doubt, consult with the master: Mike Busch
  6. I think this analogy is spot on. We often forget that air is a fluid.
  7. So is BS.
  8. A round porthole would have been cooler. Where are the VHF antennas?
  9. When this finally gets solved...and it will get solved...it will be epic.
  10. Time for the tarp. This is looking like a roof leak and roofers will tell you that water can travel quite some distance from the leak source--this can make it difficult to tell where a drip is coming from, for example. So, if the tarp excludes the water, then it means that the tank either needs resealed or whoever did the testing missed the leak. I say time to take it to Maxwell--his shop is renowned for saving Mooneys from the resealer or at least buying some time.
  11. This has gone Twilight Zone, hasn't it?
  12. Agreed, THAT is not an oops. That said, if in reinstalling the jug the stack was not tight, THAT's an oops.
  13. Great article on the PC system. I was doing some training with a CFI/I once and after we had flown around for at least 45 minutes or so, he commented: "You have EXCEPTIONAL rudder skills!" I almost turned around to see who he was talking to as I rarely, if ever, use the rudder. Then I realized he didn't know I had Brittain's homunculus helping me. The system is so gentle and unobtrusive that I am always somewhat surprised when it does something obvious. Sad about the company, but good to know there are techs out there like Kerry McIntyre willing to work on it.
  14. That might qualify as an 'oops!' given that the jug was replaced. Damn easy to check (see the Youtube video here).
  15. This mornings flight, flew like the beautiful bird she is--decent pilot, pathetic photographer. I do love it when the MVP-50 is splashed with green though
  16. Baffling. No, I mean the engine. I had saggy engine mounts to the point that the clearance at the lower cowl was 'just barely'. Replaced the mounts and spaces and Voila! no more overheating. Just need to check everything carefully to make sure all is aligned and no air leaks. At least you know which jug to concentrate on. Then there's the oops! Like, oops! we forgot to put whatever that springy thing is that goes between the jugs and pulls the lower baffle piece up and tight. Or oops! we left a rag in there. Oops happens.
  17. Sold. Thanks for all the fish!
  18. Frankly, I think it is time for the tarp, much simpler than the pressure test. Of course, not as revealing, but if the tarp cures the intrusion you can concentrate on the upper wing seams when you do the pressure test. Oh, and thanks for keeping us abreast of this--fascinating problem!
  19. The LASAR panel is baby butt smooth while the Air Mods has a pair of skids that help protect the underbelly in the event of GU. Since the panel is fiberglas, buried antennas should work fine. Not to skunk my sale, but the best time to do a one-piece is just after GU or the first year you decide to start owner-assisted annuals.
  20. ALERT! Fellow Mooniacs, The One-Piece-Belly I have for sale is for a Short Body (C/D/E) Mooney. Sorry for any confusion.
  21. Beaumont, TX (right off I-10). Yep, speed increase, if any, will be in the µKTS I thought it was just riveting; of course, a review by an A&P prior to purchase would not be a bad idea.
  22. In the interest of full disclosure, this feature has also been debated. Having pulled those panels personally during annual, I would argue that it HAS to be better, regardless of how you pull it on and off. Frankly, putting those fool panels back takes twice as long as pulling them off.
  23. See attached. There's <gasp> riveting involved.Aero Mods Install instructions - Copy.pdf
  24. At least 50 KTS Seriously, no data. Bob may have an opinion.
  25. Thanks for the endorsement Bob, and yes, install is non-trivial. Probably the best time to do it is after the GU
