You are right, we do need an event in the Midwest at a time other than Oshkosh. Unfortunately due to my traveling for work. I never know when I will be home. I feel like currently I am just off of the Ambassadors schedule. Just finished up 5 weeks of work in Denver and am no longer in the area for the event, hosted by Alen, at the end of the month. Now it looks like Canada for 3-5 Months. Well at least I may have the oportunity to meet Russ. Maybe I can not plan a event at this time, but I can keep traveling and meeting great Mooney owners everywhere I go!

Jolie and Mitch, Great job on the interview! Also was great meeting you both at Oshkosh!

Last year I experienced the Watermelon Social at the Sea Base for the first time. It is held on Saturday night and is a must see. Eat BBQ, drink beer, go on a boat ride/tour past all the Sea Planes. It is very comfortable and VERY SOCIAL! http://www.oshkoshseaplanebase.com/watermelon_social.htm

Please let us all know what is a must see for Oshkosh this year. What new products are grabbing your attention? Any bargains that won't let you walk away? Thanks!

Norman and Gretchen: Look at the flight log. Altitude is steady and speed is all over the place. Shows a good picture of the winds. Everbody: This thread sure shows a lot of Mooney owners looking out for each other and investing time to help us all make proper decisions! Fly safe! I will be at OSH Thurs-Sat. Driving in, only 160 miles. See you all then! I am so excited, I think I am going to read my POH for a bed time story!

I drove past OSH yesterday evening. I saw the water, then my focus went to the flags, markings and cones. I smiled and felt the power and excitement. Some storms during the week. I hope these pics help....Just come prepaired. IT IS GOING TO BE GREAT!!!

Alan, Sounds like you just gave me the best source I could have dreamed for. Just another great example of the power of this forum and the fantastic Mooney owners here! Thanks!

I am doing some work, for a month or so, in the Denver area. I have arrived at BJC with my good friend Papa Zulu and would like to get proper mountain training while I am here. A instructor source would be appreciated!

Jeff, Very Nice! Good things come to those who wait!

I see the aluminum clipboard is a very important safety factor. My head is not very close to the headliner. Maybe it is the angle of my seat. I just found it good as the previous owner left it. It may be adjusted in a slight recline. Reclineing to the next adjustment may change things alot? Amelia, I do not have a 30in inseam. Most jeans only come in 2 inch increments. The 28 inch size are 1/4 inch short. No I am not a "little people". But, when people look at me, sometimes I see it in their faces, they are not sure.
-
Every time I see a link on pedal extensions, I am asking myself how anyone can have shorter legs than me. I am 5ft 6in and my 30in jeans rub on the ground. When I get in my 231, I never have to adjust my seat, I just move it all the way forward and lock it. The pedals feel real good. Are you guys that are wanting the extensions shorter? Or is the pedal linkage adjustable and mine may be adjusted for short people like me? Is this issue a bigger problem with a longer or shorter Mooney body?

Hello, My name is Bob. I only flew 12 hrs this week. I never use more than one logbook page per week. I do not have a problem!
-
Just thought of something else. Usually when an airport accepts grant money, it comes with a agreement that forces the airport to stay open for a stated length of time like 20 to 30 years. I bet if they receive any money, the airport is safer.
-
Mitch, I bet if SBP got some stimulus money and improved the airport, the city would count the improvement as added value and it may be too expensive for the developer to even consider. Not sure what it would take to get some stimulus money, but a lot of small airports are doing it. Just a thought?

Since my purchase was only a few months ago, I ran into the same question. When I "test flew" a 201, the guy always left the flaps down. After purchase, I wanted to leave them down (since a passenger will not step on a "slippery slope"), but decided not to. I figured I would raise them rather than take a chance of, some how, forgetting to raise them before take-off. I actually, 1 time, shut down and went to exit the wing and saw flaps still down and re-entered the plane to raise them. I also reviewed my entire shut-down checklist. That is why I have flaps last on my checklist to flag me when I leave. I lift my 7 year old daughter every time. I specifically tell all adult passengers "DO NOT STEP HERE!" as I touch the flaps. I then tell them to "Only walk on the black area". Then I watch them. This has worked for me, so far!

