  1. Awesome! I spent a lot of time at Osh looking at those. Compared to the G5 I am used to, that display is just so much nicer.
  2. Yes Sir, and it's mighty spendy all the way down.
  3. @FJC Those 275's are really growing on me. How long have you had them?
  4. OP, just a little advice since you've been trying to sell this one for a year now. Those price drops are getting serious. I'd recommend getting an MSC or reputable independent to do a complete pre-buy on the aircraft, and get as many pics during that process as possible. (Ideally showing that there is no corrosion or fuel leaks, etc.) Share a copy of that pre-buy report here along with link to those pics here along with scans of the logbooks and you'll get more interest. GLWS!
  5. That's scary stuff! I wonder if ATC would have been able to get you a reasonable re-route.
  6. @EricJ My flight school has two archers, both with ac. Here in Georgia, it gets mighty toasty, but those units at least take the edge off in cruise. They pretty much have to stay off during pattern work as they make the plane even more gutless. When I flew my first solo xc, I perspired mightily during that remote landing and taxi back because I didn't want to risk forgetting to turn it back off.
  7. But, but....nitrogen particles are larger and therefore less prone to leak out!
  8. Lifelong hearing aid wearer here... I'll second/third the custom earplugs recommendation, but make sure they are of a soft material. You do not want the lucite/acrylic ones - those end up being painful under extended wearing. @Schllc It sounds like you might be able to use some programmable hearing aids for flying. The idea being you'd get just a little bit of boost in the voice regions and the selective frequency programming along with the passive reduction in the ear plugs, would help with the background noise. Use those with a decent ANR headset and you'll feel like you are on the ground, idling. That's essentially what I'm doing and it works very well.
  9. @McMooney One of these should do the trick.
  10. I have only watched the first few minutes of it, but that's a pretty clever way of going. Got any videos saved of how to build the actual hangar on the cheap? I've been thinking of having a pole barn outfit do mine. My main goal is that it needs to be weather tight. We have high humidity here so I really want to be able to manage that.
  11. That's a really interesting solution. Do they offer installation as well, or is that something you had to coordinate with your contractor? This is good timing as I am looking at building a 50x45 on a budget. Fwiw, their yt channel has a few videos of just the doors by themselves operating out in the open. Kinda wild to see that big ole door just moving around with no external attachments.
  12. That is great to hear. They were the ones that were taking care of the J I just picked up and as far as I can tell, the previous owner(deceased) was happy with them as well. As far as your tire issue goes, have you had a chance to put the tube in a bucket of water to check for leaks?
  13. Magnolia Aviation is on that field if you want to have a pro take care of it. They stay busy but will take care of you.
  14. Sure sounds to me like you've got a short in the wiring. You need to find an A&P that cares enough to do quality troubleshooting on the issue. It's not your job to educate those guys on something like that. Sounds like you need to find a different shop.
  15. Ugh. That’s awful.
  16. Agreed! But that twin did.
  17. I agree and also had the opposite happen last week. Untowered field, a twin came barging in, ignored all calls and current traffic patterns and landed against everyone else.
  18. I meant to say something along those lines. If you are lucky enough to have a hangar that is weather tite and ideally insulated, it sure would be nice to adjust or confirm temp and humidity levels remotely. That’s creeping into being a hangar home, though.
  19. Lol! Funny thread. A couple of fields near me are in college towns, so you’ll hear things like “Go Dawgs!” on ctaf.
  20. Well, I’d sure like to try one in my new to me J. I’d really like it if there was some way to legally add a second one to have some awesome redundancy like a lot of boats do it.
  21. Good idea! Reception in my area is so spotty in places I'd probably have to put a little radio tower on top of the hangar to get a usable signal. I need to go back out to the potential build site and check that.
  22. Some comments in the EarthX thread made me think it would be worth talking more about those issues separately. Personally, I'm a techie and I figure whenever I do build a hangar, it will have a cell service repeater along with wifi. I don't know if I will ever have a plane with live monitoring onboard, but do think it would be worthwhile to have a hangar internet system in place for security and fire concerns. And the wifi would obviously be helpful for flight planning, weather monitoring and nav database updates. But...... there is a lot of appeal in the idea of being able to (reasonably) go completely offline when working in the hangar and getting away from the daily grind and interrupts. So how do you guys handle this and what do you prefer? I know some go with having at least wifi internet available in their hangar.
  23. Any longer and they could use that for a cupholder bracket.
  24. Hey Friends, After way too long of a process, I finally closed on my first Mooney. Heck, first plane, for that matter! It’s been a life long dream to have my own plane and I’m in awe it actually happened. Thanks to some very kind and helpful people here who answered my countless questions. Yes, I’ve already been making arrangements to get transition training. And won’t ever stop learning and fine tuning. Already got Don’s landing dvd and have been watching it. Looking forward to getting to know the plane better and start plotting out those squawks and upgrades! Thanks Guys! Dan
  25. That sucks about the Cirrus. To be completely fair, that's not an EarthX problem. That's a poor design/engineering choice on the part of Cirrus. Any kind of "connected" system should have a safe guard monitoring it's supply voltage so that it doesn't cripple the host. At the price level we are talking, not having that kind of safety net designed in is inexcusable.
