  1. In the turbo Mooney's I have flown the #1 cylinder is the hottest both in cht and egt. I would have your mechanic really look at the ignition ( mags, plugs and wires). The only other time I have seen this is when a mag switch had been left on one mag and detonation was present at TO power. It was noticed the EGT's were Way hot on the TO roll. Larry
  2. I fly an Rmodel for some people and about the only thing i HATE is the vernier throttle. The owner of the plane has real trouble slowing the plane down as the vernier throotle feels like it is full at idle but the engine is still producing a small amount of power. Not good as the plane will really eat up the runway and as we know " ITS NOT NICE TO LAND A MOONEY BEFORE IT'S TIME!" Larry
  3. WHAT KIND OF PLANE DO YOU GET WITH THAT? Is this a reman? THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE!
  4. HI I live in the midland odessa area and have an IA that has worked on Mooneys since the 70's. pm me for #'s if needed larry
  5. with 96 gal YOU probably cant even go! larry
  6. Are you letting the plane speed up to ~cruise speed before setting the mp and rpm for cruise? This increase in spped will change all your settings as well as leaning. larry
  7. I am wondering about some of the statements made above. To ILXLR8 If you are operating your engine at the parameters you have listed above your engine is SERIOUSLY in danger. Perhaps you mean 39 in. and 40 in. instead of your listed parameters. I am at a loss to explain why an aircraft engine mfg of large high performance engines does not skip the time and expense of turbo intercooling their new designs to accomodate your theory. MOONEY must have wasted untold $ with the ACCLAIM. I cannot think of a mechanical system that will perform longer and better at a somewhat reduced temperature. My nickel larry
  8. My 231 came to me with intercooler. I normally see 60 - 70 degrees c. reduction of temperature across the cooler. If I couldn't find my " dream" 231 with the cooler, This would be my first purchase. I live in the land of Texas and see 100 degree F. days more than my share. Really tames the temps. larry
  9. 337 was dated 8-3-93 installed inner gear doors Lasar#116 larry
  10. I think mine came from Lake aero as well as the caliper rotation. if no luck there i can go back through logs for you larry
  11. The charging systems are to be set up to "come in" at a higher speed ~1200 - 1300 rpm. Normally don't get much charge at idle. larry
  12. does the charge drop off when you turn on pitot heat, landing light? very well could be the shear coupling on your alternator drive. there is a service bulliten from tcm to check torque every 500 hours. QUALITY in Tulsa can rebiuld or exchange otherwise TCM is $1979.97 GASP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. My dog has travelled with mr in the mooney enough she is thinking about her ATP rating. Chinese Crested so there is no hair to clean out of the plane. Never a problem with her flying and she is ALLWAYS ready to go. Most trips are ~ 1 hour long and highest alt is 13k. larry
  14. you might check the 2 very small fuses that are on the bottom of the curcuit breaker panel they are under a little thimble shaped cap. made by LITTLEFUSE and you will fell like you have been screwed when you have to replace them. there are 2 of them one + and one-.
  15. am going to install the merlin when i change engines. seems like a good system. larry
  16. My intercooler readout also reads about 40 degrees differential but this is c. not f. larry
  17. My lb is at 1967 sfrm and has never even had a cylinder off. 1 quart of aeroshell in ~20 hours. Is intercooled and speedbrake equipped but no gami's. Usually run ~65% at 160 true.
  18. Heck a F-16 simulator would be great to just sit in and make my own motor noises! lol larry
  19. Yoy will never find another plane that has ALL the pluses of a 231. I have a set of keys to an Ovation that stays fueled and the owner wants me to fly to keep all ok. I would rather fly my 231!
  20. Lets see F 16 sim time? Texas - Utah in 231? SOUNDS LIKE FAIR TRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Larry
  21. I'd bet when this one goes up for sale there is no mention of HANGER RASH! LARRY
  22. looks like only one b36tc registered in LA has #n65***
  23. Got a call from Mooney and was told they had given me the wrong part number. Correct part number showed a price of about $200. I was shocked to have gotten this call back as I didn't think this kind of customer service existed! My hat is off to the people at MOONEY for their customer support! Larry
  24. Checked my lights the other day before a night flight and my rear stobe was not working. Called to get another from mooney dealer and was given a price of $1100.00 for the stobe bulb and nav light unit. Am still in shock! The bulb was in stock. Larry 1981 m20k
  25. m20k 1981 1954 sreman never had a cylinder off just checked comp. low 73/80 high 78/80. 1 qt in~ 20 hours Is intercooled and spoiler equipted larry
