  1. I kid you not, the airport dog in Fort McMurray AB is also Piper.! And Bluesky...i love your philosophy.
  2. I thought it was pretty much common practice these days. Almost every airport i go to in Northern Alberta charges to drop off or pick up passengers. Even at the airport's where there is no landing fees i have been charged the passenger fees. And this is the airport charging the fee, not the FBO. Some of them charge for parking, and some dont. If you buy gas then pretty much everybody does not charge for parking around here.
  3. Jose: thats been my experience anywhere we go. Every FBO is more than willing to go the extra mile these days. We stopped in lots of places last year and in 2008 when i did my Coast to Coast trips ( Didnt get all the way in 2010 due to weather) and we were either shuttled to the hotels or given a free car to use. Wish i have been to half the places you have by the sound of things.
  4. Dan: Thats very nice too. She does great work. I got 4 sets... one for each side of the nose and a set for the tail. The tail ones are just 6" though. Still look great.
  5. Thats a Canadian invention... Called Pre heat. Something most of you lucky buggers will never have to use, but we use it even in July!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Here in Canada if you fly above the 60th parralel you must have one. I am planning on getting one this year as i go to the far North quite a bit.
  7. cruiser. not always up here in Canada. At first they tried to cap me at 40 grand based on some book value. The only way to get it to the dollar value i wanted was to have a full appraisal done. If i agreed to the 40 grand they were willing to write the policy then and there. As i spent more than that on the engine, prop, hub etc i was not going to go for that. I still have more into the plane than what i will ever get for it but thats life. We dont spend the money on our toys to make a profit. I just wanted the nicest "A" model on the planet!
  8. I had mine appraised as it is worth more than the book value. I have an " agreed value" insurance policy on mine. I have a 1959 that is insured for 90 Grand as it has a low time engine, new prop, interior etc. The insurance company had no problems with this.
  9. Nope. I learned long ago if the wife ever finds out how much our toys cost they want equal spending!
  10. Dan: I just recieved my nose art from Victory Girl. Great job, fast delivery. I got "Jealous Mistress" for my little darlin. Looks really good and i will post some pics when i get home on Thursday.
  11. As yes....the old "while you are in there syndrome" I have never had just an annual for that very reason. This year it is a new panel and paint. If my wife asks any of you the annual, paint and panel cost about 5 grand OK????? LOL
  12. Thanks for the input. It is a very cool unit but it scared the hell out of me on friday. As i was about to touch down it started screaming terrain..pull up....terraine..pull up! cant wait to get all the other features set up. i like the satellite view and the topography overlays. i think i will be quite happy with this choice.
  13. Is anybody here using the new Garmin Aera 510? I just bought one last week and love it so far. I wanted the GPS496 but they are no longer available ( discontinued) so Garmin offered me this as an alternative. If anybody has WX weather etc hooked up to your GPS i would like to hear your comments on how well it works or does not work.
  14. It is hard to believe in this day and age a guy like this can even operate. I guess the only good news is that the rent was paid on the hanger the plane was in or they may have had a hard time even getting the plane back. Thank goodness for places like this that gets the word out.
  15. Jim: Thats amazing. You must get out on a regular basis. And it is nice to know with the proper care mine can last that long too, as I, like the squirrel have no intention of stopping flying till i am well into my 90"s!!!
  16. Sorry Squirrel but i have the oldest. 1959 Model A serial number 1280. Total time 2800 hours 500 on new engine , 300 on new prop, spinner etc. Looks and flies like new. Had all the wings redone and recovered in 2008, interior was done in 2005 ,panel ugrade. ( instruments so far) i need to replace the face as the plastic looks bad but thats on the board for March when she is in for the annual.
  17. SVEN: i think i just wet myself from laughing so hard... Sorry its at your expense but thats the funniest thing i have heard in a long time.
  18. Or we could say 10 alpha-mike-uniforms. That would really confuse the wife!
  19. You can come to my house next year then...looks like you brought everything and then some....LOL
  20. Holy cow Joile: How much junk can you fit in the back of that plane!!! i thought i was bad....LOL
  21. Dave: Yup. All was fine until somebody...( name with held for my protection) opened the friggin cage to give her some treats !
  22. So its like when i told the wife my plane only cost me 10 grand and she believed me! only next time i just say 10AMU's..... Got it
  23. Yup. Cats and dogs. No problem...my dogs love the plane more than a ride in the car. Use a cat carrier and you will be fine...dont let it loose in the plane or you will, i repeat...will. be sorry...LOL
