  1. I couldn't get smooth LOP operations below about 2450 RPM with my TSIO-360-MB/SB. Two totally different engines. The TSIO-360 does well between 2500 and 2600 RPM.
  2. Add my 252/Encore to the list. And also another couple Continentals I've flown. Setting up the fuel flow again helped the issue, though.

  5. Something is not making sense. Even at 36" manifold pressure, you should be getting max RPM. I assume that is 2700 RPM for your engine model. You said it is a "TB", but I'll assume it's an LB. So I would check the prop governor. Also, what's the max manifold pressure for your engine? Do you have the Merlyn wastegate?
  6. That's the good thing about Turbocharging. I was above much of the weather and could visually choose a safe route Since obviously some weather can be hidden behind the clouds and storms you see, I ask ATC to back up what I'm seeing outside.

  8. I wouldn't worry about any of these. Go get your multi rating in a few days somewhere, then do the transition training to your cabin-class twin. Barring any major circumstances I don't know about (loss history, DUI record, etc.) just about anything is do-able in the insurance market right now. I would imagine getting your multi rating and then expect about 25-40 hours dual prior to solo with initial school if it's a cabin-class twin.

  10. You can make the request through your agent to increase your hull value. The cost of the endorsement to the policy will be pro-rated through the end of the policy term. Example: if the annual cost to increase the hull value would be $400 and you make the change with only 3/4 of the policy term remaining, the cost of the endorsement would be $300 and be effective through the end of the policy term. If you cancel your policy, you'll receive a short-rate return. It's not common practice to cancel a policy and re-write it mid-term except in extreme circumstances.

  14. Byron, Though my recommendation for Hawk Aircraft Painting at VDF still stands, check into the paint shop up at Ennis (Southeast of Dallas). I've heard a couple good reviews there. Just don't get sidetracked on Bonanzas at Hammock Aviation while you're there. (Which, by the way, Jerry Hammock has an excellent shop if you ever do end up with a Bonanza).
  15. Hawk Aircraft Painting at VDF. Unless you do something crazy you'll get out for less than $10,000. Both fantom and I had our Mooneys painted there. Joe and his crew do excellent work.
  16. I have a nice plane for you. Encore converted Mooney 252. Better useful load than any Encore out there and on a much cheaper purchase price. It's been Mooney Service Center maintained and flying actively.   18. Well my airspeed might have to go to best glide after my cylinders were all getting beat up from such abuse if I was running 50ROP at these settings. I imagine it would be about 2-2.5 GPH more and maybe 7 knots better. Best to just add in more manifold pressure and stay LOP for equal performance.

  21. Longest nonstop Mooney flight is Austin, TX to Lakeland, FL. Just under 900nm on the route I took. Did this flight last fall in N252BH Longest Mooney trip was in an M20J I delivered from Longview, TX to Seattle, WA. Longview, TX - Garden City, KS - Billings, MT - Great Falls, MT - Slept 3 hours then continued to Seattle. 1641nm is what it shows from point to point. Just over 13 hours of engine running time.
  22. Hey Russ, What about buying a 2004 or earlier Mooney M20R? That way you have a lot more control of your upgrade path as certain products become outdated. I would load it up with a few Aspen displays and then the Avidyne autopilot and GPS when it's available. Another solution would be to buy my M20K and then I'll also sell you my position for the Avidyne IFD440 which will solve the WAAS problem
  23. I keep my costs and fuel burns down to the penny. You'll quickly exceed the extra price of my plane (if any) in operating costs for the Bravo. Also, it would be tough to find an Ovation cheaper and any Bravo will cost more to overhaul, feed, and maintain.
  24. I don't really have much M20K time with the 2 blade prop. But the climb is very nice with 3 blades.
  25. Typically use 30" or so to get this kind of cruise performance. LOP of course.
