  1. Maybe some difference in the hole but the ones in all the Mooney's i've seen don't have the angled bottom. The grips are on protusions at 90 degrees. larry
  2. dont know but i have one too larry
  3. Carusoam logged in under N9937c. iPad iOS 5
  4. The shop I use has new at $1800 and I remember finding rebuilt somewhere. Can look today and can send if you need. larry
  5. One big point is that preselect works on the way down also. I put in an Apollo Altitrack for about 600 amd get a bong and light at set alt. also at dh. Next best thimg. much cheaper/ larry
  6. I had an inflight failure almost same thing. turned out to be a bad hose on a fuel truck put rubber bits in the fuel, plane flew fine for 4 hours. next morning topped off, took off and 30 minutes later I am a glider. Would not restart until ~ 700 feet agl and would only make low idle power. Towed off runway and inspection started. Found Gaskolator coated in rubber bits. Faa found the hose the next day where i fueled for the 4 hour flight. All the sumping never revealed a bit of contamination. larry
  7. I have a buddy that has a Turbo Arrow. Upon seeing my Mooney he asks about the speedbrakes. He said " What does the Arrow use for Speedbrakes?" My reply was " It's wing" larry
  8. I think the saying goes somthing like " I had rather push my Mooney than Fly a Piper" ! Maybe that was motorcycles. Can't remember. larry
  9. Not all steel tanks are the same. A 3ht is 24 year life and a 3aa is unlimited with 3 and 5 year tests respectively. www.airportshop.com/aviation_oxygen/cylinders.html larry
  10. note that seller said weight about 18#. Would replace 3-4 # of skins? larry
  11. If you compare modified Mooney to a stock Baron, You simply must compare a HARPOON to a Rocket. Google Harpoon and you should come up with a 58 with a Walter turbine. Still LOVE my Mooney! larry
  12. The BEST thing for my Mooney was the wife buying a house in the mountains of New Mexico. The plane makes the run in 1.2 hours instead of a 5 hour drive. Now she has started to pay the hanger rent and reminds me of annual time and the insurance is due. I can't tell you how many flights I have made hauling she and her girlfriends for a "GIRLS WEEKEND". Am ready to go when SHE is ready! larry ( way more than a pretty face. I have a Mooney)
  13. solar flares larry
  14. the tube is off a 1250 hr frame. should be pretty good larry
  15. whick tube is this? don't have parts book home. I do have whichever one you need larry
  16. One of the first things is to check with your FSDO and see what hoops you must jump through. Some not so bad and some terrible ( FSDO's). Will require engine data tag to be restamped and flight manual changed. Also a parts manual is not considered " approved data " to make such a change. I have no idea how they came up with that! I do know engine shops change them all the time without a lot of grief but for a regular guy its not so easy. GOOD LUCK larry
  17. I don't know of another way to put this: I HOPE LIKE HELL YOU CAN'T FIND A DECENT MOONEY FOR 25K. THE MARKET IS BAD BUT I THINK (PRAY) IS BETTER THAT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! larry
  18. I had the same thing happen on an m20r on a leg from midland to st louis. Nothing got rid of it except master. Was intermittent for 1 month when I found the stall warning vane was "crooked". My guess was someone washing the plane hit it from the side or walked by and hit it. make sure its square with the slot. doesn't take much to tweek. check stall speed on next flight. larry
  19. Quote: Mazerbase The plane was a 79 231/Rocket. I briefly looked at it in 2006 as it was for sale at that time. Ultimately, I bought his other 86 252/Rocket. I can also tell you at that time, his maintenance was performed by A&Ps employed by him at his airport at Lake Norman.
  20. Talk about BAD mechanics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 There is one in Odessa that takes the cake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. A buddy of mine with a Turbo Arrow (tsio 360 fb) put his plane in the shop for some service. Superwrench sends the fuel system off for O/H. Puts it back on returned to service. Owner starts flying plane but has some problems with engine dying upon landing. I go fly with the student pilot and take off fuel flows are 15 -16 gph instead of 23-24. TALK ABOUT LEAN OF PEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back to shop, fuel system sent off again reinstalled. Again too lean. send fuel system off to different shop, still cant make run right. Gets owner quotes on rebuilding engine and his logbook entry goes as follows: One or more cylinders possibly cracked. Which cylinders? Possibly cracked? Compressions all were the same as last annual. Passed spray and stain check. Had my mechanic come over and in 3 hours had fuel system lined out! CAN YOU IMAGINE THIS IN A LOGBOOK? larry If you ever need service in Odessa, call me for this guys name. You notice I didn't say mechanic (guys). Far from mechanic!
  21. I probably had the best seller in the world on my last Mooney. The plane was this much, He would take it for prebuy anywhere i wanted and we split the escrow . The plane was a better deal than described. I got to meet a Wonderful Mooney pilot of many years who was giving up flying. I am sure he misses it! Thanks Gary! larry
  22. If you REALLY want to be amazed that something costs as it does, What about noise cancelling headsets? TOTAL BULLSHIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! larry
  23. A leaking oil bottle would be running out near the rear bulhead in front of the battery, NOT AT THE TAIL. larry
  24. Flydave Back in the early 80's STEC made a Yaw damper for the 231. The control had a knob that worked as rudder trim. The system worked very well. larry
  25. A kns 80 has all but the gps and they work great and are reliable larry
