  1. I once sold a boat on Ebay and the high bidder backed out. I asked him why he bid on it and he said "Well I did not think I would win it". It was a project boat so it was not worth a lot. He got under my skin really bad and since he only lived 50 miles from me thought the best solution would be to dump it in his front yard late at night, without the trailer. It would be worth my loss in this case since it was a 26ft, 5900lb boat. I decided quickly to remove the idea from my mind, due to my proper upbringing. But I still can picture this in my mind and it is pretty funny thinking about it again. I can picture it playing out, him calling me and being upset, as I calmly ask him "when are you going to make payment". Boy I am glad I was just a little "young and dumb"! I also just sold a MX20 multifunction on Ebay last month, the guy communicated poorly, then tried to change his mind. But it ended fine with proper payment and delivery. As far as your step, send him a credit for 0.99!

If people continue to use it as primary navigation and get in trouble, the FAA may exclude it from our EFB options. Lets not let that happen!

After reading the information provided by Ken Reed in the past, I purchased a Ipad a couple months ago and have now used Foreflight ($79, no geo reference) and Skychart Pro ($20 with geo reference). I basically use Foreflight on the ground for flight planning and fileing. When in the air, for me, it becomes a back-up in the event of panel failure. While sitting idle as a back-up you can also play a movie or music and offer it to your passangers. My plan is to keep 10 good movies available. I have chosen to mount my Ipad, verticle, on the co-pilot yoke. Since I am short It does not work for me on the pilot yoke. Yesterday I was flying VFR for about 200 miles at 2000msl/1400agl, but 10 miles visibility. In the past I would watch the terrain screen on my multifunction and follow paper charts to double check for towers, etc. This time I turner on Chartview Pro and it reduced workload greatly. It was nice to just look at the Ipad and see the heights listed just like a paper chart. It did create a additional situational awareness. It is also great for airport diagrams when going into an unfamiliar area or for an unplanned stop. Earlier in the flight I was at 17500 and had no issues with gps signal failure. I have chosen to use the Ipad's gps and no external unit. The Ipad should NEVER be used for primary navigation! Bit it is a great tool for situation awareness. The power of the unit is unbelivable for the price. For me it is the best purchase since my JPI 830. I am not sure what route I am going to add traffic in the future since I have a multifunction I can send traffic to. But if I did not have this option, I would add the ads-b receiver as Ken suggested.   7. My 2 favorite terms in aviation are "unable" and "personal Minimum". These keep us in control for flying the plane at a safe level. These terms are almost never questioned.

  9. Well, I did my first sim time today. Yes, the Simulator is much harder. Also it is like learning a new plane. The fumbling around to find everything is a little tough. I think all went well. The instuctor started me takeing off with 200ft ceilings. When I was done, he said god you did 2 hrs, not bad for the first time. I was thinking, why do we have to stop for lunch? I guess I will have to show him 3 in the tomorrow.

  11. Well guys, you are all advancing at a fantastic pace with your instrument training. Keep up the good work! I was working in Phoenix for a few months and managed to get in only about 10 hrs of hood time in. On the way home, to Chicago, I was stopped due to a thin wall of IMC. I was forced to leave the Mooney in Denver and fly commercial home. No I did not enjoy my first full body scan! Well my return flight to get the plane is still a week away. So I decided to do some sim time this week. I am scheduled for a couple hours three days this week. Then I go get Papa Zulu and hope to have a great basis to really fine tune everything in the plane and get my IFR training done. Alan, thanks for keeping an eye on Papa Zulu!
  12. Pilot716, At this point I have only had 2 annual policies, but both times they asked me the hull value and agreed to insure it for what I said. My first year AOPA could not help me due to low time and also 0 Mooney hours so I went with Avemco and overpaid greatly. This year I contacted Tom Johnson from Airpower Insurance. http://www.airpowerinsurance.com/ I was sent to Tom by Alan/Flyingaggie on this board. By odd luck, I was working in Phoenix when I called him and his office was about 4 miles away. We had lunch and he presented options and answered all my uneducated questions. After the policy was written, he helped me in many other ways. He found a temperary hangar at an airport with a 1.5 year waiting list and shared all his sources with me including someone to do my annual inspection. Tom is a aviation enthusiast and is a Yak pilot. He realy knows aviation insurance and will guide you in the right direction. If you contact him, he will listen to your needs and all will go very smooth! Enjoy your 201, they are great plaines!

  14. I few into Manassas VA last year for about a week. It is a well equipt Delta airport. If I remember, Oxygen was high, fuel average, car rental on sight high, but tie-down was fair. When I go back, I will return to ManassasJust a reminder, That whole area is a special flight rules area (SFRA). You must take an online course and print your passing report card after you pass the test. It takes about 1.5-2 hrs to do. You then must keep the card in your log book. Basically if you are IFR, it is simple. If VFR, you must file a DC SFRA VFR flight plan. It is basically an IFR flight plan with a note that it is actually VFR. The flight plan does not include your entire flight, just from the "gate" into the area to you destination airport. For Manassas it is basically a ten minute flight plan. When I went in, I left a delta space VFR and told them I had a DC SFRA flight plan on file, asked for flight following. They then do the departure and destination input in their system and take your 10 minute flight plan and modify it to you departure area. When you leave the DC area, ground control gives you a transponder code while on the ground. If you leave and are not on radar, you are instructed to turn right, enter downwind and land. Beside the extra work, it is pretty simple. Just not easy to get up in the air for a short 30 minute sight seeing flight while you are there.   16. Sorry this happened to you. You don't have to start over. Interest on the load balance ends up being a daily rate with the overage, after interest is paid going to principle. If you had a 10 year note that was 5 years old, then refinaced for 5 years with another bank, then next payment interest and principle would be the same, as if you never changed a thing. However if the newer note had a lower rate, your next payment would be lower, the interest would be lower and the principle payment would be higher. I used Bank of America and they were great. This bad situation gives you 2 advantages. Chances are you will get a better rate as some have stated. You also can re-evaluate you financial situation on your Mooney. Bank Of America will write the loan for, if I remember properly, 2-20 years. Unfortunately it looks like your negative effect may be loan fees. Good Luck!   17. A few years ago, I DROVE (Yes, in a car) 550 miles, each way, to see a Mooney that I thought was the best option available for my mission at the time. I decided to pass. The Mooney I purchased required travel from Chicago to DFW Texas. One round trip commercial flight for initial inspection, then 1, one way to take delivery a couple weeks later. I went and talked to Mooney owners and view planes for condition locally. This educated me properly to make a trip anywhere. After seeing 6-8 local planes, it only took 2 distant trips. I placed no limit on traveling. I think any location within the US is not too far.

  21. Emmet, I had a few of them jump out and scare me while in flight. You may find some Under the seat! LOL Actually you may want to look at the part number for the floor gear down indicator light. I think they may be the same. Just going by memory.
