  1. I couldn't make it, the dang rental plane had a major fuel leak! Doug how was the turn out?
  2. Hey there is a fly in at KJWN next saturday the 29th if anyone is intrested. Airport is celebrating their 25 year anniversary! I think thats where we are planning on heading if the weather cooperates.
  3. Wife says Nashville sounds great! Looks like with a little help from some wind I could make it non-stop in the cherokee too, at least one way prob have to stop on way back. But thats ok. We have about three possible weekends that we could go so I'm hopeing at least one will forcast good weather for the weekend. San Antonio and looking at mooneys would be great! Little too far for the cherokee though.
  4. Nashville sounds about right. Any suggestions on where to land/leave airplane? Place to stay, I'm sure there are tons of places to stay but anything extra special? carusoam- not first flight wiht family. And wife is all for our flying somewhere. Actually it was her idea. Our first flight as family was only an hour away, but a hour there and hour back in airplane saved us 7 hours of driving makeing it a very nice afternoon trip with the little one verses all day in the car! We used the airport crew car and my wife actually said this is great why didn't you finish your PP earlier!!! So she is deffiately on board!
  5. Hey Guys, Not a mooney owner yet, but still enjoy reading this forum. I'm looking for some recomenations for a nice over night weekend trip this winter. I'm based in southern Iowa and currently renting a 180 cherokee. Would like to find a nice place to fly to non stop with in 3 hours. Would be taking my wife and 4 month old daughter. Was thinking about chicago for the weekend, but been there done that. Might go further but not much. Place I rent from isn't much for letting there rental go further than one fuel stop from home. Planing a leave friday come home sat or sunday type thing. Thanks guys!
  6. I was wandering if that was the same airplane, I'll try to get ahold of him. Thanks guys!
  7. Did anyone see the E for sale on ebay recently. Only got a short look at it last week, auction ended but it had a buy now of 36amu. Anyone know anything about it?
  8. I'm assuming the depreciation only works if you business buys the plane, not if you buy the plane and put it in its own LLC, correct? Next question if you use your plane for busness travel ie its makes more sense time wise to fly than drive, can you also use the same plane for personal use? Is there a percentage buisness verses personal allowed or what? Also I was told a person flying for there business can write off the cost of getting a instrument rateing, is that true?
  9. I kinda thought they were blowing it out of perportion but sounds like they might have really screwed up. Just goes to show how one lapse in judgement can effect you entire carrer.
  10. Has anyone heard about the flyover at the football game last week? The media makes it sound like they were so low that they almost hit the scoreboard! Give me a freaking break. I guess there is some contraversy over if they had clearance to do the fly over at 500ft vs 1000ft that they usually do.
  11. Your ganna laugh, but I've been competitive with a savage model 12BR in 6mmBR. Have a Nightforce on it and just barely make weight for the factory gun class at 16lbs. I shoot light gun class with it also and have done fairly well, haven't won anything in the big boys class yet but my times a comin!
  12. A little bit on the longer body being more aerodynamic. If you look at it from a ballistics perspective, I could see why the longer birds were faster with same power. Take a bullet built for long range (I shoot 1000 yd Benchrest competition by the way) like my 6mm 105 grain amax its long and skinny built for long range. Then take a 100 grain spire point hunting bullet for comparison. The 105 amax has a ballistic coefficient of .5 and the 100 grain spire point a BC of .381 the higher the BC the better job the bullet has at keeping its velocity higher for a longer time ie: better for long range. Take this theory to mooneys and look at a m20E that wieghs 1600lbs verses a 201J that wieghs 1675. The longer plane wieghs about 4% more but is longer and the same diameter just like my long range bullet it the same diameter but longer and 4% heavier it still has a higher BC makeing it more effiecent at flying through the air! And to brag just a bit I won the factory gun class in Iowa this summer shooting 5 bullets into a 6 inch group at 1000yds with 3 of the five being in the bulls eye thats 2.5 inches!
