  1. Based on your mission goals, I’d get the gfc500. If the panel supports it, having that smart glide button would be a nice insurance measure.
  2. The rep I spoke to said they would be relying on engineering support from the airframe mfgr. TBH though, if they are doing them by aircraft popularity, we would be way down the list. I imagine they’d target the 172’s, PA28’s etc long before us.
  3. This engine is one of the reasons I’ve decided to add the multi rating. Besides the velocity twin, they have a program targetting the seneca.
  4. I agree the price is high for early adopters. Hope they pull it off. I saw a roi projection somewhere based on the price delta of JetA. It also seems to me they may be able to achieve longer TBO’s as more data and iterations happen.
  5. I didn’t ask. I prefer blissful ignorance.
  6. That’s a sure winner!
  7. I was admiring their cutaway engine they had on display and made a crack about whether Mooney was on their future STC list. “You are the fourth person that has asked.” And the official answer is it would be very unlikely since Mooney are “out of business”.
  8. @Will.iam Might be a little overkill but sounds like a good excuse for a gantry crane.
  9. Back to the hotel after my first day ever. I was prepared for the sun and the walking, but no one warned me about the whiplash. Between all the pretty planes and scenery, my neck got a real workout - especially during the jet fighter demos. Hear the boom of afterburners and immediately whip around to see where they are. What an awesome show! P.S. I was really impressed with the Snowbirds. I’d never seen them live before. A very graceful performance.
  10. They are having a naming contest for it at Osh this year. They said the performance characteristics are very similar to the current model, but since this one is composite, it will be field-repairable. Also that it removes the operating limitation the current one has. They state this stc is the next in their pipeline and it is expected to happen in Q4 this year.
  11. I went to their booth this morning and asked. They had no news.
  12. I agree. I grabbed one of the reps and asked but they knew less than I did.
  13. No news on the AP certification progress. Love the clarity on that radio display.
  14. Hard to fly the plane with half of it missing.
  15. Well, I imagine most of those settings should have some sort of descriptor or information to help guide the installer. If someone were determined, it should be easy enough to compare the two sets of values in the STC and what folks are using on the experimental side to tailor one's own setup. If so inclined...
  16. Best I can find on full flaps stall speed on those is 1mph above that number.
  17. Just saw it on the news. How awful. Two miles from the field and augured, burned up both occupants. I'll be watching for the NTSB report but damn, that really sucks. Prayers and thoughts with the families.
  18. Sure would be interesting to see how these would work on the A3B6D, assuming they ever offered one in that configuration.
  19. I will have to look into that bag. I got a "flight outfitters" from big river when I started the ppl, and tbh, I have grown to hate the thing. It's a small backpack version and nothing seems to work right in it.
  20. So cold. But hilarious.
  21. Guess this is as good a place as any... This is probably old news to most of you... Since I've been watching so many avionics videos on YT, it just showed me the GFC600's automatic rudder bias routine for twins. It uses the EIS and automatically kicks in the moment there is an engine failure, regardless of whether the AP is on. I think it becomes active at 700' AGL, iirc. That's pretty damned cool.
  22. All - I finally sat down with a local attorney today to review the lease agreement. He had a number of concerns with it and I will be addressing those with the airport folks when the time comes. I have this on hold for now until I finish the ppl and get the plane here. Hopefully both of those will be happening soon so that I can focus more on this.
  23. I'm going to second what @Echo recommended. I was also in the market for a pre-J, but when you look at all of the factors, and how many more J's were made than other models, it just makes sense to go with a "modern mooney". If I am not mistaken, I think more J's were built than any other generation. So that would give you more choices in the marketplace and make them front in line for any new avionic certifications. Just my humble opinion.
