Hi All The AOPA Summit is next week! Hard to believe. Here is what Mitch and I have scheduled, and it would be lovely to meet up with others on the list. Thursday afternoon: Simple Steps to Save your Airport, a panel discussion with AOPA VP Airports, Bill Dunn. Friday night block party: We are staying at the Hyatt Regency, which looks to be within walking distance of the Block Party on Pine street. How about we all wear our favorite Mooney gear and head out together? Saturday morning: 10:00 a.m. AOPA Awards ceremony: receiving the Crotti Trophy. Saturday afternoon: 1:00- 45 minute presentation to CalPilots on the Mooney Ambassadors and the Fight to Save Oceano Airport. This will be held at the Hyatt in Seaview A. The AOPA Live Film Crew came to Oceano last week to interview us and take shots of the airport. Victor, the producer was offered a bi-plane ride from JR Smith of Banner Airways. We were departing in the Ovation, so we flew near enough to the Stearman to get some cool air-to-air video. Hopefully it will be incorporated into the web/TV presentation. We will have the new version of the Mooney Ambassador shirts available! It would be neat to see members of our Mooney Family there.

We have two or three Mooneys headed to this event. It’s being produced by a new 501©3, not for profit called, Friends of the Airport (FOTA). We’re hoping you can help spread the word among your membership via newsletters, magazines, online calendar postings, meetings or conventions, etc. We believe your members would be interested because of the following four reasons: 1. We need static display aircraft with a high “cool” factor. If any of your members are interested in putting their aircraft on display for the day, they can contact us for more details. 2. We have booth spaces available. If any of your members owns an aviation related business and would like to have an exhibitor/vendor display at our event, they can download the forms from our web site. It’s a great opportunity to market to thousands of aviation enthusiasts in one location on one day! 3. Key West in February is a great place to be! If any of your members have never experienced the world class fishing, diving, arts & cultural activities that the Florida Keys has to offer, not to mention the warm water, great February weather, Sloppy Joe’s and Margaritaville, they should consider visiting our event. 4. We need sponsors. If any of your members are from South Florida and would like to get in on the ground floor of this new, annual event by helping us produce SOAR, they can download the forms from our web site or contact us for more details. Soar will include aircraft static displays, aviation exhibitors/vendors, flight opportunities, and tours of the new terminal. It is hard to believe the AOPA Summit is just around the corner. I noticed in today's Epilot that they are offering some cool "Be Well" seminars in the early morning all three days. Here is a link for the schedule. I would encourage all Mooney flyers to attend. The Friday night block party in downtown Long Beach is free [though there is a suggested donation for the AOPA ASF]. Dave Thank you for sharing your story. Another thing that you did correctly is not panic. You kept your wits about you. You were systematic and kept in control of your emotions. Post-incident I am sure you had quite an adrenaline rush. It does take gumption to post your story, and I don't think that any of us can criticize. You learned some valuable lessions, and perhaps gained a few "never again" items to your personal checklist. Kudos to you! Let us know what happened with the engine....perhaps it was a guardian angel getting you guys back on the ground sooner rather than later!

Jolie This remembers me an event that occurred to me when I was about 3 year old baby when I just mastered to relief myself outside the diapers. We were on a beach party when I was proudly relieving myself in front of a tree. A baby girl comes by and asked me how can I do it. Unable to explain it to her, probably due to my limited vocabulary I pulled her diaper down to show how she can do it. That's when I noticed there was a difference. This is my earliest memory recall. BTW I still do it in front of a tree (when nobody is looking). You don't know what you are missing. Piloto José

You know secretly I have always wanted to be a male, just for a few days to see what it is like.... but this is a bit strange to see me posting and it is really Jose! We are headed to the MAPA Convention in Colorado Springs tomorrow! Should be a fun event for all. Male or Female, get your Mooney there if you can!

Dave, hope your back heals real soon. I hear the Livermore event was a hoot, and Bob did a great job as point person. He was even interviewed by the announcer and the radio! Thank you. Mitch is so much more than the man behind the curtain. We are such a team. It seems very odd to be receiving this. We do work very well together. Except though when we are wrestling to see who gets to fly a leg! HA Anyway, we are humbled and thrilled. It helps keep our brand out there too!

I received a call on my cell phone from Craig Fuller the President of AOPA on Wednesday. I think I was a bit shocked when he introduced himself! He explained that he was calling to tell me that AOPAs Board of Directors unanimously voted to award me the Joe Crotti Award for promotion of General Aviation and GA Airports. Joseph R. Crotti, 71, former director of the California Department of Aeronautics. He was a strong advocate for civilian use of military air bases in California and throughout the West. Crotti served as aeronautics director under Govs. Ronald Reagan and Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown Jr. He also served for 15 years as Western regional representative for the 325,000-member Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn. When he retired, the association honored him by creating the Joe Crotti Trophy for California General Aviation Advocacy. The award will be made annually to a Californian who carries forward Crotti's advocacy of the most effective use of all airfields. He said that what we are doing with the Mooney Ambassadors, and the Friends of Oceano Airport is just spectacular. I told him that I didn't think I was doing anything that anyone else couldn't do, but I was stunned and honored. I also said that the award really should be for both Mitch and me. We are a team in all of this. The Crotti Award will be presented at the AOPA Summit on Saturday morning the 13th at 10:00 a.m. I am really very surprised and just wanted to tell you all the happy news. Edenton, NC Northeastern Regional Airport, September 25, 2010 Point Person: Amelia Reiheld sure would love to have a gathering of Mooney Ambassadors there, so all you Mooney drivers, plan to join us in beautiful historic , for a fly-in/community open house at Northeastern Regional Airport. It'll probably run from 10-5 or so. We hope to have area military big-iron, both static and fly-over demos, RC demos, food vendors, free airplane rides, exhibits from charitable flight organizations, etc. Camping and airplane parking are (as always) free, though you'll need to bring your own tie-downs. If camping and fair-food isn't your style, reserve a car with Enterprise, and book a room in one of the wonderful B&Bs in and around Edenton. There are some excellent restaurants, too. If Mama would rather tour the colonial historic sites and shop than talk airplanes, we'll find a ride into town. Mariposa Airport EAA event, September 25, 2010 The Mariposa Airport is a gateway to the beautiful Yosemite area. This fly-in was organized to highlight the importance of this GA airport.
