  1. Knowing this crowd, I'm kind of surprised someone didn't already have this
  2. I have been reading the thread in the short body section about cowl flaps. Open or closed, I only get a single digit change in oil temp. In the summer, it's literally a 2 to 3 degree change. I'm doing an oil change tomorrow and will have the cowl off for the filter. Anything I should look for? Is this an oil cooler problem? Thx!
  3. Also 5'7" I used to pull the seat all the way up, I now go back one notch. Sometimes though if I'm really pushing on the brakes I get a cramp in the back of my calf or thigh, I'm careful about it and don't remember which it was but it hurts. I'm fortunate enough to have the articulating seats and I do have the height cranked up about halfway. My wife is much closer to 5 ft and sits on one of those tailbone cushions you're supposed to put in your chair at work. I haven't once regretted buying my J. The previous owners had all taken good care of it.
  4. I had a 760 wired to the autopilot in my experimental and loved it. Naturally it wouldn't fly approaches but it did everything else.
  5. Since I bitched about Garmin not giving me my free pilot pack on the GTN, I wanted to share some good news that I felt was great customer service. I have an old GDL 50 I keep on the glare shield that for whatever reason I'm very attached to. I keep it wired into a USB charger connected to ship power. The USB port on the GDL has always been a little flimsy. 2 days ago I was unplugging the cord to take it off the glare shield and all of the USB innards came out with the cable. I sent Garmin an email asking how much it would cost to repair or replace and they asked me my serial number. I thought that was kind of strange because I said in my email that it was old and I expected to pay. My serial number is in the hundreds so I imagine it's a very old unit. They wrote me back to say this is a known issue and they will replace it for free. That was a nice Christmas gift
  6. @ArtVandelayI've been reading this old thread it has a lot of great information. Would you mind sharing your checklist with me?
  7. I feel like this is a dumb question and google is letting me down so I'm going to ask publicly. What is "nonparticipating aircraft", is that what you become after "radar services terminated"? Context below: Using agencies and pilots operating in such MOAs should be aware that nonparticipating aircraft may legally operate IFR or VFR without an ATC clearance in these MOAs.
  8. Thank you, that actually makes me feel better. Seriously though, not a smart remark.
  9. you spoil her If my wife (or anyone else's) every sees this, I'm a cooked goose.
  10. Thanks @Justin Schmidt. I would have sworn the knob was metal. I'll be sure to check that before I ruin it.
  11. Does your wife know you put aircraft parts on her kitchen island?
  12. My airport recently asked everyone for a copy of their current annual and if you didn’t have one you had 90 days to get it. I’m not sure how this impacted the home builders, we have a strong EAA presence. I’ve heard if you are taking federal funds for your airport, the FAA has started cracking down on the landscapers, the auto buffs, plane parts collectors and the blow up bouncie house people who I have seen taking up hanger space. Ill look for my agreement and pm it to you.
  13. Not my panel but oddly enough my yokes have the exact same corrosion. see clock in the lower left hand corner, it has a knob at about the 7 o’clock position. The knob is fastened on a threaded shaft. Mine is always coming loose and I’m afraid I’ll loose it. What is the consensus on using purple (low strength) thread lock on it?
  14. @81X I learned to fly at MJX so I know exactly the where and the what you described.
  15. I use the same strategy with two young grandchildren in the back seat. They know to tap me if they need something and I will “un-isolate” them.
  16. I remember, like it was yesterday, being intentionally flown into IMC as a student. The disorientation was immediate and has stuck with me for many years. I am convinced that memory and experience prevented me from making bad decisions.
  17. Yes, he was correct. Also correct on the AP does weird things in nav mode. Nav mode kept turning me back to the airport and I was like what the hell is going on. Hell was not the word I originally used.
  18. Vnav is giving me a no barometric altitude source. Not sure if the shop didn’t wire up the aspen correctly or if the 650 needs to take the altitude from my G5 - assuming that the 650 can or should be taking data from both instruments.
  19. @PeteMc Is your GTN set up for vnav or vcalc? Is vsr showing you a decent rate for the next waypoint or the destination?
  20. I thought I’ve seen a thread on this previously, but can’t find it and don’t want to hijack any of the other avionics threads. For the 650/750 folks out there. What screen do you have active during an approach and have you swapped out any of the user fields? I have dual aspens and an iPad mini on my yoke in case I should be doing this differently. I am not yet instrument rated (ground school and written complete) and in preparation for training next month I was following the magenta line for an rnav approach I did not like looking down at the iPad to see the plate for the altitude constraints. Happy to hear some wisdom.
  21. Happy Thanksgiving MS’ers! Tim
  22. Seals would be next if it were me.
  23. To close this out, I ended up buying old school contact cement from 3M that comes in a can with a brush attached to the lid. It worked great, potentially too good but I won’t know unless I try to remove the panel. I don’t see a reason I would ever have to so… thank you all for your responses. Tim
  24. I barely have the coordination for a scooter, I would probably lose my medical on a one wheel
  25. lol. I actually have some of that in our junk drawer. Every time my wife is in the hanger she sees something and says “I’ve been wondering what happened to that“. I then pretend not to hear what she said.
