  1. Quote: allsmiles I was maybe 135 knots. So the slower the spees the less the descent rate?
  2. Quote: allsmiles Thank you for the reply. No shutter. I know what you mean. This is why this seems odd to me. Usually there is a shutter that gets your attention. In this instance nothing!! I'm thinking the autopilot had the airplane trimmed to hold altitude and it was still at this trim attitude when I deployed the speedbrakes. Does this make any sense??
  3. I don't think it's going to be a function of cold air, but a function of IAS. Temperature means nothing in terms of IAS except for its effect on TAS.
  4. Reading through the logs on my plane, my prop has been on that plane at least once...mine escaped with about 30% less time it looks like...still wouldn't be afraid of that plane with the total time. ER did a good job of keeping mine in good shape...
  5. Find a plane to consider then come here and ask which shop to take it to. Some good ones I can think of off the top of my head: G-Force Aviation (Akron-Canton Airport KCAK in Ohio). I got an annual as my prebuy up there in February. Don Maxwell Aviation in Longview, TX (KGGG). Willmar Air Service in MN. LASAR in California.
  6. Nice! Can't beat that one for an M20J.
  7. Quote: Buster1 Can you put "aftermarket" TKS in a 231? Would you want to?
  8. Looks nice and clean. What model year do you have? In other words if you have a 78 or 79+, you got rid of that annoying slope in the glareshield above the annunciators.
  9. Quote: KSMooniac I think the Top Prop is around $7-8k new, outright with spinner but I'm not exactly sure. I've read of a lot of trouble with cracking spinners, so I hope they get it fully sorted if it isn't already solved. With Hartzell there is always the risk of a dubious AD to make you buy more stuff from them in the future...that is why I can't get too excited about that prop. Hopefully I'm wrong and they've finally figured out how to make a durable product.
  10. Quote: ILXLR8 Parker-Yes I did. I picked it up on November 4th. I am enjoying it! Have about 25hrs on it now. I grabbed one of Paul's pictures for my Avatar. Have not had any time to take any of my own. It takes a bit of time learning the options available to me in the panel.
  11. Quote: KSMooniac The extra 400 hours or 1 year is still not worth it since you have to haul around all that extra weight. I don't know any Part 91 owner/operators that follow those schedules for props and just do it on-condition or when the engine is off.
  12. Quote: KSMooniac Excellent news! I'm sure Parker is itchin' to get that beautiful maroon plane out of Waco too.
  13. Quote: ILXLR8 I thought about this last week and decided to use TKS fluid in a home weed sprayer. I would not try automotive windshield deicer. The main component is salt. I am not fond of salt on 30 year old aluminum.
  14. It's a nice running airplane...and being able to get 30" of MP pretty much anywhere you want is great too. I'd suggest polishing that prop just a bit more . On another note, I did some local IFR flying of my own today at 3000' and had a 40 degree crosswind correction on the ILS at 2300' which changed to a 5 degree crosswind correction by the time I was at 1700' for surface winds out of the south. Clocked a 58 knot tailwind at one point. 76 degrees up above the clouds too. Now a nice random fog has moved in. KACT 090051Z 18008KT 1SM BR OVC001 12/11 A2963 RMK AO2 SLP031 T01170111

  16. Best groundspeed stories... 193 Knots northbound through Oklahoma in a 1975 Cessna 172M at 3500 about 3 years ago. Wide open throttle was giving me 2500 RPM. Sustained 150-160 kt groundspeed from Killeen, TX to North Carolina in a C172. Came back the next morning and ranged between 50-75 kts through Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. Moderate turbulence the whole ride from north of Atlanta all the way to Baton Rouge so I was powered back a bit. Meanwhile a Mooney gave a pirep going the opposite direction at 12,000. I forget the speed but he was haulin. I managed to hit 100 knots once I passed into east Texas. 12.5 hours from Charlotte to Waco, TX. Brutal.
  17. Quote: mooneyflyer Harley, email me at philcorman@hotmail.com or call me at home at 805-227-0480 to discuss. I already have another guy interested in helping to start a Texas based VMG, but we really should have 3 to make it work, based on our experience in the Western USA. It looks like we will be starting a VMG NorthEast with Jeff Miller if he gets a decent response as well. Phil
  18. I flew Matt's plane to Washington (absolutely beautiful flight) after it got the annual inspection done at Don Maxwell's Mooney shop in Longview. It's a great, well-equipped plane and whoever gets it is getting a great deal!
  19. I know I get a gear warning horn regardless of throttle setting if I go below ~55 knots. Are the gear horn and stall horn somehow tied together? Just a wild guess with no reason to back my proposition.
  20. I wouldn't add any value for a 3 blade prop as many with 4 cyl engines are experiencing vibration with the 3 blade props...
  21. Quote: jkb458 I'll be bringing my plane home for the first time!!! I just finished my insurance minimums last week. My airplane stayed behind to get a few tweaks before coming to her new home. I'll be flying from middle GA to north GA. Only 100 NMs, but I'm wondering if anyone else will enjoy flying as much as I will on Saturday!!!
  22. Quote: KSMooniac It is so nice to look down on jammed interstates while blissfully scooting along overhead at 3x the speed!
  23. Quote: KSMooniac Parker, do you have a ride back to Waco? I'm hopefully heading to the area on Saturday.
  24. FSDO ride on Friday and hopefully leaving the plane in Dallas for some avionics work!
  25. Quote: rotorman However the engine is coming up on 2000 hrs and I'm thinking of replacing it with the IO 390 recently STCed.