The sky is finally fantastic, it's HER day here too! I guess that is OK since I did get clearance from the Tower for the purchase of N231PZ.

When I purchased my 231, the owner mailed me the POH before I picked it up. I ended up going to a Office Depot or Office Max with it. They scanned it into a PDF file for about $20. This allowed me to get a copy to my instructor fast, in another state. Maybe someone has a Bravo POH and is able to help you this way?

Buster, My gut is killing me right now!

My 231 has the factory wastegate and is without an intercooler. I believe the only main negative to the factory wastegate would be in the event of a go-around. If you abort a landing, you can NOT add full throttle. If you do, you will overboost. You must advance the throttle up to 39LB. This obviously adds another item to your workload while you are reconfiguring the plane. Good training will keep you from overboosting! On the 231 the redline is 40LB and I believe the factory wastegate opens at 42LB. What I keep wondering is, why did the factory install wastegates that dump extra pressure at 42? Something tells me that if the factory wastegate opened at 40, it would become impossible to overboost. Maybe this was done to get higher HP numbers? As far as the intercooler goes, I have not had enough experience yet to share facts. But I will tell you what my gut says. They are not needed and the whole need is placed out there by the people selling them. I am new to Mooneys but have a 25 year history with Porsche automobiles. It is very interesting to compare the Mooney to a Porsche. First of all the Mooney owners and Porsche owners are both true enthusiasts! Both groups just love what they own! Learning and understand the mechanicals is a high priority. And they both can talk about their interest, every chance they get, up until the next event or gathering. I know this is a little off thread, but it ties to the next paragraph. What I find interesting is, back in the early 90's, the Porsche 911 Turbo guys were always talking intercoolers. The factory sold the 77 vintage cars without intercoolers and they came factory installed them on the 88 cars. Does this sound like the 231 and 252? All the 77 guys talked, talked and then purchased the intercoolers to upgrade. Then those guys stopped talking, because the change was not very noticeable. At the same time the 88 guys were buying larger intercoolers. But they kept talking because they had a BIG polished intercooler. They did not talk about how much faster or cooler the car ran, just BIGGER. The Porsche wastegate was set below redline not above like the Mooney. You could not overboost a factory 911. The guys that got a adjustable wastegate for the 911, would use it to increase boost for more power, not to keep from overboosting. Of course the Mooney has additional factors due to altitude, but I still think a whole intercooler craze is just silly. Now I have to tell where my mooneyspace username came from. It was my License plate number for my 911 turbo years ago. I guess all our opinions come from our experiences, so I must stand firm on saying NO to intercoolers and wastegates! My engine is only about 400 since factory overhaul at this time. I will post an update to my views in about 10 years, I hope, at about 1800hrs.

Ron, This thread actually encouraged me to do some research on the wing sight glass fuel gauges. I have a 231 that has one wing fuel gauge without a needle. Actually, due to age and turbulance, the needle has broken into a bunch of little pieces floating in the gauge. I have found that the sight glass gauges are very cheap and easy to install. I recently got a quote from Willmar for $33.95 each. Also Don Maxwell has some info on this and is close to you. If one just fell off, I would replace them both and never have an issue again for 20-30 years. Here is a link that may help: http://www.donmaxwell.com/publications/MAPA_TEXT/Wing%20Fuel%20Gauge%20Retrofit.htm I guess they are simular in design to a cheap compass. The in-tank fuel sender has a magnetic point on top that moves, in a radius, as fuel level changes. The site glass senders are basically glued in with a sealer. The needle then moves as the magnetic point moves. I hope my description or Don Maxwell's helps you! Bob
